Ideas are dime a dozen. Anybody got a dime?

Ideas are dime a dozen. Anybody got a dime?

We get a lot of emails asking for the “more.”  Will there be more Alphas?  Will there be more Kinsmen?  Can we get a continuation of Kozlov universe?  Will you write more Edge books?

We’re very grateful that you guys want more books.  :) So taking these one at a time:

The Edge – probably not.  There are many factors involved in that decision, and if the Edge comes back, it will come back as something new and probably independent or with a different publisher.  One of the problems with the Edge is that it has stronger romantic element.  It was meant to be a 50/50 blend, and while romance readers love it, UF readers are endlessly perplexed by the presence of romance in it.  I think if we come back to it, we’d need to rebrand it as more romance oriented, so it would hit the right demographic.  But right now – again because of the variety of factors – neither one of us wants to come back to it.  Honestly, when I think about doing another book, my gut reaction is “Ugh.”  Ugh doesn’t often result in a quality narrative.  :)

Kozlov/Alphas/Kinsmen – Short answer, not right now.  Longer answer: all these are our “other” titles.  Kate Daniels is our bread and butter right now.  Kinsmen – I totally wouldn’t mind coming back to this place, but neither of us has any ideas at the moment.  When you think about the world, it should be interesting and engaging, but right now it feels kind of inert, which means that we just don’t have an interesting hero or story.  It’s not catching.  If we did it, it would have to be dramatic.  Zorro on another planet.  Or James Bond on another planet.  Something dramatic and grand.  Right now I’ve got nothing.

I did play with a YA set in Alphas universe. I felt less constrained there, because I can do horrible things to characters and get away with it.  Gordon is thinking about it.  I’ve got about 10K of it.  I may continue it, because Kid 2 liked it, but it’s the kind of project that would require 100% from both of us, and right now we have Kate deadlines and Clean Sweep.

Gordon is working on Curran POVs.  Occasionally.  He is at a halfway point of the short story.  I’ve tried nagging and bribing, but so far no dice.

So sorry, guys.  Thank you so much for checking but right now our plates are full.  We will keep going with the Innkeeper.  And yes, Sean will be paying for the blackmail.

The reality of the business is that we will probably need to figure out some sort of second series to supplement our income, but whether it will be Clean Sweep, other independent projects, or some other new idea published through traditional channels, I can’t tell you.  I’m betting right now on the Innkeeper.  The numbers keep climbing and people seem to really like it.

Just wait until ___ shows up.  Hehehehe.  Poor Sean.

Inn Keeper – love it. Free or fee, I’ll keep reading it til it’s done.

I’ll miss the Edge. So many more things I want to learn about the characters. Never considered it anything other than a series with it’s feet firmly in UF & PNR. Boggles that anyone ever thought otherwise or is surprised by the fusion of the two elements. Bring it back if/when you all are ready.

Looking forward to the next Kate, too & I’ll miss it for the same reasons when it’s done.

Never really cared for the Alphas etc. from a flavor standpoint.

Please never write unless you’re feeling it. It’s terribly sad when author(s) feel compelled to write w/o the passion of telling a story. Yes, writing has slog spots, but soulless slog isn’t fun or profitable for authors or fans.

Thank you for the insights of writing :)

  2. I know I’m one that asks for more, but only because I love the stories. Whatever you write, I’ll be reading it! :D

I can’t wait for __, and what that will do to Sean. :)

    THank yo for more Innkeeper!

  3. I love the Kate Daniels series, and the Curran shorts are awesome. I’d love to read about Kate in battle from Curran POV. Like, in the battle against Morfran, during the magic flare. Or when she did that “thing” with Julie at the end of Magic Slays.

You guys have awesome ideas. Heck, I’m still hoping you do something with the Emma and Russian Magical Mafia guy thing you posted about quite awhile ago (years now? time flies.). Or Thumper. Yep, I still remember both those bits, b/c you have both awesome ideas, and awesome talent in writing. :) So, while I’m sad about no more (adult) alphas, I’m ok with you moving on to new ideas too. And I love clean sweep!

