The neighbors, the ones who recently moved here from Atlanta, have finally brought in their pit bull.
My morning went like this:
Pit: New place new place new place. I am tough! I am so tough! I’m the king of the new place.
Luka: Dog! Dog next door! Hey did you know there was a dog next door?
Pit: Aaaaaaaah!!! There are dogs next door!
Luka: Dog, hey dog, can you hear me? I can hear you!
Del: Omg Omg, so exciting :run in a circle:
Pit, freaking out: There are DOGS next door! You don’t want any of this, dogs!
Me: Would all of you just shut up? You two, come inside right now.
An hour later, after feedings:
Pit: New place new place new place. I am tough! I am so tough! I’m the king of the new place.
Luka: Dog! Dog next door! Hey did you know there was a dog next door?
I suspect they will all calm down about each other’s existence in a day or two, but meanwhile the poor pit is barking himself hoarse.
PS. Gordon and I talked about it and we decided it would be best to disclose the breeds of our dogs upfront. While it’s easy to lie and say they are mixed breeds or mutts, neither one of us feels comfortable deceiving prospective landlords. What will be will be. If it takes us longer to find a rental, so be it.

Nice word jump! I love watching your word meter.
I feel your pain about the rental situation. If only the people would realize that everything will be ok, you can take care of any issues with your sweet dogs. To be honest they should include kids in the deposit. I have a 15 almost 16 year old boy who is by far messier and dirtier than both dogs. He leaves a trail of s**t wherever he goes.
I think that’s probably wisest. If there’s any future trouble about the rental, it will be so much easier to resolve. Just went out and bought massive amounts of dog food for the pups, as we are expecting somewhere between 18-24″ of snow today! They won’t eat it all this weekend (I hope) but they sure go through food fast & I may save a couple of trips to the store. Good luck to everyone in the snow target area!
I have dalmatians and there for a while they were labeled as a bad breed to have around kids. So not true, but the popularity of the 101 Dalmatians movies made people who otherwise would not get a high-energy breed…run out and get a puppy for their kids. Unscrupulous people began breeding less than stellar quality dogs and Dals got a bad rap for a while. They are cool dogs, for the right people!
We were traveling to the beach with them one year and stopped at a little motel half-way. The next morning, I got the best complement from an elderly couple who stayed in the room next to us. She said “What beautiful dogs you have. We never even knew they were next to us all night!”
So dogs can be good citizens with the right owners. Hopefully you will find a rental property where the owners realize this.
LMAO love the dog talk!
LOL
That pit sounds like mine. He walks ard outside like he is king of the castle and everyone else better go on somewhere.
After a few weeks of seeing the same dog, cat, ect… in the same area he stops feeling threatened and tones it down to what I call his “watch” status. He’ll just stand there and watch. Doesn’t move, bark, or anything.
I have a dog and my next door neighbours also occasionally dogsit – this post made me LOL
Ah this made me lol. Reminded me of my own dogs (2 labs) when we introduced my bf’s minpin, but alas every tme they get together its the same routine of over excited yapping, barking, sniffing, and play fighting for dominance. Good luck on finding a place!
It’s just Del and Luka? I thought there was a third dog…
Sam is 12 and deeply apathetic to the wippersnappers’ barking. Also he would like them to get off his lawn.
What kind of doggie is Sam? He doesn’t seem to get as much camera time.
Sam (AKA Samantha,AKA sammie) is a boxer
If you search long enough you will find a place no matter how hopeless it will seem at times. My parents have three German Shepherds and one very large mutt and they found a place to rent after a lot of places turned them down due to breed and how many dogs. Good luck finding a place quickly!
LOL,
Love reading about your dogs, their so fun.
I don’t have dogs myself, I have three cats there not as funny when greeting someone animal or person but they are fun when your trying to hypnotize them.
For example our cats (who, are named after characters from the West Wing Josh, CJ and president, only Josh is a girl and the others are boys) can be hypnotized by anything that is either string or something moving. This is how it plays out:
I’m wearing this scarf with bits of black string at the bottom and I’m playing with it as you do when bored, moving it back and forth.
Not realizing that the cats who were just a second ago lying lazy on the sofa are now all gathered round me looking at the strings at the end of my scarf. Until i turn my head and theres CJ with hes eyes wide following the movement of my scarf. Now at this point i do realize I’ve been ganged up by the cats, with CJ and Josh sitting either side of me and Presy on the floor. all of which are in ready to pounce mode and moving their heads back and forth following the scarfs movement but none of them are moving to catch it.
Now I realize I’m in trouble because all of them look like their about to go for my scarf and when they do their all are going to end up in my lap (there not nice kitties who think about their claws) so I’m going to end up being scratched.
With this in mind, I get up and they all rise themselves up and for the next five minutes their following me and my scarf, all hypnotized until they see a spider scuttle across my hallway and then their all jumping towards that, transfixed on new prey (which by the way they spend the next half hour trying to catch). so cats and hypnotism is quite fun as long as you don’t get scratched.
