As you probably recall, I mentioned some news.
We’re still waiting on some chunks of it, but we can share a little bit, so I thought I would.
Following the Deadline Post, this is the list of our deadlines for the next two years.
Please note: These are the deadlines. Not the publications dates.

06/10 – Hexed anthology
10/01 – Edge 3
12/01 – Angel anthology

08/11 – Waiting on this item right here
12/10 – Edge 4
What is the mysterious 08/11 deadline? This is the deadline that is driving me bananas. Gordon is cool as a rock of Gibraltar, but it has me tied in knots. We’re 85% sure that our publisher will offer for it, but in publishing nothing is real until the actual offer is on the table. It could all still fall apart.
So, if you have any good will to spare, please cross your fingers. We should know something more concrete next week.
PS. Yes, it does mean that Ace bought Edge 3 and Edge 4.

Ah, the good old days when you had a year to write a book. Ha! Now they want them in six months (or sooner). Mine are at seven month intervals, but then I do more conventions per year that you folks. Still, that’s pushing it. There’s no down time anymore, just the next book to roll up that hill. However, it beats being unemployed in so many ways.
Fingers are crossed (when not typing) that you have wonderful news to share very soon!

Yes. I am anal. Green is straight writing, red means there is cutting going on, blue is editing and rewriting. Purple means editing and cutting.
Fingers crossed for Super Sekrit 8/11 project. If there is a date penciled in this must be very very close to a done deal HURRAY! And Hurray for more Edge!

Angel anthology will not be Kate. Hexed is probably a Jim/Dali story.

Um. I’m confused by something…
So these would be the dates that the first…er…draft is due in to the editor, right? And then it takes like a year for the first edit/second edit/galley part right? Does this same system apply to the short stories? I mean, if Hexed is due this June, when does the anthology hit the shelves? Is it the same deal?

Anthologies often come out a bit faster. I’ve seen six months before and I’ve seen over a year.
And since Angels and Demons are the growing rage amongst readers (according to the most recent edition of Romantic Times) your contribution to the Angel antho is well timed.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the 8/11 deadline. I think a YA novel would be nice. I know I can say y’all have some younger fans — my middle school aged sister spent all of Saturday curled up in bed with Kate 1-3 (and yes, she finished all three in a day).

just wondering how it works. how much is finished when a publisher agrees to publish your book.
you wrote a lot about getting that first book published. but what about after that first book?
it seems to me that the first book is almost always “done” before you go to a publisher.
if it’s part of a series, is there something more then an idea about the second book?
or does the publisher say; I like it, if you want we make a series out of it?
is it the publisher that asks for a second series, standalone novel?
Can you go to a different publisher if you write a different book or is there some clause in your first contract?
There are probably some other questions that I can’t think of now
