Quick announcement – we’re doing a live chat today.

LITERAL ADDICTION Web Event

I have new hair! It has red in it!  I wasn’t going to do it, because ti was pricy, but the whole family told me to go, so I did.  On the plus side as I was laying in the chair, with gloss setting on my hair, lights off and soothing music playing, I realized the reason why I was having trouble with my word count in the past couple of days.  I need to write a character out of these last three scenes.  On a minus side, I need to rewrite the last 3K.  Grrr!

I promised you a snippet.

Barabas stepped into his place and leaned against my desk, his arms folded over his chest.  “As your attorney, I am forced to advise you to stay away from that crime scene.  We both know you won’t, but if you get caught, there will be repercussions.”

“Thank you for the warning.” Now I had advice from both doctor and a lawyer. “I’ll definitely take it under consideration.”

I had to go back to the scene.  Everyone in the room knew it.

“Also, you won’t like hearing this, but as a lawyer, I’m used to that.  Your position with the Pack is muddy.  This makes things a hell of a lot more complicated than they have to be.  Sort yourself out.”

He was right.  I needed to carve out some time and settle things with Aunt B.

Barabas looked at Julie.  “Please get your bag.  We’re going back to the Keep.”

Julie crossed her arms.  “But…”

“Julia,” Barabas said calmly.  “Please get your bag.”

Julie stomped to the kitchen and returned with her backpack.

“Take Ascanio with you, too,” I told him.

Ascanio heaved a heavy sigh and went to stand by the door.  Julie stomped on his foot as she passed him and he elbowed her in the ribs.

“Call me if anything,” Barabas told me.

“Sure.”

A moment and both the lawyer and the doctor were gone and I was left alone in the office.  I barred the door, locked it, and pondered whether it was worth it to force myself upstairs to the bed or if I should just lay down on the nice comfortable wooden floor.  My dignity won.  I was a hardass, God damn it.  I could deal with nine stairs.  I would kick their ass.

I dragged myself to the upstairs cot and collapsed face down.  I meant to take off my shoes, but the world slipped through my fingers before I had a chance to lift my head from my pillow.

  2. mucho gracias for the snippet!!

A great way to start my afternoon. David’s in the Kitchen, a new snippet, then Jeaniene Frost’s new book and a snuggly blankie and sleepy puppies.. I’m all set for a couple of hours.

I also recently changed up my hair, went from my natural dark blonde hair to a rich deep red! Must be the change of the season …. I feel spicy!

  3. I am glad you did something for yourself…. sometimes we have to bite the bullet and dive in!! Thank you for the snippet!!! As always….. you ROCK!!!! Enjoy your day…… :-)

  4. Not much compares to getting your hair did!
Thank you, for the snippet, and the small escape into that world!

  5. I am also glad you took time for yourself! You deserve it!

  6. Thanks ever so much for the snippet! Loved it… as usual. :) Hope you have a great day!

  10. Love the snippet. My antenna is quivering. Doctor? There is but one, yes? So happy to know he’s in this story.

The little altercation between Julie and Ascanio made me laugh out loud. I love that Julie isn’t swooning over him. :)

  11. Awesome. :D

  12. I already love this book! Thanks for the snippet :)

  13. There must be something in the air. I got tired of feeling invisable so I went and had my short hair dyed copper red with a big blond swatch over my right eye. I can always blame senility. I couldn’t get into the live chat, but loved the Q & A.

  14. Thanks for the snippet! The relationship between Julie and Ascanio reminds me a little of Kate and Curran in Magic Bites. I’m not a big fan of love triangles but I confess I’m eager to know how this Derek|Julie|Ascanio “situation” will develop…

  15. Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait…you get the picture ;)

  16. Wooot! I like dyeing my hair red as well. And when you get a chance, I hope you will out up some photos!

I loved the snippet. Barabas is growing on me.

  17. Great chat you guys. I really enjoyed it.

  18. Thanks for the snippet!

  19. Isn’t there a chance Ascanio could break Julie’s ribs when he elbowed her? Kate would make him pay, though, so he probably held back.

