Okay, that is a BIG cat!!!
Is there such a thing as a were-housecat? That kitty is giant.
He is not that large, actually. I think it’s just the way the shot was taken, maybe?
And the camera adds 10 lbs at least.
Cat: *flop* ZzzZzzZZzz
Dog: “What the…?”
Dog: “Are you seeing this?”

The pictures are so sweet. Love them!
Cats and Dog. eh? If they live together they really do not care about stereotypes (and the cats are usually the ones in charge)!
Usually the ones in charge? Really?
Remember, dogs have owners.
Cats have staff.
With dogs (especially the big ones) it all comes down to size: if something that lives with you is smaller than you it is a puppy and as such must be protected and forgiven for anything it does. This theory does not work well with smaller dogs as they in general are much more active and aggressive most of the time. So when there is a small dog like a Pomeranian and a moderately big cat the fog will from time to time treat the cat as a biting surface just to prove its coolness. (This paragraph is built on my own observations rather than any objective science)
So cute together! love the kitty and the doggy!
How much does Oliver weigh? He looks like he could be part Maine Coon laying next to the dog.
We had two Maine Coons as kids- mine was the runt of the litter (named Phoenix because she wasn’t breathing when born) and she weighed 16 pounds fully grown. The breeders’ pride and joy was a 27 pound fellow named Zeb.
I think he might be. He opens doors, he got into shower with Kid 2 while the water was running, and he seems really smart. He is totally a lap cat, when the mood strikes him, though and I had to push him off my laptop keyboard today.
Our kittys tried to be lap cats too, but only their front halves would fit! My brother’s cat was nicknamed Pooch because she acted so much like a dog. Maine Coons are known as a breed for being more water friendly (though ours weren’t) and for being quite “talkative” with a sort of chirpy meow. It’s obvious he’s very contended in your home! Personally, I think a happy cat is a compliment to the household.
My Zero is not a lap cat, he’s a you’re-not-looking-at-me-so-I’m-sitting-on-whatever-offensive-thingie-that-got-the attention-I-deserve…
Oliver must be related to Curran – that is a big kitty

Interesting. What is that brown thing in between them?
It’s Del’s blankie. She holds it in her mouth and whines.
There’s something a wee bit hilarious about a Dobie with a security blanket.
My friend’s dog puts a blanket in her mouth and whines around it when you aren’t paying enough attention to her. It’s how she pouts. So cute!
I thought it was just a shepherd thing. My two Dutchies are the first dogs I’ve had that would drag their blankies around with them. Apparently it’s a Dobie thing too.
I’m glad Oliver has adapted to the family – hopefully Miss Salem will warm up to him eventually.

That is one big kitty cat!
She may have decided that the smartest thing to do is leave that cat alone! I wish mine got along so well. I can’t leave the cats and dogs together when I go out. There would be blood when I returned.
Love the pet photos & stories- too cute!
It’s funny how Oliver looks exactly the same in every photo.
Love it!! Thanks for sharing.
“… dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!”
This popped into my head too!

Oh, chilling-togheter cuteness…
…?
I find all these comment re: cats and dogs together puzzling. Maybe I just come from an odd family. From early childhood, I can’t recall the cats and dogs not getting along. Some sleep curled up together. But then, some of the dogs (even at 98 lb.s) have been rather cat-like, and some of the cats didn’t know they weren’t dogs. We had cats go on hikes with us, or even hunting, and my current housemate walks on a leash (he’s a cat).
I think it depends on the animals. My parents are house sitting a Dachsund and their cat chases it around like a buddy. Then my sister came over with her Dachsund and said cat hissed and spit and attacked it. I haven’t tried introducing my two cats to the canine species, so we will see how that goes someday
We like to say that my min pin and our mainly-feral Russian Blue have a forbidden love. The min pin and the dachshund will chase her but the cat cuddles in dog bed with them and they nuzzle their heads together.
So cute. Two of my dogs are currently “play-fighting.”. Loudly.
I have four cats (Merlin, Persephone, Pyewacket and Zeke) who are 6 years old or older. We got a dog (Ajax) a year ago when he was a year old . Three of the cats avoid Ajax whenever possible and hiss when they can’t. For the most part, Ajax ignores the cats. Zeke, however, who is a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic, loves Ajax and tries to rub up against Ajax or sleep near him. Ajax doesn’t know what to make of it.
Adorable!
So Sweet! He does look Big in those pictures.
Was Del afraid that he got too close to her blanket? Del looked like she was looking for reassurance that it was ok for him to lay down there.
That is a glorious cat. So glad he has a home with you. That picture makes it look very clearly like Del is not the apha animal there – the ‘er… mom? Mom!?’ expression on her face is priceless.
Usually the trick to having cats and dogs live together in peace is to start with a bold kitten, get it to adult size. Then bring in puppy. Cat puts dog into the inferior zone. Dog never forgets. Cat rules. Then bring in new kitten as first gets old, and hopscotch them. Works for us!
Aweseome kitty. I am sure the dog is nice too.
What a lovely sight to see, the cat and dog looking that they are living harmoniously with each other.
On another note, I guess GayLee’s suggestion is right. I tried raising kittens and puppies together and they became enemies.

