First things first, Jeaniene Frost’s Into the Fire is out today. Happy Book Birthday to Jeaniene! Reda excerpt, watch trailer and more here.
Now then, onto the subject of this post. We buy orthopedic dog beds for our older dog, Del. Del has issues with her thyroid and is carrying a little extra weight. She takes medication twice a day. She is coming up on her 11 years, which is advanced age for a Doberman, and we like to make sure she is comfy. The dog bed looks something like this.
Unfortunately, we have to wash the dog bed a lot. Because of her thyroid issues, Del has skin problems. Sometimes her pelt gets oily, and sometimes it’s dry. We are limited in how often we can bathe her even with the gentlest shampoo, because we don’t want to aggravate that. Del also likes to run in the back yard and roll around in the grass, and then flop on her pillow, so the pillow cover must be frequently washed. After a wash, that white fake fur on top turns into a mat of grey nastiness. Even when bleached it looks awful and it’s scratchy. We’ve been buying new ones every 3-4 months and I’m sick of it. Even when clean, it looks filthy.
I’d like some recommendations for a dog bed. It needs to be washable, preferably come with an inner waterproof liner, be rectangular or round, so it’s easy to strip the cover off, and it would help greatly if it could actually look decent after it’s washed. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
