Oy.

Goodreads Awards came out.  We didn’t win in any categories. Bummer.

Fate’s Edge preliminary national list placements came out.  It is practically in the same exact spots as Bayou Moon was, which is a freaky coincidence, but could also indicate that sales didn’t grow.  It’s not about the money – the books always earn out.  It’s about lack of audience growth.

::scratches head:: This seems to be my lot in life – books come out, get stellar reviews, and sell okay.  Other people’s books come out, get trashed, sell fifty million copies.  We must be doing something wrong.  Well, it ends in one book anyway.  Sorry but my enthusiasm switch is stuck on OFF setting.  I will still work on it and make it the best I can, because my personal pride won’t let me sign off on crap, but I so don’t want to.

Okay, enough whining.

GUNMETAL MAGIC was turned in for the first editorial pass. Because it was written over the period in our lives when we had many complications, it is likely to suck.  If any of the beta readers would like to take a stab at helping us make it better, we would very much appreciate it.  Please email me.  We’d like to keep it to first five people or so.  There was also a contest winner beta, so if you’re still up for it, it would be awesome.

In addition, we would like to do a small beta spot contest, because we haven’t done one in a while.  To enter, comment below with word BETA somewhere in the comment.  A a beta reader, you are responsible for the letting us know how you felt about specific parts of the book.  You are not responsible for correcting punctuation and grammar, unless there is something glaring you would like to point out.

The contest ends tomorrow at 10:00 pm EST.  Winner will be chosen randomly.

I am going to take today off. I need it.

Beta. That said, go on and take the day off. And keep up the spirit that you only want to put out top quality work.

BETA. I recently did a beta reading in my literature class for 13 weeks. the first few weeks were horrible, but towards the end, i found myself enjoying it and picking little things that needed to be corrected. I think the class got annoyed at me for being so picky. Rest easy, you need it.

Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll start to feel beta soon.

Get it? See, I replaced the word “better” with “beta”!

….Ya, my husband thinks I’m a dork too. But I would love to make things better and help you have a better product!

hmm. Maybe the difference is in the target audience and genre? Your books focus more on the action scenes. Which i think is great but sex sells. Books with trashy reviews have lots of mindless and crazy sex scenes which i hate but it sells. So… you get what i mean. Personal opinion.

I would love to be a BETA reader for you…

To broaden your horizons, I suggest writing in a different genre… maybe flush out a full sci fi book? Or add incentive for a reader to buy a copy of your book… say a url to download a single copy of a short story in the ebooks or an addendum in the back of the physical books.

    Just a thought.

    Happy Holidays!!!
