Thank you and Some Answers

Thank you so much for all of your congratulations.  :)  We are delighted to have two cool series to work on and we appreciate your support. Some of you emailed with questions, so here we go.

1363117840_dialog-questionDoes this mean Clean Sweep is cancelled?

No, not at all.  We are working on it.  Right now we have two guys scraping the walls in the kitchen and yesterday they demoed the cabinets, so the writing time is a little hard to carve out right now.  Looking at my writing desk right now: there is a box of kosher salt, almonds for salad, juice and a pizza box.  Everything is moved out of the kitchen and spread across the house.  But we should have a new post for you this week.  A trip to Cosco doesn’t go that well.  :)

What about the Edge?

Guys, we quit writing the Edge, because we ran out of steam creatively.  If someone came over right now, dropped $100K on our doorstep and said, “Hey, write me a new Edge,” we probably couldn’t do it. There is just nothing there.  Which isn’t to say that tomorrow we won’t get a shiny new idea and start writing an Edge novella on the side.

Can we have a new Curran POV?

You just had one.  Look, I am officially excusing myself from answering POV questions.  Gordon writes them and I can’t make that man do anything.

Gordon Says: Don’t listen to her, I am a very obedient house husband and to prove it I will be putting up the first part of a thing I’ve been working on, admittedly for way too long.

Will the new series feature different couples or the same couple?

Three books, same couple.  It will be more like Kate and Curran with relationship building over the course of three books.

Are you scared writing a new series?

Yes.  Very, very nervous about it.  Avon heavily invested in us and we don’t want to write a book that’s an epic fail. But working on it is really fun, so hopefully it will be fun to read.

Let’s see, what else…  DABWAHA is going on right now.  They always have the coolest prizes, so if you get a chance, check it out.  Our books haven’t made it in this year, but people have been writing them in.  I just want to warn you that if we did get a write-in vote, we usually get knocked out in the second or third round.  :P  People offer a lot of awesome bribes for voting.  I got burned on it one year, when I was playing around and doing the silly bribing vote thing and the author our books were pitted against got her feelings hurt, so now I try to stay out of it.

Well, that about does it for our Q&A.  I have to go wreck Kate and Curran’s life a bit.

Comments

  1. Is it wrong that it makes me happy when you talk about wrecking Kate and Curran’s life a bit?

Just want to say major kudos, not only on the book contracts, but that you are so juiced about the new series! Hope the writing and world building continues to be mostly fun hard work and not grueling hard work.

    • No it’s right! No relationship is perfect and life always take a big dump on people when they least expect it. IE. Kitchen of doom. *points up*

If Kate and Curran were blissfully happy all the time we’d be bored bored bored and wouldn’t love them for the struggling people that they are.

  2. Yay! I’m so excited! I just read Silent Blade and Silver Shark last night when I heard the announcement! I love the world you and Gordon have created there! Good luck with the books. I’ll be waiting (mostly) patiently for the first one!

  3. Silver Shark, Silent Blade, all the books that you’ve set in sci-fi/alternate universe worlds with Mafia/Clan-owned corporations running planets…they’ve all felt like teasers to something big. Which is why when you started writing Alphas, though it wasn’t the same really and much more close to the Edge series, I got seriously excited.
And now I’m doing cartwheels in my head because this announcement is EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting for, for three years now. So, THANK YOU!!

The latest Currran POV has me rereading the series (needed a Crest refresher). The only book I didn’t own was the 1st, and I like the oversize with the extras. Looking forward to Rises and anything else you write…thank you.

  5. Ok did you REALLY have to end the post with that comment!?!?!?!?! I am so excited about the new series and the fact that your continuing Innkeeper! Then you have to go and make me nervous and stressed about Kate and Curran. OMG time to freak out. :) lol its amazing how much I have invested in these characters – testament to how amazingly well you write!!

    • Wow….you took the words right out of my mouth.

What a great post. I am so happy that there is a new series coming out and I love everything you guys write. But seriously all my happy vibes have turned to nervousness with that last comment about Kate and Curran. I guess that’s what makes you so successful. Thank you for the update and the Curran POVs. Can’t wait for your new series and Kate.

  6. Mc Gibson says:

In honor of Kate & Curran:

    Ouch.

  7. Glad to hear that they are working on your kitchen so hopefully that issue will end soon and life can return back to normal. It is a great thing that you will have a replacement story for the edge as your writing let’s me drift into the world of imagination which is what I need to recharge my mental wellbeing. Thank You

  8. *sighs happily* I love love love love love the aspect of relationship over several books. It feels more solid if the characters take their time. Far too many books deal with the quick payoff. You KNOW what will happen and that kind of takes the edge off the interest. I still remember reading when Kate and Curran got together the first time I jumped up on the bed and waved the book around going “HA! YES! FINALLY! AWESOME! HAHA!” My husband was amused. Then he started reading the series and pretty much did the same thing. Although in a more manly way.

  9. As wonderful as The Edge series was since you guys just aren’t feeling it I am glad that you are not continuing with it. Its so much better for a series to end great than to continue on and on and have readers eventually say “I remember when that series was great” .
Anyway I am looking forward to the new series and love books that feature one couple

  10. Veronika cz says:

When I read this I remembered I would like to ask obouth Alphas. It was one of yours short story. I liked it. It was in an anthology. I don’t remember the name. It was something like Deth angels or maby Angels of deth I’m not sure. There was a hint on Alphas in Bayou Moon. Cerise and William broke in a cotage witch belonget to Alphas. So they ara in the same world like The edge. I would like to know if are Alphas aware of edge and/or weird? Because Cerise said they are only in Broken. And second question is: Are you planning to return to Alphas? Sometimes? The third question was if are You planning to write book in whitch Alphas will interfere with edgers or weirds. But you did actualy wrote that you did’t planning the edge. But hope dies last. So that’s all.
And Congratulations, I’m going to waiting to your new series. I’m sure I’m going to love them.
P.S.: I know that some sentencis aren’t right, but I just don’t know how to put them in right order
But I know That You are genial. You wil find it out.

