I have an interesting question for you this morning, in particular for those of you who write a lot or do a lot of data entry. I noticed that over the years I progressively began to typo more and more. These typoes aren’t the typical “I hit the wrong letter” kind, but the ones where an entirely new word pops into the sentence. For example, I will typically type eyes instead of eye. Or I managed a glanced over my shoulder. These guys are very annoying because they don’t show up on the regular spell check.
I have a theory that after typing a million or so of words, I developed some sort of muscle memory that tells me that eye– combination should end in s, because ninety nine percent of the time, eyes are plural in the narrative and my fingers have typed that word probably a thousand times. Just as well, glanced occurs more frequently in my writing than glance.
Is this something you’ve experienced, or am I alone nuts in this?
