Updated to add… contest is over, effective 8 am EST Saturday 7.10.10~winner names to be posted soon.
So I’ve been loitering at this blog for um…well, almost ever since I discovered the books.
I’ve got a mad, mad love for the Kate books-a serious and true mad love, almost on par with my mad love for all things Stardoc and SL Viehl, and anybody who knows me will tell that is almost slavish devotion.
Needless to say, I’ve been lurking around here off and on for quite a while. Back in April, I was nagging her about Magic Bleeds and she mentioned doing a guest blog here when my next book came out…which is right about…now.
So here I am. Hi. I’m Shiloh Walker and I’m a writer…I write romance. Now, for those who aren’t into romance, don’t flinch…I’m not going to pelt you with rose petals, white picket fences (that would be dangerous) or wedding dresses.
Instead, I’m just going to do a quick run down of some reasons why some of you might find my latest book, The Missing interesting…
Ten Reasons Why You Might Like It:
Or maybe at least you wouldn’t outright hate it…1) There are absolutely NO ‘fated mates’ in this book. Nothing against fated mates, because they can work really, really well when the writer does them well. But they can also work…well, not so well. But you’re safe here. Not a fated mate in sight.
2) She’s psychic…and no, I don’t mean, ‘call me, I’m your psychic friend’ sort of psychic, and she doesn’t see dead people. Well, sometimes, but only when she’s supposed to. And really, it does make sense in the story. My stories tend to make a lot more sense than I do, which is screwier than all get out-not that I don’t make sense, but that I can actually make anything make sense. But I do, I swear.
3) There’s none of those overly wind-tossed locks and torrid clenches on the cover. Is pretty, cool and no clenches involved—just a woman, kind of ghosty-looking staring off into the woods. Not bad, right?
4) He’s a geek-a sexy geek, but a geek nonetheless. And there’s something very appealing about a sexy geek—especially one who can also kick a little butt when he needs to.
5) She can kick ass. Yes, I do enjoy a woman who can kick tail. What can I say?
6) He likes it when she kicks ass. And that’s totally hot—the guy doesn’t get intimidated by the woman’s ability to take care of herself.
7) He can also kick ass. Go, teamwork, right?
8) She doesn’t need a white knight to save her. Which is good, because if you’ve read the blurb, you’ll see that his armor, if he had any, would be rather tarnished, because he’s made some mistakes in his life.
9) They actually kinda save each other…which, in the end, is how I’d prefer things. If he saves me, I want to save him, too.
10) Buying it will helps prevent one more author meltdown. Okay, okay, I won’t have a meltdown, but it came out on my birthday and hey, it would be an awesome birthday present, right?
So there you go…ten reasons to buy The Missing. Or at least maybe check it out. Are you intrigued? Yes, so, maybe so?
To further entice you, I’m giving away a $15 GC to Amazon to one commenter…all you have to do is tell me one reason (doesn’t have to be one of mine) why you might or might not try the book.
And don’t worry, whether you’re interested or not won’t affect your chances of winning-us writers are great fans of all things random. At least I am-randomizer.org is a friend.
Thanks to Ilona & Gordon for having me, to you all for tolerating my rambles, and if you are a little bit interested, you can check out more information on The Missing at my site… http://shilohwalker.com/website

My latest…
The Missing
LOVE LOST
As a teenager, Taige Branch was able to do things with her psychic gift that others couldn’t understand—except for Cullen Morgan, the boy her stole her heart. He did his best to accept her abilities, until his mother was brutally murdered—and he couldn’t forgive Taige for not preventing her death.
PASSION FOUND
Now a widowed father, Cullen Morgan has never forgotten Taige. But what brings her back into his life is another tragic event. His beloved little girl has been kidnapped, and Taige is his only hope of finding her.
A LOVE THAT NEVER DIED
Working together against the clock, Cullen and Taige can’t help but wonder whether—if they find his daughter in time—it isn’t too late for the overpowering love that still burns between them…

I’m a big fan of geeky-yet-ass-kicking heroes, so this book looks like a perfect fit! Definitely excited to hop right into this promising read
Thanks for the awesome post and happy birthday!
I picked up one of your books a while ago “Through the Veil.” It wasn’t my favorite. I absolutely loved the premise, but at points it seemed like the romance got in the way of the story.
However, I’ve had several people rave about your books and tell me to give them another try. I figured if these people like these books and they like all these other books I’ve been reading, maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for the book when I read it.
I’ve been trying to decide where to start again. Perhaps it will be here.
Well, Through The Veil is a romance-it’s paranormal romance, so the paranormal elements have to be as much a part of the story as the romance itself, but without the romance aspects…eh, it’s not really a romance, which means my reasons for telling the story aren’t there-as least not with romance.
Romances don’t work for everybody and there are definitely some romances that work for people who prefer urban more than romance (Jeaniene Frost comes to mind, as does Nalini Singh). But some people just aren’t into romance, and that’s totally fine.
