That’s me these past three weeks. Do this, do that, do this over there, hurry up! Approve this, create cover for that, someone decided that offworld is misspelled in SiP and complained to Amazon (it’s intentionally spelled that way), omg, there is a guy on Belgian Amazon selling all of our books in a bundle. Wait, no, he is selling a list of all of our books and charging people 99 cents. For the reading order list. What?
I sat down yesterday and happily wrote 2,000 words just to get away from everything.
I was contacted by a young writer on Facebook yesterday asking for a blurb. I had to explain the proper procedures, but before I did that, I went and looked up the writer’s previous book on Amazon. It had a huge glaring issue on page two that would be very easy to fix if someone made him aware of it. The author clearly jumped the gun with publication. Another 6 months of intense practice would’ve improved the manuscript by leaps and bounds. In this case, a critique was not requested, so I did not offer one. It would’ve been in bad taste. But I remembered that we used to do some one page critiques, and it’s been ages since we’ve done some and people have asked for them before.
So, if you are brave – and you will need the bravery because it can be brutal – send one page of your work to Susan at ilonaandrews.assistant at gmail. Your email should say One Page Challenge. You can send a section of your work or your synopsis. You work will be critiqued on the blog. (Bravery.) Susan will randomly send me no more than three of these, and we’ll do them one by one over the course of next week. The submission window is opened for 24 hours.
[UPDATE] Hi everyone! Susan here. You were all fantastic and I am so impressed by the volume of submissions. Ilona and Gordon definitely have enough to look through so I am not accepting any additional entries. Have a fantastic Wednesday!
[Admin] Happy Wednesday! I wanted to share a quick update from the Nola StoryCon Facebook page:
I hope this helps answer any questions you had about the 2016 event.
Ilona and Gordon and many, many other amazing authors will be in New Orleans at the 2016 NoLa StoryCon from September 30-October 1! There is too much to list here. Head over to the website, http://nolastorycon.com, for a list of authors and events. It will be an amazing weekend and we would love to see you there.
CONTEST IS OVER. NO ADDITIONAL ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Magic Nine needs a title.
What will the book be about?
Kate and Curran are getting married on the July 6 (I know the book says June but it’s July) during a Russian pagan festival. So there will be lots of Russian stuff in the books. Also certain people (using plural here to avoid spoilers) get kidnapped by Roland and slowly murdered, and Kate must go and get said people rescued, even if they were total assholes in the last book.
So wedding. Kidnapping. Family reunions. Flower crowns. I want Kate to have the traditional Ivan Kupalo flower crown on the cover and so help me all the evil deities of Slavic pantheon, I will pitch a huge fit if it’s not there.
So, here is your opportunity to suggest a title in the comments. The title must start with Magic and end with some sort of verb that could also be a noun. So titles like MAGIC MAKES PANCAKES will not be accepted. Previous titles:
MAGIC BITES, MAGIC BURNS, MAGIC STRIKES, MAGIC BLEEDS, MAGIC SLAYS (not a noun, wth?), MAGIC RISES, MAGIC BREAKS, MAGIC SHIFTS.
Three entries per comment. Pick your three best ones. Contest will be over on September 1st. If duplicate entries occur, the earliest comment wins.
Prizes: Ummm, I don’t know, what do you want? You get to read Magic Nine early, your own autographed copy, and your name in acknowledgments. 🙂
