Kid 2 has to do some community service for her school. Typically this means Goodwill, but we made a choice to not support Goodwill. Instead she found a rabbit sanctuary in need of volunteers. Last Sunday I drove her to the neighboring town of Pflugerville to a nondescript building. We parked, stepped inside, and then there were bunnies. New Zealand bunnies, English bunnies, dwarf bunnies. All sort of bunnies. They have over two hundred rabbits. The volunteer supervisor let me wait for Kid 2 – mostly because she expected her to give up after an hour – and I had the best time writing with no wifi surrounded by bunnies. Kid 2 ended up doing 4.5 hours of work. I wrote for two hours and ended up with 2,500 words.
Clearly I’m more productive when there is no Internet, so I’m going to take a break for the next few weeks. On top of eating up time, having to check all of the social networks and come up with content for the blog creates a non-stop low-end pressure and I end up accomplishing less than I need to to meet our current deadlines.
We’re trying to have Innkeeper up every Friday, so I will be around on Fridays to post and read your comments, and I will be periodically checking my email. If it’s urgent for you to get a hold of me, please contact Susan at ilonaandrews.assistant at gmail.com. There might be some sporadic updates on the blog, but my hope is to go cold turkey until March or longer.
If you’re a friend, you have my phone number. If you are a friend and a beta reader, you have the professional email address.
In related news, due to family circumstances, Gordon and I will not be attending Romantic Times Convention this year. Nobody is dead or sick; we just have some kid-related college events and things that we have to take care of and they conflict with RT.
The audio of Magic Stars will be available today. Other than that, we have no urgent news or announcements. See you guys on Friday.
