Back to working on Kate 5.
Here is a small snippet.
“Anything for me?”
Derek’s lips curved into a slight smile. “Ascanio got himself arrested again.”
I heaved a sigh. Ascanio was quickly turning into the bane of my existence. Fifteen years old and a hundred pounds of batshit crazy in a five pound bag, he seemed bound and determined to earn himself some hard labor.
“What did he do now?”
“He was caught having group sex on the morgue steps.”
I stopped and looked at him. “Define group.”
“Two women.”
It could be worse.
“For a fifteen year old kid he’s doing well for himself,” Derek said, his face completely deadpan.
“Don’t even go there.”
Derek chuckled to himself.

Hilarious! I love snippets!
LOL. Thank you, Ilona. Now I wonder who Ascanio is. Sounds like Kate is collecting misfit teenagers.
i not only love snippets i love these characters.
Oooh! Love it. =) Thanks, Ilona!
Ilona, thanks so much!
Thank you Ilona!! Much love!!!
Awesome! Thanks *g*
A five pound fifteen year old? Pixie? No…..were-rabbit!?! LOL!
Fantastic snippet!! Thanks for the sneak peek!
Thanks for the snippet, it was superb.
Eek!!! Thank you!
“a hundred pounds of batshit crazy in a five pound bag…” Love that sentence!
But I can’t help but think I’ve heard that as a quote off Leverage.
Anywho, much loves.
Well you know, all good writers steal, hee. Actually this is apparently an old saying. I googled it before using it and there are examples of it that predate leverage, so we’re okay.
A different kind of blivet, wouldn’t you say?
I may not use it now – people seem slightly confused by it. Oh well.
I’m hoping you’ll leave it in. Obscure references of varying complexity are like literary Easter eggs — they’re harmless and the story loses nothing if the reader doesn’t “get” them, and they enrich the reading experience if the reader does.
Thanks for the Snippet! Loved it!
“Ascanio” how do you pronounce that name?
my guess is “eh-skah-nee-oh”
THANKS FOR THE SNIPPET ILONA!!!!!!!!!
talking about Kate 5 is there a release date for it yet??
xoxo Nas.
Thanks for the snippety treat. I re-read On the Edge today (yes, it was a lazy day…) and love it even more now. I giggled from time to time, much to the amusement of my husband. I read him a few lines, and now he understands my obsession.
Thanks for the snippet!
My brain went somewhere nasty for a second before I read the definition of ‘group sex on the morgue steps’. Then I wondered about the two women. If they’re breathing women then all power to the kid. Seriously. He must be a dude!
Awesome, but I’ve got to ask: “in a five pound package” – is that literal? Like, he REALLY only weighs five pounds or is that, um, a metaphor or something?
Thanks for the snippet! ^_^
Haha, thank you so much for the snippet. It made me smile
I miss Kate! I cannot wait till the new book comes out.
aahh.. we have been loved!
Thanks Ilona!!
I just looked at the sidebar for the upcoming signing then indulged in checking airfare prices. Alas, a trip from California (near San Francisco) to PDX is out of my budget at this point but please do do do count this in the bin of notes to tell your publicist “See, tours! There’s people interested in a book tour!”. And might I say that a stop could be combined with a road trip to LA over the summer sometime.
Lovely snippet.
I love your snippets!
They always make me excitied for anything you have coming up!
Definitely curious now!
)
LOL! Thanks for the snippet!
Love snippets!
Can’t wait to find out who Ascanio is…….assuming he is in book 4 otherwise argh! the wait will be unbearable!!
Awesome. Thanks very much Ilona. Derek sounds slightly jealous
LOL! Love the snippet! Thank you Ilona. Can’t wait to learn more about Ascanio. I love Derek. xx
Group sex.. haha. Thank you, that fit of laughter was much needed.
Now I’m even MORE excited for Magic Bleeds!
I can’t believe that’s an old saying! BAHAHAHAHAHA I’d never heard it before.
Sigh. My inner snippet whore is happy:)
yay snippety goodness!!!
I wonder if Ascanio is one of…. crap no spoilers *grins*
Thanks Ilona
Love the snippet
Evil, Nurslings. Evil.
Haha, group sex? Thanks, Ilona. Love the snippet!
Wow, wasn’t expecting that! Thank you Ilona!!
“don’t even go there” as in Curran isn’t doeing so well in that category?
can’t wait….
Thanks for the snippet!! And the home-spun saying – love it!
Squeee!!!
I was just having a pity moment thinking about how much longer I had to wait for Magic Bleeds then this pops up.
Thank you. *happy sigh*
Ahhhh! Thank you, I just love Derek! I hope he has a big part in the new book!
YEY! Snippet! You’ve just made my day.
I love Kate and Derek conversations and this no exception. Thank you!
Thanks for the snippet! I am so excited for Magic Bleeds (just over a month now, yay!), but I’m sure the second I finish it I will be lusting for more info on Book 5!
Oh, also I’m not sure if you deal with this or if it’s your publisher, but I was wondering if your books were going to be released in the new iBook store for iPad? I have decided it’s a superb way to read ebooks and quite prefer it to kindle.
I’m debating a kindle, nook, or (I guess now that I heard you can do it) iPad. Does each one have it’s own ebook format or can you read any ebook on them? Sorry to bother you, I’m curious and I am slightly techno-challenged!
With the kindle you can only download books from amazon.com. With the iPad you can download kindle for iPad, and you can use the Apple iBook store. With a nook, I’m not quite as positive, but I think you can download from almost anywhere except amazon.com and the Apple iBook store. Barnes & Noble have ebooks and you can read them on a nook, I also think the Adobe ePub books can be read on nook. Also, (the reason I am able to answer this so quickly) I was rushing back to her blog to say that the books are available at the iBook store, but nothing comes up if you search Ilona Andrews, only if you search for the titles of each book, but they are there and that’s what counts!
Kindle reads books in other formats and you can buy books from other e-booksellers. Just look for multi-format support for your downloaded file.
If you have a Kindle, and want to go iPad, you can read your Kindle books on an iPad. (I so wish I didn’t know that – I truly don’t need a $500 toy – but ooooooh, I wants it! Is pretty…)
Yay, thank you very much for the snippet! They are surely my favorite kind of torture!
I’ve grown up with the “blivet” saying, nice to know I’m not the only one who knows it. However, I’ve never run across it used in any novels. Makes me smile, my dad would always define it as; “it’s like twenty pounds of *ahem* poo in a five pound bag.” He especially would love to describe my gramma’s (she was a grade A horder) home as a blivet! I hope the saying stays in!
“Batshit Crazy” is one of my favorite ways to describe someone. A lot of someones… Thanks for the sneek peek!!
:::sigh::: I <3 snippets.
Awesome as usual. I love Derek…
Love the snippet! Thanks!
Loved the snippet…my family used a version of that saying all the time…except they made it age appropriete by substituting flour instead of S***…
LOL! “It could be worse.” Priceless!
Ahh, I can face the rest of the day with a smile, thanks for the snippet!
Thank you for the snippet! Now I am consumed with cuiousity – not only about Kate 5, but its format. I am guessing it alternates between Kate’s and Curran’s POV? How exciting!
