Today is the new sock starting day. The purple striped socks are finished and I’m wearing them. This is the first time I’ve ever tried to make socks that were more than just knit and purl. These have little holes in them and I’m unreasonably proud of this monumental knitting achievement. I can knit with holes. Yay.
Despite much boasting and explaining of the great difficulty of adding holes to socks, Gordon is seriously underwhelmed.

They look really good. Can you please knit a pair for all of us fans too?
Those are sooo cute. Good job.
Very nice colors and they do look really good. Your getting very good at knitting ^_^
hooray lace socks!
Very cute.
Sometimes guys just do not get how hard creating unique clothing can be!
Lovely socks!
Heehee…those are adorable! They look warm too.

Very cute! And very even (I have to remark that cause I’m unable to make two equally tight stitches)

I have this scene in my head, it ends with … you’re never this excited when I make holes into my socks.
lol that’s great. I was having a similar brain movie moment of this!
Great socks Ilona!
Heh. I knit, not expertly.
Be proud.
I love them! I wish I had time to learn something like that! But between working a full time job, going to school full time for photography and having a 3 year old son that loves to stay up all night playing dinosaurs I don’t think I have much time left for that.
But I will make time when your next books come out! Thanks for keeping me sane with your blog I really enjoy it.
Socks with holes and good looking heels and toes. Definitely an accomplishment.
Guys like owning socks that are hand knit – or at least my husband does. Socks knit for him are plain knit then ribbing as I do toe-up socks that are sized for his feet (knitty.com). Dan has 6-8 pairs now because that is what I knit easily watching a movie or standing in a line up (no thinking or looking involved). Socks knit for me have holes or fake cables and neat patterns.
Guys usually like numbers – try telling Gordon that hand knit socks usually have 20,000 – 30,000 stitches in them.
Great socks! Having intentional holes in knitting is good
OOOH! Pretty colors. If I knew how to knit, I’d pick colors like that.
love the colours…
Pretty socks! So cool! I only crochet, and inexpertly at that. I always wondered- how do you get hand knit socks to stay up?
Actually they just sort of do it by themeselves. Knit can do a little better elastic than crochet does.
Very well done!
People who don’t do crafts can’t grasp how much work goes into creating something. That’s why handmade items cost more than mass-produced stuff – it’s labor intensive.
=A
You made your own socks! That is so cool!
I need to start crocheting again. I find it very soothing, and I could use some soothing lately.
Oh, he should be impressed. Yes, indeedy. I know I am! I cannot knit or crochet. I’m thinking I am lacking in my character somehow. You’d think having 3 kids I would have developed enought patience for it, but alas no.
Little holes? Of course they have little holes, how else would you get your feet in them?
OK, between you and Soapturtle I ALMOST want to take up knitting LOL they look fab! I think Gordon is secretly amazed, he just wants to look cool. Love the colors.
DOOO EEEET
I have no idea how to knit and want to learn. I am in AWE, you made something and something pretty at that!
You managed to match the striping, even through the heel! Awesomeness. That’s the gold star of knitting with patterned sock yarn.
