Some of you have been wondering why there are no posts. I try not to talk about the family stuff, so very briefly, Gordon’s grandmother is in very poor health. It is not unexpected, because she is 91 years old. Like all families, our extended family has some drama, and in times of crisis, that drama escalates, especially because his uncle is in terrible health also and his aunt and the one cousin who actually deals with all of this are exhausted. So he will be flying to NC to do essential things that everyone else is too emotional to do, like speaking with the lawyer about Meemaw’s assets and preparing for the eventual funeral.
In United States, when an older person is hospitalized or is at an assisted living facility, Medicare will pay for their treatment once the personal funds run out, but they will come after every asset that elderly person has, including cars, personal items, houses and so on. If it can be ceased and sold, they will do it, and there is some confusion as to who exactly owns Meemaw’s cabin. On top of that, Meemaw has made funeral arrangements in another state, so as morbid as it is, we have to figure out how to get her body there when the time comes. We are not near this point yet, but some things have to be discussed.
Originally I was going to go with him, but between the animals, the kids, and deadlines, I will likely end up staying home. Kid 1 has a job that often keeps her late and Kid 2 must be up by 6:00 am and be delivered to the metro station shortly after. I wish I were going or that he wasn’t going. I do not have an good feeling about this trip, but it has to be done.
I’m hoping that his grandmother will have a moment of clarity and recognize him. That would be great.
On other hand, we are feverishly trying to finish Magic Shifts, because nobody want the release date to be bumped back and it is getting longer and longer, because we keep trying to stuff 200K words of story into 90K. That’s a lot to have on one plate and we likely won’t be doing anything to mark the mass market release of Magic Breaks besides a brief blog post. Sometimes you just have to prioritize.
So we are here. We’re just trying to get ourselves situated. Please bear with us. 🙂
