Life comes with obstacles. It’s in the User Manual. And while you’re trying to negotiate said obstacles, the Universe amuses itself by tossing a barrage of potatoes at you. Have you ever been hit with a potato? Hurts like a sonovabitch.
The first barrage of potatoes came when we invited the realtor in. She informed us that to sell the house, we would have to move out. That’s fine. We found the house and we’re moving.
The second barrage was the movers – nobody wanted to ship the dogs because Luka’s crate is too large to fit through the door of most planes and Sam with his bully nose and elderly age is considered high risk. That’s fine – we found an alternative method. The dogs are being shipped by car.
The third wave were the deadlines. That’s fine too, our publisher is very understanding and we got a little extra time.
This morning Kid 2 woke up with a sore throat and fever, because she can’t miss anymore school; the dogs spontaneously developed ear infections, because they can’t travel without a certificate of health; and, because we’re draining the above ground pool to be demolished, it is raining like someone broke the main pipe to the heavens.
::drums fingertips on the keyboard::
Vet appointment made. Gordon stopped by pharmacy on his way from the gym. In a couple of minutes I will find my rain slicker, go out there, and repeat the vacuum trick with the hose and stretch the hose out so the pool will drain into the street. Because draining it into the yard would just be disastrous with all the water out there.
Must not get sick.
::chants like Osaka from Azumanga Daioh:: Get it together. Get it together. Get it together…

I just keep sending positive thoughts your way!! You can do it!
wahhhh! *hugs*
3girlmom’s kids are very good with “stop the rain” dance. I’m sending you more positive vibe. xx
LOL!! Yes they are!! I shall have the hooligans howl at the moon for you too!!
Ack!! Time to go to the mattresses with the potato throwers!
Good luck, through the crunch time! When you do crunch, you really do it!
You doing a great job. Breaking the problem into pieces and managing the pieces.
The dog and Kid #2 being sick is timed perfectly. They are just getting it out of the way so you would not have to deal with it at the new house when you are in the mist of unpacking.
Writing – you can get many ideas from many place. Rain pool swamp water the god s /heaven lots of creative idea there.
It’s all good. Sending a warm hug.
Oh for gods’ sake! *sigh* It’s these moments when I laugh, because if I didn’t laugh I might kill someone. *hugs* If there’s anything I can help with let me know. Seriously.
I’m going to say it, I’m going to say it….”when it rains, it pours”! I am so sorry, for both the life obstacles AND the bad use of the idiom! This will all go away soon.
Same here – if there’s any way I can help, please email me separately. I’m happy to do what I can. In the meantime, ugh – I feel your pain and am sending you wishes for an Ilona or Gordon clone to help with all the fallout.
ps. I live in the same state as you (curently!) and ah, gods, the rain!
Duh – meant to say (currently!). Sigh.
WoW! Good luck!!!
At least the rain stopped here…i know when I got up this morning and it was a thunderstorm outside I almost didn’t get up….the sky cleared up…bu now it looks clouding again…*sigh*
Have you ever been hit with a potato? Hurts like a sonovabitch.
I’ll bet. Good luck with everything, Ilona. Sending positive vibes.
I’m not having a good Monday, either. Wishing y’all good health and sending good thoughts!
My mom used to tell me: “It never rains. But it pours.”
Hopefully you are just building some kharma and after your move you’ll be showered with as many blessings as you have problems now. And hopefully they won’t be painful, potato sized blessings as sometimes happens.
Wait a minute–YOU GOT A LIFE MANUAL????????
I want one.
I think all this falls under the section labeled, Murphy’s law (aka potato grenades)
Sympathies.
oh damn…. man, life sure knows how to throw stones in your way.
*sends positive vibe* I hope the rain stops. I hope kid and dogs are well soon. and I hope you don’t get sick.
Wow, remind me to never move again. Wishing you all good luck.
I’m so sorry that you and family are having such a stressful time. Saying a prayer that things start falling smoothly into place very soon.
I am seriously convinced that moving is our sneek peek into hell. Yes, hell is just a continuous move, one right after another. No flames, or demons. JUST moving. I guess there could be flames during one of the moves. It wouldn’t surprise me.
nothing to say but hugs (((((((((((((((((((((Ilona))))))))))))))))))))) lots of hugs…
Like a another poster said…your just getting all the crap out of the way now.
It will get better. ((((Hugs))) and get well wishes to kid #2.
lol, no offense meant, but that was quite funny. don’t worry, it’ll look better tomorrow. lol
You know what they say…. “When life throws potaoes at you make french fries !” Well something like that… LOL Moving is hell, even more so with animals, we had to drive our small zoo from CA to TX, that was fun, finding hotels that would let us all in to sleep, right. Well in the end only one would, so we sneaked.Shhhh…
I’ve always heard bad things come in threes. Yours appear to be coming in multiples of three. And that just sucks when all you’re trying to do is provide a better place to live for your family.
For what its worth, count my good wishes in with all the others.
oh my gosh. so i have to admit im laughing my head off right now. i scared the dog. oooooooo kid2 – suck it up!! get out of the house! mom needs to work! just kidding (can i call them thing 1 and thing 2?) i’m so sorry shes sick. and the dogs 2???
oh and ya gotta love those realtors! i tried that t=with a few clients…they nearly killed me and i ended up having to help with the move. i stopped telling sellers that, it was so not worth the irritation for them and me.
good luck
Glad you were able to get it together. Azumanga Daioh is awesome.
