Books

I’m reading this goodie.  I have the older edition, the one on the left.  I’ve been making circles around the Warhammer since Gordon bought me a really cool looking graphic novel.  I loved the art, but pretty much had no idea what the heck was going on.  So while at Powell’s, I bought a stack of Warhammer tie-ins.

It’s this weird blend of exotic sword and sorcery with military SF.  I can’t stop reading the darn thing.  Usually I won’t even finish most books, but I’m half way through omnibus and I’m showing no signs of slowing down.

Dear Warhammer, if you ever need a tie-in writer, I’m so there.

TV

I took a little break from Farscape to watch Pawn Stars and Chappelle’s Show with Gordon.  The Chappelle’s show is now on Netflix and just as funny the second time around.  I’m Rick James, bitch.  :P   People gave him a lot of crap from walking away from the show, but I completely understand – the pressure had to be intense.  The stress of MAGIC BLEEDS release nearly snapped me, and considering all the craziness I’ve been through in my life, I really have no explanation why it had gotten to me that badly.  I’m determined not to stress as much. (Which is probably why Gordon is making sure that I now have mandatory entertainment.  :P )

So while I was at it, I’ve watched an episode of Bridezillas.  I love that show.  Our wedding was almost stress free and on the cheap – my dress cost $200 and we had only the immediate family present.  I love it.  There are people crazier than me out there and Bridezillas proves it.

While I was watching Bridezillas, one of the brides had her toe nails painted blue. So I sat there and thought, “Hmm, I wonder what it would look like.”  The kids had bought a blue nail polish and I stole it and did my toe nail and since I was doing it, I did my nails too.  Once I had done it, the toes nail looked okay, but the nails didn’t.  I asked the kids for the nail polish remover and surprise, we don’t have any.  I’m stuck with jewel toned bright turquoise nails.  O_O

Games

We’ve decided to reactivate WOW.  I’m on a strict limit of no more than two hours per day and only after my wordcount is done.    I’m sticking to it.  It’s my carrot to keep working.

We’re probably going to transfer out our mains, probably to Darrowmere and maybe start some punk characters.

If I get addicted, I pull the plug again.  :)

Comments

  1. You forgot movies. We will have to go see the new Twilight movie and I want to see the Expendables when it comes out.

  2. I’ve been reading the Horus Herasy books! I am really enjoying them. Who would have thought I’d read the Warhammer 40K books? Not me, certainly. Good luck with the non-addiction to WoW. I’ve not reactivated my account for fear of neglecting my kids again. However, books seem to be just a addicting for me. :)

Re: Gordon, I still want to see Eclipse too. I took the kids to see The Last Airbender on Saturday. It is missing all fun and humor of the series. And it feel rushed. I feel like I haven’t seen a good movie at the theater in a couple years.

    • The kids really like Toy Story 3. A-team was fun in anything goes type of way. We liked Knight & Day, too.

      • I’ll have to try those out. The kids never were into the first two Toy Story movies, but I liked them. Maybe they will like A-team. Knight and Day was the Cruise and Diaz movie, right? I might go see that one with the girls from work.

  3. Welcome back to WoW!! :D A time-limit is certainly wise. Have you considered activating the parental controls to ensure you stick to your limited hours?

Anywho…seeing as you’ve been away for a while, you should look into the RealID changes. Lots of craziness with privacy.

Oh, and good luck on meeting word count!!!!

My husband and I both play WoW, and we both got the authenticator. We both have never had a problem with getting hacked. We use strong passwords, don’t use mods, and don’t click on any phishing emails. The authenticators are pretty neat, although we have had a couple guildies who have the authenticator and they still got hacked. Apparently there is a way to do it, and it doesn’t take the hackers long to get a work around.

I agree the 2 hour time limit is awesome. Our guild is mostly old married people and we raid/dungeon crawl in the evenings after we put the kids to bed.

Blizzard has added some great stuff to make the game play easier: mounts are waaaaaay cheaper, the dungeon finder is made of awesome, and the quests are now linked on your map.

      • What is this authenticator thingie?

        • It is a random number generator that is sent to you. It is a key fob like little plastic thing. It is linked to your account, and once you enter your username and password, you have to enter the number on the key fob (6 or 8 digits) These will change each time you push the button on the key fob. http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=1100000622

          • So without the physical little key fob, a person can’t log into your account… SUPER SECURE

        • Weirdness!