REALLY, REALLY, REALLY looking forward to this book, and Christmas, of course.

P.S. When can we start strongly encouraging Gordon to write that POV thing?

  20. I keep thinking I”ll do my hair soon. There is an alarmingly large white streak making me a bit more skunk-like than I would prefer. It’s not gray it’s damned bright white. I just have to find the time to actually dye the hair…

    Loves the snippet! :)

  21. Oh bummers just missed the chat session,

  22. Oh no, I missed it! Will check out their website anyways. Congrats of new hair!

  23. I did a little self-gratification too and downloaded Silent Blade..and now I am going to have tea and cookies and reading..bliss

  24. Great Chat! Thank you!!!!

  25. What a great snippet! Thank you for sharing. Climbing stairs seems to be a reoccurring theme with these hardass girls.

  26. Love the snippet. Being male, as well as mostly bald, I don’t get the hair energizing bit, but whatever helps you create is great!

  27. Many thanks for the snippet!!

Glad to hear you’re pampering yourself. Sometime we all need that and it’s one of the first things we neglect to do in times of crisis.

  28. Love the snippet! Though I have to admit, it makes oh so curious as to why she’s so defeated.

I remember when you were not so happy with the last trip to the salon, so I’m glad you had a good time and enjoy your new look. :]

WAAAH yay for the new hair! Yay for the snippet!

Er, maybe it’s just me being stupid, but what’s the POV for the above? I assume it’s Kate but it could be possibly be Andrea too??? Overthinking this i am…

    • It’s Andrea, I believe. At least, it sounds like it’s in line with the last snippet, which was definitely Andrea.

  30. Mellykins53 says:

the tenson is rising….. i must say, i am now having dreams bout this new book.

OH, AND IS THERE GONNA BE A BOOK BOUT NICK?!?!?!?! CUZ I THINK HES A REALLY AWESOME CHARACTER AND DESERVES A BOOK!!!!!!!!!

  31. The Snippet is good. Tension about going back to the crime scene is building.

Good move on the hair, finally getting it the way you want it. Plus, it was a working session, since you realized you needed to remove a character from some scenes. Several birds with one stone: hair, relaxing, and writing stuff. Hard to beat that.

Didn’t check blog/mail early enough to catch the chat. Typical. I’ll check the site out tomorrow (today) and see what they have. Thanks.

  32. awesome snippet, thank you so much

  33. Vielen dank! Thank you! Cracias! I was all awww *heart*

  34. Loved it! Thanks Ilona.

  35. Thank you!

  36. Thank you for the snippet! It was just what I needed this cold, grey monday morning.

  37. Thank you for the snippet! :) Hope we get pics of the hair

  38. Sunscented says:

Thanks for the snippety goodness! Which book is this from? The one that comes after Andrea’s book? Is this one out in 2013? No pressure, just wondering.
    Hair pics please! :)

    • Sunscented says:

Ignore me, I answered my own question by looking at the release schedule- It’s from Andreas’s book. :)
For some reason, when I first read it I thought I was reading from Kate’s POV, which had me confused bc I couldn’t figure out what had happened between her & Aunt B and why she was in hot water w/ the Pack…again. All cleared up now tho! ;)
      Thanks again!

      • Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who was momentarily thrown by the POV. I’ve been momentarily thrown by a number of things today, tho–it’s definitely Monday!

  39. You have posted a snippet!
That is good news, so found time, quiteness and peace in you’re head to write again. We fans told you we will be waiting here :-)

Hope everything is better at home with you’re child.

    • o, and I forgotten to say… sometimes a hairdresser/colour treatment is a wonderful present to yourself. Love to see a pic how it is now.

  40. I hope the chat went well, I missed it. :(

  47. What book is this snippet from?

  48. This is crazy cool but a little weird. I am so used to Kate’s voice that having this come from Andrea is odd. I had to remind myself who was talking and for a quick moment I pictured Kate’s voice coming out of Andrea’s mouth. I think I need to go to bed now. LOL Thanks again for this!
