Tired

I am tired this morning.  I took yesterday off, because I had ran dry and there are some extenuating family circumstances. Sadly it did very little to make me feel better.

The day is overcast.  The sky is grey and rain is sprinkling.  It’s a blasé kind of rain, very apathetic about making things wet or really even falling from the sky, which fits my mood perfectly.  I watered my plants, ran the dishwasher, made coffee.  I will feed the dogs in a minute and once I do that, I will officially have no excuses to not work.

There are days when you feel a little beaten up by life.  I feel like I’ve had about a year worth of those.  What’s up 2012?  I thought you were supposed to be better.

And now the dogs are fed.  There is no escape.  Well, at least I have coffee.  Coffee is supposed to make everything better.

  1. I blame it all on the time change! Takes me about a week to adjust.. blah…

  2. Some days are just crap and that’s all there is to it. I’m having one of those myself today, so see? You’re not alone. Now, where did I put my coffee cup…

2012 has been like that for me too! No real reason that I can see but I have spent a great deal of time holed up in my house reading. But, spring is springing, days are longer, there is more light and I hope to feel more energetic soon.
Maybe go out and take a walk before you get to work. Perhaps if you get the blood flowing the ideas will flow too! :)

PS. Grapefruit essential oil is a mood brightener — put some in a diffuser. Maybe it’ll help.

  4. Not sure if you’re a fan of the Diablo series, but Blizzard just announced that Diablo III is coming out May 15. Finally! Between the weather, work, and DST, I’m feeling rather bleh this week, too. Here’s hoping it improves for both of us!

  5. ((hugs))
I can say (from 17 years of hard learned experience) that the best thing you can do is make time every day for yourself to do something you love. Even if it means missing a little sleep. Even if its only ten minutes of down time from all the s**t. Every day, find the time to renew your reserves just a little …. it will help, even if just a little. Hope things get better for you soon.

  6. I’m sorry that things are going so poorly for you this year. If it helps, I just wanted you to tell you that I really enjoy your books. I am going through a divorce right now with an abusive ex, and I have a new baby, and re-reading your work gives me a lot of enjoyment and much-needed escape. There are very few books that I enjoy re-reading, but your work is so well crafted that I have read them many times. So, thank you.

    • I wish you and your baby the best of luck, Michelle, and really hope things get better for you SOON!

    • Thank you, Michele. I hope the divorce goes smoothly. There is silver lining to every cloud. Even if sometimes it is hard to see.

Michelle, please keep safe and hope all goes well for you. I know how you feel, Ilon’as books are a great comfort when I feel down.

  7. What is it about crappy weather that just makes bad days worse? We live west of you guys and the sun is shining here today with hardly a cloud in the sky, so here’s hoping that we can send some to you.

  8. I think that’s chocolate that makes everything better. You need some.

…….and chocolate, chocolate makes it all better too..

I think the time change doesn’t help. I’m tired too – and trying not to mind too much that the gal that we are hosting while she looks for a job just informed me that I am the cause of her current troubles. sigh…..

  15. Very sorry things have been crappy for your family. Your loyal readers understand. BTW, We have that EXACT SAME bird feeder in our yard in California!! As it gets “patina” the color will lighten. Enjoy it!

  16. Speaking of California; it’s doom and gloom here too. Yes we need the rain, but “BAMM” a whole week of it, non stop. That with the time change can put anyone under. Add to that any extenuating circumstances and you’ve got a recipe for “bah-hum-bug”. At least we can all bitch together, what is it they say – “misery loves company”?? Hang in there everyone, Spring is on its way!

  17. gozadragon says:

Coffee, coffee and MORE coffee! Hey, if you still feel like you are running dry you can at least have a nice caffeine buzz. I also agree that time change doesn’t help matters any!

  18. wasnt_serious says:

Right there with you…I just want to hide under the covers until the sun comes back out. Sadly the office doesn’t like that…

  19. I hope it is not your kid, and I am not prying. When I became a parent I discovered the thing most likely to throw me is anything wrong with my kid. Anything else, I can deal with.

My child has some challenges. When I start focusing too much on those challenges, I always try to remind myself to back up and look at the whole kid. My kid is pretty neat.

  20. The good thing about the weather is …….. you’re no longer in the NW so it’ll get better :-)

  21. I also think the time change plays havoc with our poor brains. And Spring Fever…. For some inspiration take a drive out to see the bluebonnets or stare at your new birdfeeder. Texas is on the Central Flyway so we get an amazing amount of birds that either live here are pass through. Do you have your hummingbird feeder up yet? They are awesome, inspiring little fliers.

