Why target us? they mainly target forums with the forum software, I think. It's not bad in our case, since we activate new members manually anyway AND Newbies can no longer open new threads or send PMs, so we have time to identify them and get rid of them. Other forums still keep themselves wide open for spammers. We started googeling new member names if they look dubious and if they come up as latest member of tons of other forums on google search, you can be sure it's a spammer. who else would sign up on 50 different forums in one day? has to be a spam-bot. |
