Oliver: I am staaaaarving, staaarving. I rub on your leg. I am so, so huuungry.
Me: Okay, dude, here is more food.
This morning.
Me: He’s out of food. I don’t understand, there was plenty left for today.
Gordon: Yeah. I fed him yesterday.
Me: I did too.
Kid 1, walking in, carrying Oliver: I fed him too.
Us: O_O
Kid 1, shrugging: He was crying that he was hungry.
We’re on to you, sir. We are on to you.

Awww…..He is a growing boy!!!
He is very regal…..obviously he has figured out the family. Have fun!
It’s not as cute when it is 4 boys (all under 10)! I can’t tell you how many times I am interrupted while making dinner to the sound of “I’m hungry. Can I have something to eat?” – my response is usually a snarl!
Every cat-slave on this earth knows that they rule us with their hypnotic super powers.
(We have three Coonies at home, or rather, they permit us to stay in their house: so I know what I am talking about.)
Haha! Our kitten was doing the same thing. She was suckering four people into feeding her, including me.
He is so adorable! I have 2 cats and they do the same so now I have to schedule the feeding times and they just have to wait for it (even if they’re starving). LOL
I know that feeling! Our cat, fittingly named Trouble wakes up my parents at five in the morning because obviously we don’t feel her enough and she is withering away without her wet cat food, despite having dry food.
This is one of those times that I’m glad she’s not allowed in my room.

He had a cunning plan, lol.
It’s not just cats. Scene from our house, just about every day:
DH: “Did you feed the dog?”
me: “Yes, five minutes ago”
DH: “She tells me she’s hungry…”
me: “She’s telling lies”
…
*sound of food bin from kitchen*
…
DH: “I don’t think you’d given her enough”.
No wonder she’s getting fat!
I’m the only one who lives in my apartment, so my cat doesn’t have that option. But she does, for some odd reason, whine and cry for food when there’s still food in her bowl. It amuses me to no end when I go in to feed her and she’s still got a quarter of her food left.
He is a cat!
We have to keep food dishes in our bedroom upstairs, as well as downstairs, because Scotty (a.k.a., “The Fat one”) will jump on our nightstand, and meow LOUDLY right in our face, several times a night, if he doesn’t have food near where we are. *sigh*
And we can’t lock him out, because I’m against declawing and he would destroy the carpet, the door, or the door frame, scratching on it all night.
We’re his hostages.
“We’re his hostages.”
think this says it all
I know! Isn’t that the truth? They own the place, we just get to live here as long as we feed the food bowls!
lurv OIiver!
We had to name a designated food giver for our bassett because the vet laid down the law about his weight. He stands over his empty bowl and if he doesn’t get anyone’s attention, he will pick it up and let it fall crashing down until someone comes to comfort him over it…..
This sounds like the cat in JD Robb’s In Death series, LOL! He plays hungry against different people in the house. With every meal!
But how could you resist teh kitteh?
Bwhahaahahaha! Animals is smarter than we want to believe! Although, feeding them because they are so dang cute is also a danger. I had to put my hedgehog on a diet because she got so fat that she couldn’t run on her wheel! It’s good that you are on to Oliver because I don’t think they make kitty mobility carts!
They train us very well. The cat who runs my house “herds” me to her bowl every morning. If it is the tiniest bit empty she stands over it crying like someone is torturing her. If it is full, she meows until I give her a treat, which is one little piece of her food! Crazy cats.

