Yesterday over lunch at a Japanese restaurant Lord Panda and I hashed out a large scene we need to plug into Kate 5 to make it more kateish, and that will be my mission for today. Also, I might make some fish and rice at some point. Mmm, fish and rice.
After our lunch, we headed into the Asian market, nabbed XXXHolic, Ouran and Deathnote wallscrolls and proceeded to load up on fish, nori, and Lychee snacks.

Balut - a nearly hatched duck egg, cooked by boiling it in the shell
I’m mostly a tolerant eater. I will try just about anything once, but there are a few foods even I will steer clear of. I like Filipino cuisine, but I am not touching the balut with a ten foot poll.
There is just something about eating a boiled fertilized egg that is really not appetizing,
I won’t eat holodets, also known as stooden. It’s a very old Russian dish, made by boiling meat, usually the tougher parts of a cow, for 10-12 hours. Once boiled, the meat is shredded, the stock is seasoned with pepper and garlic, and then the whole thing is cooled down for several hours, until it congeals into into a meat gel. My grandparents made it all the time, and I can’t stand it. The texture makes me gag.

I love seafood. Pretty much every kind of shellfish, fish, or other weirdness. If it swam, I will probably eat it (with the obvious exception of marine mammals, eating which I do not support in any way, shape or form.) But yesterday at Uwajimaya grocery store I saw something that I just can’t contemplate cooking.
I present to you the geoduck.
Check this out:

Geoduck and the Geoduck farmer
Apparently, this is some sort of giant clam, harvested in Washington state and highly prized for its meat and aphrodisiac qualities. Uwajimaya has a tank full of them and they just wiggle in there back and forth. It’s like looking at a tank full of some sort of prehistoric floating penises.
I kid you not.

OK I knew I loved your books, but Death Note, Ouran and xxxHolic wallscrolls?! I think its love *jk*. All fabulous series!
I love Japanese cuisine and I am a seafood lover too but of course nothing beats my Mama’s home cooked Adobo. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t touch Balut even if I die of starvation and I’m Filipino. Other than that, home-cooked Filipino dishes are the best. Kinda wish I’m back home because cooking is not my forte.
The clam/penis thingies look nasty…ewwww