        • Misty Galvin says:

It has saved my account from being hacked once. it’s only like 6 bucks
and you get a cool pet for all your toons too. *Cough*Rexxar and guild
subversion is the best*Cough* ugh sorry about that had something in my
          throat. LOL :P

          • you can also get an authenticator app on an Iphone, or like me on your ipod touch to which gives you the new pet as well. and It FREE, i like free.

            • Misty Galvin says:

oh cool I did not know that. Would not help me as seeing
I have a blackberry but that is cool

              • Circejane says:

The $6 (shipping included) keychain authenticator
gives you a Core Hound Pup pet! Very fun. Come on
over the The Venture Company, we have cookies!

  4. Blue nails are cool, I’m always buying new shades for my girls ( so I can steal it) x

  5. By the way…. I can’t look at your new profile Kate without thinking “Nicole Kidman”

  6. Katie L says:

I love Bridezillas!! It’s television’s way of showing me that no matter how terrible a person I am, someone will be willing to marry me. While a camera crew films it.
And a cheeky blue nail varnish is cool, I think the problem is getting past the shock of looking down at your hands and thinking a smurf’s been getting busy with your digits.

  7. Is falling asleep during “Twilight” a sign of what my analyzing mind thought of it or was I just *7%$%** tired?!? Any takers?

  8. wedschilde says:

hey, wait a second…. was i mandatory entertainment?

    • No ma’am. You iz family.

      • wedschilde says:

i dunno. i think we had a lot of entertainment :::wicked grins::: of course for the death of me i can’t name any one thing we did… um…

heh… and we didn’t even alcohol ourselves!

        and snookies

  9. Hey, you might have kept me awake, thought.

  10. Welcome back to WoW! I reactivated my account about a month ago after an 8 month break. I love it. It’s great, I also try to manage my time as best as possible, but it’s so hard sometimes!!

You should check out the changes that are coming with the new relase, Catalyst. ZOMG such good stuff!!

    *HAPPY DANCE*

Space Wolves are awesome — Leman Russ is the coolest primarch by far.

WoW…. evil. I was heavily into SWG when WoW came out and it just didn’t do it for me. Now I am dedicated to LotRO… at least until TOR comes out.

LotRO is great for the time limit thing — very little of the game requires more than a 2 hours in a sitting. It’s been called WoW lite and I have to agree. They also recently made it free to play for the first couple areas (and modified those areas so that they are super easy — not so great). If you are ever looking for another option. ;)

the new twilight film is the best of the bunch… i went to a midnight viewing and worried about falling asleep after the yawnfest of the last one but shouldn’t have worried – it rocks!!!

  13. I envy those who play WoW. I’m an all or nothing sort of person so I’d become completely hooked and never get anything else done. Glad you can unwind like that.

I do need to see the last two TWILIGHT movies. My problem is I keep rooting for the werewolf, screaming at Bella for being a wimp, and wanting to stake the sparkly vamp. Best I watch them at home so I don’t annoy others.

  14. I’ve been wanting to play WoW again for a couple of weeks now, after a few months’ absence. It’s kind of like a favorite vacation spot. I love to revisit the scenery every so often, and then I leave the game for a while…we can’t really afford to travel any great distances these days, but WoW helps with that. :)

  15. Oh, the blue nail polish!

I’ve got a bottles also of green and aquamarine polish too. They’re lovely on the toes but on the hands they look, ehm, let’s say weird! And it’s worse if you are fair skinned like me.

Actually those colours make your hands look like you’re a couple of days dead or just been hibernated :-)

Sadly, for some strange quirk of my blood, my nail tend to be blue naturally in winter. Decaying red cells due to cold, nothing dangerous actually but really impressive looking since my fingers turns VERY white too! Like a walking corpse…

  18. O_O

Don’t ask me what happened, I’ve clicked on “submit” only once!
    Sorry :-)

  19. The bridezillas thing confuses the crap out of me. My mom and aunts took care of the decorations-under $200. My dress was about $500. The church was free. Reception was no more than $400. Since I paid for my dress, the wedding cost my folks $500-$600 dollars, food and all. Our honeymoon was a gift from his parents-a trip to Alaska. Don’t see why people want to start out their lives in debt-and unless they are loaded-how can they NOT start out their lives in debt, seeing the way some of those weddings go. It’s hard enough getting used to being a unit, why add that stress?

