Looking for Betas

UPDATE: COMMENTS ARE NOW LOCKED, BECAUSE WE HAVE TO PICK SOMEBODY.

Wanted: three to five betas for the rough draft of Silver Shark, length of 33, 881 words.

What’s in the manuscript: psychics with deadly powers, biological internet, clash of cultures.

Manuscript is in a rough draft, as in just finished, and will contain mutating names and other silly stuff.  I will be looking mainly for the feedback along the lines of “confused here” and “liked this” and “didn’t like that.” Absolute discretion is a must: if you are chosen as a beta, and you share the manuscript with someone, I will most likely drive to your house and cut your heart out with a spoon.  You will be needing lawyers, guns and money. :)

Preference will be given to past betas; however, I’d like to save at least one spot for someone new. Also, I’d love to get someone who does read SF and someone who doesn’t to check the accessibility of the narrative.

If you want to give this torture a shot, comment here, and we’ll random generator  or pick someone by tomorrow morning.

PS.  No, I am not kidding about the spoon.

I would love to be your beta. I am a fast reader so that if you send me something you would hear back quickly i beta for a few people who snicker at how fast i get back to them if i know i am getting it. I also have my very own copy of scrivner now which has some cool betaish features

I would be interested in being a beta reader for your new manuscript. I read lots of books in the Fantasy/Sci-Fi genre so have an idea of the “typical” novel. On the other hand, I have only betaed video games before, so doing it for a book would be new.

Thanks for the opportunity to try out :)

Oh, and I live in the area, so you COULD come by and cut me with that spoon…wait, is that a good thing?

It’d be interesting to be a Beta reader.
I’m quite a fast reader and have an obsession with correcting things when I notice them.
I’ve sometimes read a SF book but as of lately have stuck to reading Paranormal & Thrillers. It’s just hard to find a decent SF book that pulls you in right away.

I love a good sci-fi adventure/romance – David Weber is one of my favourite sci-fi authors. Please add me to the list for consideration as a beta for this novel. Thankyou

I’m not signing up to beta (I don’t have time right now, unfortunately), but I did want to say congratulations on finishing the rough draft!

After reading the snippet you posted, I’m excited to get my hands on the rest. I can’t wait for you to release it.

I’d enjoy beta’ing for you. I’ve a deft hand with the red pen as a Language Arts teacher. I read everything except Westerns. Although lately I’ve only been reading Bear Wants More, Little Green, Ollie, Goodnight Moon, and other baby books we snagged at the library. I could use a more adult theme… and sentence structure!

PS. I’m going to Dragon Con in Septemeber, it’s in Atlanta Georgia, my first time, don’t know if you’ve heard of it but it’s looking really cool. You might want to check it out :) .

Nope, I don’t want to be a beta since some of my critiques of things involve complex hand gestures and inarticulate grunting. However, I am impressed that you have written this puppy so quickly. The taste of it that you posted was choice.

Do you know why you use a spoon when you cut someone’s heart out? Because it hurts worse than a knife. :-)

The “lawyers, guns and money comment” is a t-shirt in the making. I think that should be my project for this weekend.

I read anything speculative, from sci-fi to high fantasy to paranormal romance, so long as it has an element of odd. I’ve critiqued for published authors previously, one of which is a USA Today bestseller. I’d be delighted to take a look at your work.
