Signing and Interviews

signing-and-interviews

Several people emailed questions:

i’m in NZ n u guys don’t do signing here, do u?  any plans in Australia?

I was wondering if y’all ever come out around Florence, AL for book signings

Right now we have a signing scheduled On May 25th in Portland and We will be at the ArmadilloCon in Texas later this year.  That’s it, guys.  No plans for overseas travel at this time. Mostly due to cost of overseas travel.

But! The Kate series is being released in UK and Commonwealth later in the year, and if it does well, we will make it a point to get out there and meet UK fans.  (Also my father keeps pointing out that it’s only a very short plane ride from London to Russia…)  I’d love to go to Australia as well.  I’m just worried that we’ll land, Lord Panda will take a look around, and say, “G’day.  I’m not leaving.  I think we should buy a house.” I wouldn’t put it past him.

Question about signing at Powell’s:

Are you going to be reading? Doing Q&A? Or is it mainly focused on signing?

Well, it will be Devon, Lili, and Gordon and I, so I am not sure how the official part of the signing will go.  :)   Most likely some reading, some Q&A, and the signing.  That said, after the “official” part is over, Gordon and I will do what we usually do at conventions: we’ll arm ourselves with coffee and park ourselves in an easily accessible area.  You are welcome to come and chat and ask questions, and hang out or get things signed.  You are not bugging us, we’re there specifically to hang out with you.  So if there is something you’ve been dying to ask, we’ll be available until Powell’s kicks us out or until all questions are answered.

We don’t get out much, but when we’re invited somewhere in a professional capacity, we make the best of it.   :)

Also, we’re getting requests for the interviews and blog appearances.   I’m afraid we might be a touch overexposed, so we’ll probably limit the number of interviews we give to no more than 5 in the week of May 25th.  (Trust me, there is nothing more boring than getting the same author on every single blog on your roll.)

So if you want to book an appearance on your site, please let us know in advance.  You can either email us directly or email ACE’s publicist Rosanne Romanello.  Her information is in the footer.  If you email the publicist, you are much more likely to get a yes, because Rosanne does not take no for an answer and I have never been able to weasel out of anything she schedules.  If you do email us directly, I have to warn you that we may say no, simply because the number of requests is getting a touch overwhelming.

Wow. You freaked me out for a second. I was pretty sure that it was Austin, but reading that made me question it. I wasn’t looking forward to the lengthy drive to Amarillo. :)

However… Aramadillo != Amarillo. It’s at the Renaissance Hotel Austin. The wikipedia page confirms Austin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArmadilloCon

…and I can’t spell. Aramadillo should be Armadillo. When being clever, it’s best to spell correctly.

Ooo, ooo ooo! Coming to Uk, possibly? Brilliant! I have all your books and am
(im)patiently awaiting my pre-ordered Magic Bleeds! Um, if you haven’t yet released your books to the UK, how come I have them? Will the official UK ones have different covers?

I’m also UK and I’ve bought all the Kate books of the shelf in bookstores – Waterstones to be precise – but I did have to order Rose. Slightly surprised (although yay for an official UK release!) I hadn’t realised that Ace didn’t have general distribution here.

Just the idea of you guys possibly coming to the UK in the future has me giddy! lol I read the first Kate book a little before Burns came out, so I’ve got all imported copies right now. They’re a bit worn though, so will probably end up with UK ones too sooner or later. When I first saw listings on Amazon.co.uk for them, I was really excited too. Easier to get UK books than imports! Except, it wouldn’t stop me getting imports if they’re out sooner, so maybe not so helpful…but it will make it easier for me to convince my friends to buy them!

Well, I wouldn’t mind if you hopped off the plane to Australia and decided to stay. It’s a beautiful country (much better than New Zealand) with free health care and excellent schools. Am I tempting you yet?

NO, NO NO! We just got you lured out to the Pacific Northwest – you must stay for AT LEAST three books. You must NOT go to Australia or New Zeland if they are even REMOTELY enticing! :fends off Aussie and Kiwi fans:

O.K…. I admit that I like Australia, though I was only there once in the early 80′s (I don’t think re-fueling in Auckland counts as going to NZ). It was very cool, so please don’t go there… I think your Down Under fans should book a tour to Portland. Can you have your publicist work area authors to arrange this? :-D

As a resident of the UK but a citizen of NZ, I can assure you both places are awesome and you should definitely come over when you get the chance. I didn’t realise that the Kate Daniels series hadn’t been officially released over here, either, but I hope an official release gets you enough exposure to make the trip!

I read this on Amazon UK:

“Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym of the husband-and-wife writing team of Ilona and Gordon Andrews. Ilona was born in Russia and went to America on a scholarship. She dropped out of her biochemistry degree course when she fell in love with a sailor fresh out of the US Navy and married him, despite opposition from both families. They now live in the Smoky Mountains with their daughters and write bestselling books together”

Awwwww. The I remembered this post:

    http://www.ilona-andrews.com/2010/02/26/on-family-quotable-nature-of/

…and it made me giggle! :)

Would be absolutely stoked if you ever did make it to Australia. Your books are not generally available here in Perth, but a very few bookstores order them in. Through talking to the owner of a local bookstore, now one more does too. :-)

I find it interesting that the book cover portrait of Kate changes for the UK market. Is this a cunning ploy to sell more books by showing what the publishing company thinks would appeal to us Brits? Although I am sure that some people will be attracted by a good-looking woman on the front of a book (especially one holding a sword) it’s what is in the book that counts. I found Kate through a recommendation of a friend who knew I liked Jim Butcher’s books and suggested I try yours. As I now have all your books and am currently chewing my fingernails waiting for my pre-order of Magic Bleeds to arrive, it was a pretty good recommendation :)

Incidentally, if you ever need a new cover artist then my current favourite is Dan Dos Santos – he seems to specialize in sword-wielding ladies!

Kharris Jann has the perfect idea bout Dan Dos Santos creating your book covers! Talk your Publisher or whomever is in charge of that aspect into him doing your covers in the future. You cannot go wrong!

Please visit the southern US on a signing tour, please!