My first cat, Abby, was indeed a bold one. When we got our first dog, Woody, he attempted to corner her and treat her with less than the respect she knew she was due. She gave him the old 1-2-3-4-5-6 across the nose so fast I couldn’t see her paws moving. Thereafter Woody addressed her as Abby, Queen of the World.
Haha the cat is almost as big as the dog!!!
What kind of dog is Del? She kind of looks like a Doberman, but at the same time, not. I still maintain that that cat is a mini-Curran. xD

Looks like one of the hounds from On The Edge.
I apologise if this is an inappropriate place to do this, but you own a doberman pincher and access to more people to help.
Please read http://www.saveheidi.com/ and if possible, share with others. It breaks my heart that this would happen!
This dobermin pincher and her family need support.
Melanie,
I am not going to delete your comment, so it will remain here for people to see.
But I have to point out, that as a dog owner, it is my responsibility to control my dog. Especially a Doberman who is a large, powerful animal. A dog should never jump up when a stranger approaches. Del is very well trained. She holds completely still when people approach to pet her. I’ve had toddlers rush her before in Petsmart and she will simply stand there and let them hang on her.
Despite that, I watch her as a hawk. I always shorten the leash and I always make sure that I’m in the position to quickly intervene if something happens. She has teeth like a crocodile. You just can’t take that chance.
I feel for the owners, but this is not a dog fail. This is an owner’s fail. I completely can see how it could happen, and there, but by the Grace of God, go I, but understand why the city is pushing for removal.
I understand and agree with you. It’s just sad for the dog. Thank you for leaving the link up.
Ilona, couldn’t have said it better. Having been the owner of a dog with aggressive tendencies (a genetic condition called Springer Rage), I had the responsibility of making sure Henry didn’t interact with people without very close supervision. When it became clear that he truly was beyond help, that he would eventually snap despite the best damn training, we with great sadness put him down. We were all heartbroken, but it was our duty to protect the world from a dog who couldn’t control his fear and need to defend himself from any and all.
So many people get dogs without understanding that they must be the alpha at all times. Most dogs are happy in the subservient role, but some breeds will test, test, test. Wolves and wolf-dog crosses are especially in need of a very strong human owner. Dog breeds that were bred for fighting (pits), defense (german shepards and the other guard-herders) and guarding (dobies) aren’t automatically destined to be biters, but it takes careful training to make sure those qualities aren’t triggered. Even the little purse-doggies can be vicious, they just can’t do as much damage with those little mouths.
Like you said, it ain’t the dog’s fault, it’s the human’s lack of understanding, training, and responsible behavior.
“Whoa! Wait, MOM! He’s TOUCHING my BLANKET!”
Ohhh… They are so sweet… We all know that dogs and cats are mortal enemies, but look at these two, they are so sweet… I love it!

Every day that I’ve come here looking for a new post, I get all happy inside even when there isn’t one. This has been especially true because of this particular post, because you have gorgeous pets and I laugh inside every time I see the dog’s face and the cat just laying there like “oh yeah, what a good spot to sleep” and not thinking anything at all about the dog next to it. Of course, that may be one of the biggest cats I’ve seen that was still considered a house cat.
I got pictures of our kitten and dog cuddling on the big chair. It was hilarious. They acted like they were “caught” when I walked in with the camera.
I really need to get video of our kitten grooming the big, bad dog. She’ll sit on top of the dogs head, grab both sides of his head with her paws and gently bite down on his ears and nose until he holds still. She’ll clean him and repeat with holding/biting if he dares to move.
And I agree, either your dog is small or that cat looks HUGE!
Does he try and sit on things to get attention? That butt looks like it could destroy a laptop.