Yeah… that’s why our cat’s name went from Cutie Pie to Moo-ey. He’s a pig and a moocher. And too cute for his own good
The cats in my house usually grace me with their presence when it’s time to go to bed. Then they have to almost lay on top of me to sleep. We’re talking 2 almost 20lb tabby/maine coons. They are HEAVY!! In the day they come around to chase the puppies for fun, get everyone all riled up and then go hide under a bed upstairs for a nap. They only eat dry food so they have a self feeder and a water fountain water bowl. I fill the feeder once a week and fill the reservoir when it looks low. Since they are on the verge of being overweight they dont get any treats, but they do like a piece of lettuce from time to time.
My cat just barfed up her dinner and is currently crying for more. NO! No more kittynibbles until an hour has passed and you haven’t passed barf! I can only deal with so many runny fluids a day.
Sarah it sounds like maybe your cat could use a hairball remedy like Petromalt. My longhair tabby gets a dose every month or he leaves unpleasant surprises for us.
The easiest remedy for hairballs I have ever found was just a little bit of petroleum jelly on the fingertip for my cat to lick off. I know it sounds weird, but it really worked. Just one dab, (as if you were tasting peanut butter) and they have absolutely no hair ball problems. When a friend told me about it I was skeptical, but my cats licked it right off when I offered it to them. This was a cheap and easy way to stop the hairballs.
Love Oliver, so cute. I know the feeling, since i have two. Trixie, so funny, my two cats take turns who sleeps with me, and they want attention when its my bedtime. sigh Do I bother them when they are sleeping. lol
Cat portions in my house are mouse-sized these days; I changed from full bowls after reading an article that explained their little-and-often metabolism. One pouch Is split among three, and we have no leftovers any more (dry food is always available).
That works fine for the two girls, but Slug (big, lazy, orange, gluttonous) is still managing to put on the pounds. I suspect a second home somewhere… He’s easily the best manipulator and somehow manages to convince even me that he’s starving despite the spare tyres and a vet who keeps murmuring “diet”.
Lol! Mine are exactly the same!!! Is he a Maine Coon too? Gorgeous!!!
He must have been a stray at one point; strays never seem to forget that hunger.
We took our cat in 12 years ago and she still acts as though every meal is her last.
You’re so right. Almost every cat I have was taken off the streets and they are always hungry. The exceptions are the siblings I got stuck with from a family friend, they eat when they’re hungry (self-feeding dry only, a few times a day & not one is overweight) and only cry for attention. For which they never, ever get enough.
Our cats are so fun to have around, but the constant begging and enticing everyone to feed them every few minutes is totally not so much fun! My Tom Blade does the same thing every day, you feed him and two seconds after he wolfs the last bite he wants to be fed again. According to him his is starving 24/7, according to my vet he needs to lose a few pounds every time he goes in for a checkup!
Oliver is a lucky boy, not only does he have his “human servants” in the crook of his paw but he has the run of the whole house to find willing minions to do his bidding. Smart cat, beautiful too!
Jackie B Central Texas recently posted..Starting new posting schedule this month.
we feed our cats dry food, in an automatic feeder. they go there several times a day for a nibble or two, when its empty theres anarchy. but it takes a while for them to get used to it, so when we first get a cat it gets really chubby and then it understands that theres almost always food and changes its eating habits
Oliver is adorable! He clearly has the family well-trained…..
Oh, cunning Oliver… I have two huskies and I firmly told everyone not to give them food if it’s out feeding schedule, but I myself can’t always resist those blue eyes…
I completely understand. My kitten totally freaks out if he can see the bottom of his bowl even if there are still a few pieces of kibble left inside. I don;t understand it.
Bwahaha! Silly boy. I see that he has his human minions well trained.
This sounds exactly like one of my furry friends. He will try and talk anyone and everyone into feeding him. We finally started measuring out a certain of food he gets each day in the morning and that is what he gets fed from.
Oliver is very clever. Not only does he know how to get all of you to feed him, he knows how to play for the camera. Seems like he has marked that spot on the bannister as his personal photo location. He’s a pretty cat.
Looking at Oliver’s contented face makes you wonder if he still remembers when he didn’t have a home. He looks so very happy there. So glad he’s fit into the family so well.
Though, I’m wondering whether Miss Salem has forgiven him for intruding.
lol, We once had the same thing happen with our dog. He was miserable by evening time, with an extremely full stomach before we realized what had happened.
My cats are on a feeding schedule, a serving in the morning and one in the evening while I’m cooking dinner. My Bengal has a rather finicky tummy, so treats are few and far between. Neither are really fat although my Bengal is a big boy! Now the bulldogs outside are another story. The male is lean and muscular, whlle the female is overweight and constantly begging for more food and treats.

Hahaha, so lik a cat. Shameless. ^_^
My old Kitty, Chili, came up diabetic at around age 10. Rather than go to insulin shots, I switched him (and the two other cats) to a food without grains. Cats are “obligate carnivores” meaning if left to their own devices they would only eat meat. Grains mess with their metabolisms.
It controlled his blood sugar, and lo, the other two cats slimmed down and have been very healthy. They control their own eating too. Look out, though, if any of the three food dishes isn’t topped up, that’s a criminal offense!
I can tell by looking at him that Oliver is abused and is terrified in his new home. Poor thing.
I agree w/ some of the other posters, tho, that if Oliver ever was abandoned or had to fend for himself, that could really affect his attitude towards food. I’ve taken in a number of strays over the years (some I’ve grabbed off the street or rescued out of dumpsters) and the trauma of never knowing where (or when) the next meal is coming from really has a lasting effect. They like the assurance of always seeing a plentiful (not just adequate) supply of food in the bowl; otherwise, they get very anxious and cry. One of mine used to wake me up, lead me to the kitchen, and “point” at his bowl if it even got just a little bit low. I just humor the little beggars and do as they demand.
My cat’s are fifteen years old. We (my sister Ana and I) decided they have Dementia. They are always begging for food and we feed them two to four times a day. We simply decided they are liars. so. we love yall.
One of my cats only wants to eat if there is a human in the kitchen and gets upset if he can’t get one when he wants one or if the human leaves without permission.
Please Sir….Can I have some more? *hehehehehe*
But Oliver is soo cute and fluffy and friendly *grin*
“Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.”
The cat I am staff for earned the name Kali.
*lol*
cat = king
you = servants
It’s like that in every household run by cats
That cat is so gorgeous – he deserves to be waited on paw and paw!

I apologize ahead if you already know this & this is not a preaching either, there is a school of thought that dry food (sounds like that’s what you feed him) is basically akin to cereal and feline as a species is carnivorous (sp?). Maybe the reason he eats so much, trying to get the protein out of the dry food. Having said that, my 4 cats like (aka demand by crying & rubbing) to eat every 8 hours as opposed to every 12 hours of getting can or raw food.
Once had the SAME problem with a pride of four in the house. We used to leave notes like “They’ve already been fed–they’re conning you!!!” if one of us was out when the other came home….
Our current cat-less house would be far more empty without our wee parrot…..
O, and I forgot to mention that we have also two horses who are MASTERS at this game!!
Can I say that a wily kitty would be a great companion to Grendel… maybe Julie wants a cat? One that thinks love he’s an alpha and tries to outstare Curran.