I’m sorry it didn’t work well for you, but if you decide to try something else out, I hope you like it!
I am so trying this book because WLP told me too, AND because you made Tiffany (Kindlevixen) cry!
Hook me up, I gots to read it now!
LMAO… *G* I want a blog button that reads… I MADE KINDLEVIXEN CRY. I’m so proud of myself. I also gave WLP a nightmare. SCORE!
I am never going to live this down *headshake*
I’ll try it because its written by you!
You had me at Reason No. 1 — No fated Mates. Almost like “You had me at hello.” I agree with you…it can work, but it’s so clichéd now that it gets REALLY old reading about it. So…..PICK ME! =)
I really like that they save each other. Relationships don’t work if they are really uneven.
I will be off to Amazon after this comment to add your book to my wish-list. I thoroughly enjoyed your 10 reasons I may like it and they all sounded like a book I would love. Especially that they both kick ass AND they are not fated for each other.
Ok, I might (ok, let’s face it – I will) try the missing because we share a love of all things Kate. It’s probably a silly reason, but there you go. It was great reading your guest blog here! It sounds really good, actually, and I love it when both the guy AND the girl can both kick ass, you know, much like Kate and Curran. Happy Late Birthday!
OK, the ten reasons got me — Sexy Geeky Kick-ass male — admires/appreciates sexy kick-ass female……..ummmm How can I resist?
I like the blurb and the fact that there is a noticeable absence of the “heaving bosom syndrome” (otherwise known as #3 “There’s none of those overly wind-tossed locks and torrid clenches on the cover.”). Also, I like that the heroine kicks ass and so does he! Plus she doesn’t need a white knight. I am a fan of not needing those.
I’d try it because the cover looks awesome!
I’m not usually one to buy romance novels…but I enjoyed your post. I really like the cover- it makes me think that it won’t be one of those sugary gag inducing romance novels that I avoid at all costs. That you are a fan of this blog is also a big plus for me since it means you have good taste. Happy Birthday!!!
Happy belated birthday!
I hope your book sells well.
I’m checking the book for three reasons. And here they are in no particular order…
Your top ten are awesome.
My sister’s dog’s name is Shiloh
And it is extremely hard to keep my other sister in books.
Her name is Taige. TAIGE. It’s not another “Jane” or “Isobel” or “Morgan” or “Abby” – it’s unique and lets her really stand out, even when that’s all you know about the book.
Btw – is this a stand alone or a series?
Calliope, right now, it’s a standalone. There’s another book featuring secondary characters in the tube… just not ready yet. As in… um… I gotta get to it. O.o
This looks good
I’ve decided I’m a romantic at heart, but it’s so easy to get sick of the cookie cutter romances. That’s why I love Ilona Andrews’ books, and why I’m excited to try the missing.
The Missing is going on my “need to get this book” list. Your top ten reasons sold me on wanting to read it, so I’m really glad you wrote the blog.
He’s a geek and he can kick ass, he makes mistakes but tries to fix them and more importantly he’s stubborn about showing the women he loves just how much he cares. Yep, totally checking out this book, it looks awesome.
xoxo Nas D
Well, I have 2 reasons why I want to read this book. One, I love romance novels. And two, your 10 reasons are damn convincing.
Looks good, I will definitely check it out!
I’m interested in The Missing because we clearly have the same taste in books. I also adore the Kate Daniels books – and anything written by SL Viehl in all her many psuedonyms.
Suelder… clearly you are a woman of excellent taste. I found SL Viehl in the back of a Catherine Coulter book and I’ve been stalking her ever since. I’m dying, and I mean DYING to read Dream Called Time.
I’ve been reading the excerpts and wanting this book because it sounds really intense and angsty, but if the hero is a geek, that just makes me want it even more.
Shiloh, your 10 reasons are all good. I have always wanted to read one of your books and it looks like this is a good one to start with. And you have a gorgeous cover for The Missing – it’s very evocative without being too spooky. And of course, happy belated birthday! Hope you had a great celebration!
I read a fair bit of romance and paranormal romance. I work at a library and do lots of recommending for purchase and for patrons. I would check this book out because the premise sounds interesting and the cover is enticing. Now, if it had a bit of rippling pecs and heaving cleavage . . .
Thanks again to everybody that came by… you all are wonderful. Thanks so much!
And another thank you to Ilona and Gordon for having me. (even though I’m dying of envy at home awesome your blog looks. damn.)
Lol, I haven’t read any of your books yet… but I’m going to have to! Love your sense of humor
Especially in the nonsense/perfect sense reason
I don’t think I need ten reasons…I like the blurb. Is that wrong? =) This will definitely go on my ‘to read’ list. Sadly the thing is over 260 titles at the moment. And they are listed alphabetically so I choose them sort of whenever the mood strikes for something or another. So, when I want psychic, geeky ass kicking yours will be right there!
