Well, I have wallowed in my despair for a whole day. I think that’s probably plenty. This isn’t something I can control. I don’t like it. It’s upsetting to see something you were invested in wither, but I have no choice, except to deal with it. Food for thought for the future. I’ll make sure I don’t allow myself to be in this situation again. Publishing in general has been doing its best to kick my ass this month. I am about fed up.
It is Saturday morning and we are flooded. The side of a house is a small pond, the pool is overflowing – that means it picked up at least ten inches of rain water overnight – and all plans are cancelled. Today will be a day of email responding, movie watching, computer games, reading, and possibly knitting something.
The Last Witchhunter was good. Really good. I very much enjoyed it. From reviews, I thought it would be Nicolas Cage level of cheesiness, but it is a well-made, really well-written urban fantasy with a high production budget. Everyone was good in it, the action was great, the special effects were good, and it was exceedingly well plotted. I remember thinking at some point that the plot structure was just so classic: good guys win a small victory -> things become worse, they win another victory -> things are even worse, they heroically win another victory -> the world is ending.
If you are still playing SWTOR, the expansion that just came out brings some very radical changes to crafting. I thought Gordon would explode. In case you are wondering, Gordon is a Star Wars magnate. He has an ungodly amount of money, which he earns by crafting things for Galactic Market and spends on buying me cute outfits and mounts. I thought the computer was in mortal danger when he realized the companions no longer required modded gear to function. Kid 2 walked up to me at some point and said, “I think Dad is really upset.”
But the new story is so cinematic. And the new HK is a riot. Seriously. At some point some dude threatened to throw me out of an airlock, and he pulled out his gun and said, “Theory: It will be a challenge to throw anything without your arms.” I died. I sat there and laughed for full three minutes.
Well, that’s it for now.