  11. Ok, so this might’ve already been asked and answered, so I apologize if you’re repeating yourself. What world will the new series be in? The same one as Silent Blade and Silver Shark, or a different one? I’m so excited about this premise because both SS and SB were just awesome.

    • It is it’s own thing, though we want it to have a similar feel as the Kinsmen stories. We were actually in the parking lot of Panada Express the other day when she asked me if I thought there was a way to put Jack and George into the new thing. I didn’t think we could.

  12. I love you guys. You’re just awesome and make me smile.

  13. Well congratulations on the news.. and on the first steps to getting that kitchen fixed up.

Still, I have to say I did love the setting of Silver Shark and Silent Blade, so it’ll be interesting to see just what sort of world you’ll create when you twist that into a more supernatural type of Medici families…

  14. blackbook says:

I was sorry about the Edge being over and I get when you are done with something, you are done. Perhaps you need to let Sophie, George and Jack grow up. You just might have a story with them later. We can wait. In the meantime big congrats on your contracts. Looking forward to your new work.

“Three books, same couple. It will be more like Kate and Curran with relationship building over the course of three books.”

I’m so glad, i find it much more satisfying when relationships between characters develop gradually through the books, it’s one of the things I most appreciated in Kate’s series.

    Congrats and thank you!

  16. Checking in a little late this week. Wow – I love that we are getting a new world. I loved the Swine and Roses and Silver Shark worlds. And I’d never say no to more Kate.

Thanks for the POVs. Looking forward to the latest Clean Sweep. It’s like Christmas on the blog.
    THANK YOU!!!!

  17. Beatrice McKeown says:

I loved the Edge series and I felt that it needed at least one more book, maybe sometime in the future you will feel that you can write it. But I am excited to know that there is going to be a new series from you :) :)

  18. Have you ever wondered how Kate and Curran would handle a major kitchen meltdown and rebuild? Lol.

  19. So far I’ve loved everything that you guys wrote so I’m sure the new series will be good too. Congratulation on your continuing success. Being following you guys since your first Kate release. I hope that your fan base will continue to grow exponentially as your books are amazing. :)

  20. Carol Berlingieri says:

Thanks for the update! However, please be nice to Kate and Current!

    P.s. I would love a new edge book!! :-)

  21. Olivia Luna says:

Well done and well deserved! I am a long-time fan of your work and I have managed to rope my daughter and my husband into your world. It is exciting to see you reap rewards for your excellent work and I look forward to it all.

Good luck with your kitchen, it probably needed to be refreshed anyway. . . Trust me on this one, it is best to go with the flow (been there, happy that it is in the past, and delighted with the results)

  22. I’m really looking forward to your new series (and more Kate Daniels) and just wanted to point something out that you may (or may not) have seen!

I was on EReaderIQ Tracker and saw a link to “follow your favorite authors” I head over to that section of the site and who do I see ranked as “Most Followed Authors” with Stephen King, Orson Scott Card, Terry Pratchet, Dean Kootz and Charlaine Harris?

    Ilona Andrews!

Maybe it’s based on books I’m already tracking, but I don’t think so as my friends who have never used the site also see your name. Congratulations, and I look forward to more books!

  23. Yay! So many good news at once. Makes me insanely happy.

Super excited for the new series. Loving everything you guys dish out, I know it will be awesome. :D

Last line kind of makes me freak out. I dont know what you mean by “wreck”, but I guess “a bit” is some consolation. >.<

  24. I enjoyed the Edge alot. I had lots of questions, such as:
    - Why is there only an “Edge” in the US? There is a European part of the Weird, so why not an “Edge” in Europe, with odd folks from there?
    - Do other parts of the world have Normal/Broken/Weird parts? Like China?
    - The European/French part of the Weird produced the main antagonist, whom you have almost killed off twice. What about other antagonists from the same source (not just family to Spider) ?
    - Surely Spider has enemies?
    - Does the European part of the Weird have heros as well?

  25. Wow. I’m having a Kate Daniels withdrawal with book 6 only a few months away so I’m staying away for a while but oh did I miss a lot.
Congratulations to the new series and to Kate Daniel’s extension.
I love most especially the part where there’ll be a relationship building in the next books. Seriously, they circled for so long that no matter how much we get, fans can’t get enough of them.
They’re the most awesome couple in UF writing. Second only to you, Ilona and Gordon.
Thank you for the new POVs Gordon. I’m seriously considering action figures bribe and thank you right now. If I just know a thing about them.
Can’t wait for Magic Rises. Gimme, gimme, gimme….

  26. Hi!! I´m from Spain and I have the first, the second and the third books of kate daniels series, but I don´t find the fourth book. Can you tell me if it is in spanish or I have to wait it some time?

  27. Eddie Oosterweghel says:

    Hi guys
I am really enjoying the Kate Daniels series. I am having difficulty finding books 4 & 5 in ebook format at Kindle or iBooks. Can you help please?
    Regards Eddie

  28. I love your stories, and I love you guys. You are such an amazing team and so generous to your readers. Thank you, and I’m looking forward to more Kate and Curran, the new series in the Silver Shark/Silent Blade-type setting, and more Innkeeper. You’ve written my favorite urban fantasy, bar none.