  22. It is raining sideways today. 40 mph winds the other day. Snow on Monday. March is *roaring* around here.

The last time I hung a bird feeder, the rats found it. *shudder* Never again.

    Also…this post totally isn’t me procrastinating….

I thought it was sugar that made everything better?

Like others on the blog – I’m blaming the time change. It hit me really hard this time and I’m having issues adjusting. There just doesn’t seem to be enough tea to overcome the tiredness.

  25. It seems everyone around here is suffering from the time change tiredness as well.

Just remember, this too shall pass.

  27. Sometimes, there’s just not a reason. You just feel…meh.

Usually there IS a reason. More to do than you can get done, want to get done, you didn’t get enough done, worry about money, worry about kids (I have turned that last one into a full time job).

But sometimes, there’s just not a reason. On those days I clean the bathrooms. After that, I might still feel meh but at least the bathrooms are clean. Clorox therapy.

  28. if chocolate doesn’t help, pop some popcorn, you don’t have to eat it, just the smell will help.it’s the only thing to do if the sun is not shining.
if the sun is shining that is all you need.

  29. I just realized it’s March 15TH BEWARE TH IDES OF MARCH!!
    Everyone should just hide.

  30. NOno 2012 is the year of the apocalypse! So no matter what poo rains down we can all console ourselves that in December we’ll float up into space due to the poles switching. YAY! Something to look forward too, right?! Right!!

I beat the laundry back and the winter clothes away today. It required satanic rituals and goat sacrifices. But it’s done.

  32. At least there will be some poor wet and cold birds who will be fed today courtesy of that magnificent bird feeder :)

  33. I read somewhere this is supposed to be the tail end of the Kali Yuga and then we’ll start heading into a cycle of 10,000 years of happiness. It coincides with the end/new beginning of the Mayan cycle, so I just figure all the crazy of this year is the energy of one cycle wrapping up — kind of like frantic karmic house cleaning. The end result will be worth it, but the getting there is a bitch. My mantra has been “This, too, shall pass.”

  34. I hear ya. 2009 sucked. 2010 sucked. 2011 sucked. 2012 isn’t looking up. I keep telling myself things will turning around, but it hasn’t happened yet.

  35. This is totally unrelated to your post, but I was just looking at the Carina site–isn’t that the same woman on the cover Susan Edwards’ White Vengeance ebook as on your Silver Shark cover? Kinda freaked me when I saw her–”Hey, why does that woman look so darn familiar?”

Hope 2012 gets better for you. Have a cup of tea and look at the birdfeeder. Me? I’d kill to have a week of “normal” sleep–where I could get 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep during the standard nighttime hours (finally falling asleep at 5 AM wouldn’t count).

    • Yep, it is a generic stock photo. The only difference is that I processed ours very heavily. Their is pretty much as is. :)

Something that makes things better for me is I pull out my portable DVD player (or if you have an iPad, that works too) and put on a crackling fire in repeat mode. Every time I look at it I laugh a little because it’s so silly, yet I love having my own personal fire. It’s very soothing. And hilarious. And sweetly distracting away from bad things.

  37. I am SO right there with you. Exhausted from the time change, worn out from being a parent (even to my husband at times, darn it) and struggling with the pain of never-ending dental work. I almost cried on the way to work today for no reason at all. Thank goodness it is Friday and my kids are spending the night with their grandparents. I’m planning to go home and pull the covers over my head and not get up until they come home – messy house be damned!

  38. Oh ilona, I’m sending hugs from the UK. Don’t worry things will get better i went through a stage recently where it took all my will power to get out of bed and do the work that really needed doing and not to cry. Life likes to throw rubbish challenges in our direction from time to time as if we don’t have enough to worry about, at least the rain will make everything green and pleasant for spring.

    Love from the UK

  40. This comment is not intended to cheer you up, Ilona. You’ll do it, or you won’t. I am, however, trying to find out if Golden Casino will take a bet from me that you will, in fact, cheer up and become a whirling dervish of authorial madness, words flying from your fingers that are typing so fast that they can barely be seen. They want a time frame. Damn bookies.

  41. Prospero37 says:

Ilona, yeah sometimes kid issues, writing trials and bulldog farts can get you down, but there is also the love of your family, the golden joy when the writing comes together and sometimes cookies. Sadly there still can be bulldog farts. :)

  42. My friend had the same problem. She didn’t feel depressed, just tired and overwhelmed. Her doctor says she has SAD (Seasonal Affective Dissorder), I know, it sounds silly. We live in Tennessee, not Seattle and I was surprised by the diagnosis. He prescribed her no medication, but Light Therapy for 30 minutes each day, and ecouraged her on sunny days to get outside for at least 30 min.every day. Just thought I would share, you never know.