  5. Just a quick thank you for turning me onto Meljean Brook. I was fast running out of authors. The local bookstore didn’t have Riveted (ordered online), but they did have The Iron Duke. Not even in 100 pages and I’m hooked. Thank you again.

My daughter read the Julie story and loved it. I wondered if you have considered a YA with her?

  7. I have to admit that I’m glad you’re focusing on Kate and the Innkeeper series, because those are my favorites. I like the Edge series, but I LURVE Kate and her world. Even though I was able to download the Curran POVs for free on my Sony eReader, I just got an Amazon Kindle Fire so I paid for them and also got Magic Graves. I’m eagerly awaiting the opportunity to buy the Innkeeper Chronicles, because I don’t want y’all to ever have to get a non-writing job. Also, despite being old enough to be a grandmother, I also read YA and would love to hear more about Julie and the special snowflakes at Seven Star Academy.

I’m more a fan of UF than PN, but I liked how Kate and Curran’s relationship evolved. Her date with Max Crest enabled us to see what kind of thought Kate has to give to being involved in any kind of relationships. Kate and Curran both had a lot of emotional baggage and that made them both more realistic. Their interactions with each other can be funny, poignant or romantic, which is what real relationships are like.

  8. I love both your main series: Kate Daniels and The Edge. Granted The Edge does have a bit more romance in it, but series are supposed to be different from one another. It would be kinda boring if all the different series an author writes are all alike, wouldn’t it? Personally, I don’t see what’s wrong with keeping both if the two of you are inclined to write it.

There are several examples I could name of authors where I love a series they write, but don’t like a different series by the same author. There are also those series which started out in one genre and migrated over to a completely different genre over time. (Trying really hard here not to give specifics in order not to offend anyone).

All that said, write what fulfills you as an author. The two of you are great story tellers, and I can see you care about the characters you write about. I’m just grateful you choose to share those stories with the rest of us.

  9. Too bad. I don’t like Kate but loved the Edge series. Best of luck.

  10. Oh, Boy! Another Curran POV would be great! Something else to look foward too.

  11. Bummers! I love the Edge series and am looking forward to the last instalment so. On the bright side – does this mean more Kate????

  12. I love both Kate and the Edge series and am sad that the Edge is coming to an end. The Edge was one of the few series which IMO successfully blended the UF and romance elements and the world-building was superb. Having said that, if it’s a struggle to write, then not doing so is the best idea (nothing worse than banging your heads against the wall over something you are not enjoying). I hope you decide to come back to it after a break, but if not, I look forward to seeing what you come up with in addition/after Kate is finished.

  13. I like the Edge series, but I LOVE the Kate Daniels series. I have not yet read Innkeepers, but I’m looking forward to the experience. I have liked everything I’ve read from you guys so far, and I guess now it’s because you only write what you feel like writing. I hate when a good author feels compelled to write a story they don’t feel… you can usually tell. That said, I have truly enjoyed the Kinsmen universe, and when you do pick up a pen for those characters, I will be purchasing :) Keep us posted, and I’ll keep giving your name to other readers. Thanks for letting your readers keep in touch with you.

  14. I have a hard time reading a series and waiting for the next book. I generally can’t reread a book more than once a year. With your stories (all of them) I can reread them every week. I generally read a book a day, and your stories are my first choice. I am not familiar with Alphas, but would like to be and am now reading your site like an addict. No matter what you guys do, I will be reading it.

  15. I loved Kate Daniels, Kinsman, and clean sweep, but the edge has always been difficult for me don’t know why. I usually read books like Kate Daniels in about a day same with Kinsman. ( just retread entire Kate series in 3 days ;) . The Edge books take me longer I like them but they just seem to be slow reads. Have read book one and two have book 3 floating around in my room but haven’t read it yet.