*G* Blue toe nails… I’ve thought of doing the blue, but any time I see blue, my nursing brain kicks into play and I’m thinking ‘cynatic’ and green makes me thing ‘fungus’ even though fungus doesn’t really turn nails green I don’t think.

I’ve never gotten hooked on WOW. And I’m not going to. I’ve got enough addictions to deal with…

  20. I used to wear electric blue nail polish to the conventions, which lead to me having to hastily remove and repaint those nails to red to attend a relative’s funeral. My Missouri relatives would not have understood that brilliant blue thing.

Ilona — try black toes next time. That would be cool.

  21. I actually just reactivated WoW also, I also have a time limit that I allow myself since I tend to get just a teeny bit addicted. I blame it on my roommate, he is always playing it in front of me, I finally broke and started a whole new character. Good luck keeping to your time limit!

  22. The hubby started with Horus Heresy and is now plowing through Warhammer 40k. He wanted to read the books in some kind of order so I make a spreadsheet.. really. What a mess, but if anyone wants a copy of the list I made I would be glad to send it.

  23. Nail polish– I think it sounds pretty–

I CANNOT add any sword and sorcery books to my shelf. I just can’t. They are getting heavier all the time, and it frightens me. I used to read Fritz Leiber (Fafhrd and Gray Mouser were a favorite) and I own all of Terry Brooks’ books.

I played Runescape a few years ago and was addicted. Addicted and BAD at it. Those two things are just lame, and so I quit. *snort*

I bought my wedding dress for 100.00, made my own flowers and veil. I was quite crafty back then. Chuck organized our reception for over 100 people, and supervised cooking all the food. Before he was an RN he managed a restaurant and cooked for years.

I can’t watch reality TV- I get embarrassed FOR people, and then get all flustered. Weird I know.

  24. On a side note, Jack Yeovil (Kim Newman) has an awesome omnibus set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe. (The Vampire Genevieve)

  25. After reading this blog I had to laugh. . .I just had a heart to heart with my husband about how his Space Wolf army has taken over my kitchen table. He has been playing Warhammer for years and he just finished the the book you mentioned.

I read the blog to my husband and he thinks ya’ll are pretty neat, so now I can go buy your Magic series (I’m a library person)!!

Two hours a day on WoW is about what I let myself play, because I could be on for hours.

  26. The Dan Abnett “Gaunt’s Ghosts” series in Warhammer 20K are my favourite…

  27. PS. You did know that the books are a spinoff from the minature games?

    http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/

Have a look if you like painting little things and then destroying worls with them!

  28. Space Wolf has been on my TBR pile since Christmas! I got into a Sci-fi discussion with BOYS. Youngish sort. One of them was very very very impressed with my vintage Dragons of Twilight/Margaret Weis Tracy Hickman trilogy (first edition of the trilogy pubbed together) and we swapped books. Omnibus was his most highly recommended.

  29. Ilona! Warhammer? Really?! I’ve been dealing with my fiancee’s obsession with the universe since I started dating him! He officially hero-worships you for reading the books, lol.

you need to watch a movie the new twilight movie eclipse is out but i have seen A-TEAM which is really really awesome. If you liked the action of the 80′s show this is a really good version of it. Plus Bradley Cooper was so totally hot in it. Also, I saw Avatar which i think was good if a little Nickalodeonish but then again they did produce it and the cartoon series. I am really excited about Eclipse but supposedly they are going to produce a movie of one of laurell k hamilton’s books. After dark has talked about it. I know its early going but would you ever want any of your books to become movies. I think they would love your Kate Daniels serie but i kind of fell in love with the Edge also. I think both would be challenging for a producer but i don’t know which would have the most interesting backgroud and world building in film. I’m just happy you and gordon are going to write more. But think about it WHO would play KATE? I vote for the red haired girl from Queen of the Damned, She was also in Firestarter two rekindled: her name is Margret Moreau. When i read your books i envision her. Currian is not as set in my mind. I just see an impression of blond sexiness. So his actor is up for grabs. I am voting for the razs from Underworld for Jim. I don’t know this is all fantasy so who would you think of for Currian? Definitely the hardest. think about it who is that sexy and dominant.

  31. World of Warcraft is starting to turn out books as well. It explains some of the back stories pretty nicely!
