Cat Shaming

Comments

  1. Salem looks like she might start demon growling at the human next to her for daring the sign. Definitely not looking happy.

Funny. I have a Harlequin Tortie who always looks mean. ALWAYS. It wouldn’t be so bad but she has a habit of standing on me, her face very near mine, and waiting. Just waiting. And before anyone asks, I have never watched a horror movie with her. This is something she does on her own. Freaks me out though.

    • Salem is actually a very sweet nice cat. Except to other cats.

      • Years ago I had a kitten who was the same way – she loved being held and wanted to be around people. Of course, she took it to the point of making sure to chase away the three other kittens (pushing them off of your lap or simply insinuating herself between them and you) and when she couldn’t be next to someone she often was found sleeping with her head in the food bowl, ensuring that none of the others would get the food before she did.

        We named her Envy.

  2. Very cute! I also like that you seem to keep a baseball bat in the window next to the front door – handy!

    • Heh, I noticed the baseball bat, too. Maybe it’s kept there as a warning for any boys who dare to come over to visit Kid 1 or 2? ;)

    • It’s for the damn religious people who ignore the NO SOLICITING sign. This is Texas, for God’s sake, there are two churches just in our subdivision, if I wanted your God, I’d go and find him.

      • :D :D

        • Some years back I was approached on the street by a proselytizer who did not want to accept my lack of interest. I ended up leaving him blank-faced by holding out my hand, palm out and fingers extended, and telling him “May the Peace of the Goddess be with you.”

      • I am so distracted by the bat- does is say “Insanity”? Awesome, I need one!

      • Oh Gordon, be glad it isn’t Alabama! You just wouldn’t believe it.

      • When I was in middle school, a friends mother managed to get rid of all her religious door to door people. They and I are Catholic and in the area were Jehovah’s Witnesses that did the door to door. My friends mother met them at the door one day and thanked them for sharing their religion with her, and she would like to return the favor and started going over a bunch of pamplets on Catholicism she had collected for just that purpose… She never heard from them again. :-)

      • Kaylen/Kayeri says:

My husband keeps a greatsword inside our front door, but his stated reason is for when the boys start showing up… our daughter isn’t quite 11 yet, though, so we still have some time. =) We don’t get religous types much, but I got a nutritionist who has opened an office in the strip mall at the end of the block last week who didn’t think me running out and jumping in the van meant I had places to go.

    • I’m sitting here wondering why they manufacture such long drink cans in America.

Evidently, today is a bad day.

  3. I’m sure if you spoke ‘cat’, you would understand that Salem was just making it clear, to the other cats, who exactly is the Cat Lord Master of the house. :D

  4. Ut-oh!

  5. I thought cats had no shame? Mine don’t, even when they should :D

    • Michael M. Jones says:

This is correct. You cannot shame cats, for they have no shame.

Salem is beautiful… looks just like my Diana, who is also the sort to make noises like a thing of Hell when provoked or her food is threatened. :)

  6. I don’t think Salem is in the least upset by the shaming and is in fact planning your doom right this very minute.

  7. Instead of a bat, maybe a shotgun that you can pump one-handed as you open the door. (unloaded of course) Or if Gordon answered in a Borat one-piece bathing suit – priceless.

And my older cat does the same thing to the 2 younger ones, even after 5 years. (But cute pics!)

  8. Too funny!

  9. Salem’s a cat, you can’t shame him! Unlike dogs, they just don’t care what you think, as long as the food keeps coming…

  10. I was just looking at this site this morning. http://cat-shaming.tumblr.com/
I agree with the above posts, cat shaming isn’t as effective as dog shaming. Cats are all shameless!

  11. Can cat form look of shame even…? Look of disdain is perfected, though…

  12. We’ve got a 10 week old foster kitten who growls while he eats. The chewing breaks up the growls so it sounds like he’s saying “om-nom-nom-nom-nom-nom”. No joke. It is one of the most hilarious things I’ve seen and I wish I could film it!

    • May just be a quirk for your little guy, but I had a cat that did the same thing. It ended up being due to pain from an infected gum so for my old guy it was more a “man this hurts but I am so hungry”.

  13. wasnt_serious says:

We have just brought a dog into the house of The Cat. The Cat is not amused. Although she is very curious…when the dog is sleeping. She gives the dog interloper about the same look Salem is giving the note…

  14. Salem doesn’t LOOK shamed………….

  15. I have two very sweet cats… But they deserve a cat shame sign for what they do to my redwood stair rails. The sign would say, “you mean these aren’t custom cat scratching posts?”. Each of the 20 or so posts are now wrapped with bubble wrap. Kill me.

    • Have you tried lemon scented furniture oil or polish? I have had success with using it on our solid wood front door. (One of our cats believes all doors in the house should be open at all times!)

  16. I agree. Cats feel no shame so you can’t shame them. They might even have fun if they attack the piece of paper.

  17. Cats might be shameless, but they can embarass themselves! We had a kitten who missed a jump from the back of one chair to another, so she ran away and hid while we laughed. She made it very clear that we had hurt her feelings.

  18. haahahahahahaha so so true!!!

  19. Holly Denghel says:

Bully!! Big, cute, fluffy bully, but still a bully. Too bad that saying “bad cat” has absolutely no affect. It’s a lot easier when the animal in question actually cares about your opinion!! That said, I wouldn’t trade any of my four cats for anything!

  20. :) 3 of my 4 cats have shame face when I catch them in the act, but 1 of them the black bitch queen would never! :) She’s the one that lived on the street in a really hot area /had a litter before being placed in resuce… so I guess she’s “street-tough”.

  21. *snickers* yes and looking at the pics and reading all the nice and funny comments,
my day started with a smile. Thank you :)
Ah yes: Cats have no shame^^

  22. Best solution, separate the placement of the food bowls. :)

  23. I loved shaming cats