I highly recommend this book. It was the first one I read (I got it early) and from then to now, I have been reading everything she has written that I could get my hands on. The missing is very different when compared to what is out there in romance. So, so good.
Pick it up and you will not be sorry!!!
Thank you, rmarsha!
Love books where the heroine kicks @$$
And when the characters are not perfect – they all have their flaws, but not in an annoying whiny way….
So yeah, looks interesting!
Hmmm… your book does sound interesting. I rthink I will give it a try. I love reading guest author posts. It’s a great way to find new books to check out.
the geeky angle would do it for me – will see if my library has it and check it out
That cover is great! My biggest problem with romance novels is the covers. I’m embarassed to bring them to the counter at Barnes and Noble! I know the guy behind the counter is thinking, “Ah another woman buying her female porn” Gosh Darnit, I will be purchasing this one proudly! HUZZAH!
I’ll try it because you made it sound interesting!
I’ll buy it just because you’re a friend of Ilona & Gordon. Also…because it sound awesome!
Those are an exceptional 10 reasons to check out The Missing, Shiloh– the whole premise of the book sounds fantastic. The summary is great. I’ve also really enjoyed your other work, so I look forward to checking this one out too! =)
Thank you…
I’d try it because i’m all for romance and psychic people. They’re fun.
I’m willing to try it because of reason number 1 and because this post was just so damned polite.
ummm…we have the same last name and i need a new book to read. plus i’m a fan of #4.
Happy Birthday!
Your book sounds really interesting, I will definitely put it on my wish list. I guess one reason would be that I like the tone of your post, it entertained me. So, I think your book will as well. I also like your #4 that the guy is a geek
Can I give 2 reasons?!
1) I’ve heard people mention your books and been meaning to try them
2) I love a sexy geek!!
well.. you made it sounds interesting.
As a bookaholic, how can I miss out on this right?
One reason? All ten of yours.
I’ve actually had a couple other of your books on my wish list for a little while (too many books, never enough money) but I’ve got to say this post has really made me want this new one, so I’ll proably pick the others up while I’m at it. I like the premise, and I can resist sexy-kick-ass-geeks. Just can’t be done.
I like the cover
I cannot resist geek. I went to order your book on Amazon UK and they have one version that was published in 2008 (?)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Missing-Shiloh-Walker/dp/0425224384/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1278672288&sr=1-1
Is it the same one as Sep 2010?
Yep, it’s the same book-I’m promoting the book’s mass market release which was Tuesday. It was originally released in trade paperback two years ago.
I am definitely trying the book – for two reasons:
first: I love ass-kicking heroines
… part of the reason I love the kate-series
second: the cover is kind of cool! which is unusual for a romance
your other reasons are quite good too …
I like that they aren’t fated and that you didn’t write a whimpy helpess heroine.
Your ten reasons actually turned me off a bit because you’re so humble and self-effacing – I started to wonder if you really thought your book was worth reading…
I don’t say that meaning to be harsh. I say it meaning to encourage you to claim your awesomeness.
That said, the blurb about the book really intrigues me – it immediately brought to mind Holly Lisle’s Midnight Rain. I don’t usually seek out romance or even paranormal romance, but I loved that book so I might give The Missing a try.
Well, unfortunately… I’m not one to do that. I don’t see myself as awesome. I’m just me. I can’t pretend to be something I’m not and I’m just me…a smart-alec, not particularly humble about anything, but when it comes to my writing, yep-self-effacing probably describes me very well. Whether or not I’m good at it, I’ll leave that decision up to my editors and my readers.
I’m still stuck in the mindset that ‘this sucks’ and honestly, I’m fine with that because I’ve seen what happens when writers really do start believing they ARE awesome-they seem stop caring so much about improving and their stories start to suffer.
I love Holly Lisle-her book I SEE YOU is one of my faves-had some awesome ‘freak me out’ moments.
Oooh, I love that one too!
I’ll have to pick up The Missing and read it so I can go on to boost your writer-ego honestly.
I think there’s a fine balance between “Well, I think it’s horrible but some people seem to like it,” “This might not be perfect, but I think it’s pretty awesome.” and “I am teh best, bow down before my unedited drivel.”
Or maybe not such a fine balance… It’s hard to tell from this side of the fence. I figure self-respect tempered with a desire to keep improving is probably a good way to go, though.
Best of luck with this and all your books!
Reason #7 – I love a good team ass kicking.
Humm i may look for this on my next book buying trip. I like the premise but i have a question is there any SNARK? I have a positive weakness for snark.
wellllll… Taige is something of a smart-ass at times. Most of my heroines have that tendency, but I don’t know if you could say there’s any tried and true snark in it.
I would love a chance to read your book. So far, I haven’t read anything of yours. I have you on my TBR list, but I swear that list grows faster than I can read.. lol
Ok, this is gonna sound shallow but the whole: “He’s a geek-a sexy geek, but a geek nonetheless” has tempted me to read the book!
