We are home from the tour. I see you guys have been busy. Let us begin. Spoilers below. Read at your own risk. 🙂

Why didn’t Rogan levitate his vehicle over the children?
Because, as explained in Burn For Me, he can’t levitate people. His magic doesn’t work on biological threats and levitation requires specific mages. Had he tried to levitate the car with him and Nevada in it, he would’ve turned them both into human hamburger.
But earlier Rogan levitated a car to move it out of the monster’s way…
No, he didn’t. 🙂
“A car raced down Miriam Street and fishtailed, trying to avoid the potholes. Rogan waved his hand and the vehicle swerved left, out of the invisible apparition’s way.”
Andrews, Ilona. White Hot: A Hidden Legacy Novel (Kindle Locations 4874-4875). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.
He nudged it, forcing it to turn.
Why didn’t Rogan use his magic in the cistern to break the walls and pummel the bad guy with it?
You guys read the book really fast, huh? 😉
After teleportation, Rogan and Nevada landed in the arcane circle. Had they tried to exit it, it would’ve knocked them unconscious. See Rogan POV for details on arcane circles. Had Rogan attempted to use telekinesis, nothing would’ve happened.
The boundary of the circle is where our physical reality meets the arcane realm, the ‘place’ where we reach to get swarms for swarmers, for example. It’s a small hole in our space. Nothing can penetrate the circle while the null space is active. You can stand on the street and lob grenades at Pierce, and they’ll just bounce off.”
Andrews, Ilona. Burn for Me: A Hidden Legacy Novel (p. 190). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.
The pavement just outside Adam’s circle had turned dark and soft. He was melting the road. I jumped out of the car. Heat bathed me, blocking my way like a wall. A car door clanged as Mad Rogan leaped out of the vehicle. A metal pole holding up a streetlight snapped in half and flew like a spear toward Adam Pierce. The pole hit the circle and ricocheted, spinning back at us through the air. I gulped.
The pole reversed and punched the invisible boundary of Adam’s magic circle, grinding against it. Mad Rogan grimaced. The pole clattered to the pavement. “Null space,” he said. “Come on.”
Andrews, Ilona. Burn for Me: A Hidden Legacy Novel (p. 191). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.
Rogan has two types of magic: his regular telekinesis and his supermove, which earned him all of his fun nicknames. Because arcane circle Howling drew created null space, Rogan’s telekinesis wouldn’t work. The null space cut them off from the rest of the reality.
Rogan stroked my back. The harsh expression on his face told me everything I needed to know. We were trapped. The inner boundary of our circle cut us off from the rest of the world and from David.
Andrews, Ilona. White Hot: A Hidden Legacy Novel (Kindle Locations 4974-4975). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.
This left only the supermove, during which Rogan acts as a conduit between himself and Astral Realm. He can initiate the sequence, but he can’t control it, which is why in Burn For Me the following exchange takes place.
“Stop him!” the man screamed.
“He can’t be stopped,” the original woman howled over the roar of the falling buildings. “He can’t hear us or see us! We have to wait it out!”
Andrews, Ilona. Burn for Me: A Hidden Legacy Novel (pp. 50-51). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.
He will literally go until his magical reserve is drained. He doesn’t even know it’s happening. Because of the special nature of this magic, the entirety of the circle no longer exists in our world.
When Rogan used the magic that made him the Butcher of Merida, it didn’t just generate a null field. It punched a hole in reality. Nothing could touch him within that circle, but his power would pierce straight through the rock and the campus above us. The first pulse of his magic would crumble the ground above us, and the next would trigger a collapse. Even if I managed to stop Rogan again, as I had done before, by the time we were done, the campus would be in ruins, partially buried, and the waters of Buffalo Bayou rushing into the depression would drown the survivors. We would survive. Nobody else would make it.
Andrews, Ilona. White Hot: A Hidden Legacy Novel (Kindle Locations 4960-4965). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.
As David so eloquently explained, had Rogan used his superpower, he would’ve broken through David’s circle but also destroyed the college above them, killing thousands of students. Rogan sacrificed himself to save Nevada and everyone above the cistern.
Why do Bern and Leon have the last name Baylor?
They were legally adopted by Nevada’s father and mother.
What about bonding?
Bonding only occurs among animal mages.
Is there discrepancy in Augustine’s middle name?
Nope.
But in Burn For Me Nevada sees a note marked ASM and says it’s Augustine Something Montgomery.
Nevada sucks at reading cursive and Augustine does deeply hate his middle name, so it’s not exactly the most legible scribble. 😛
How can EG (Evil Grandmother) remain member of the House Tremaine if she is the only Prime alive?
“Question!” Leon said. “If she is the only Prime, how can she still be a House?”
“Every time a new Prime is registered, the Office of Records checks to see if the family has two Primes,” Catalina said. “If there are two living Primes, the family is recertified as a House. They don’t take away the family’s rank until the last Prime alive at the last certification dies.”
Wildfire
Who is Caesar?
Nice try.
What does dual mean?
Dual is used to describe someone who has a secondary magical talent unrelated to his or her primary magic. Quite a few Primes are dual, like Rogan, for example. Usually the secondary talent is much weaker than primary one, but it’s considered to be a desirable trait.
What does Arabella’s magic–
Really, now. Wildfire is less than 60 days away.
Will there be more than three books?
It depends on sales. There was a significant break between the releases and paranormal/UF is in decline, so the deck is stacked against it. We’ll know next week, when the first sales numbers come in, if this series is alive or dead.
But…
If the sales numbers suck and the publisher will not want more books, we will still write at least one more and self-publish. We won’t leave you hanging. 🙂 That’s all for now. Very tired.

Awesome!!!! Thank you, and can’t wait! I hope you enjoy your well-earned relaxation! I loved White Hot!
So Wildfire doesn’t wrap up the three books?
I’m reading that comment in that we all want much more so the fourth book would give us more about all the other players, but I have every confidence that WF will wrap up the Caesar problem.
It finishes a plot arc.
Love this series but then again I love all your books!!! I drove to Houston last year and finally met you and your husband!!! Can’t wait until July for the next book
Ooh, that’s not a direct answer. The supreme author lords are sneaky.
So the question becomes which plot arc(s) will you resolve? 1) Discovering/stopping Caesar, 2) Thwarting E.G., 3) Nevada & Rogan get hitched/join houses, or 4) some combo of the previous or an arc I’m too blind to pick out. ☄️
Awesome. 🙂 I’m looking forward to more in the future. I rather like the setting.
Thanks.
Boy, do I love this series. Granted, I love everything you all do, but I just love this family.
I can’t believe the sales will be anything other than stellar. These books are amazing!!
I wholeheartedly second that.
If everyone else is like me, they’ve already purchased book 3 and are eagerly awaiting its arrival in the mail. Hopefully the sales numbers will be spectacular, because I’d love to see this continue for another 10,20,or 30 books.
I have a question (once you’ve rested!) about joining houses. If the Baylors are their own house, how does joining with Rogan’s house work? She would still count as a prime in her own house if they marry, not Rogan’s right?
Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a fantastic novel and for bringing such an amazing world alive for us.
They wouldn’t join House Rogan. They could ally with House Rogan, or become a vassal House, but all that bnrings its own set of problems. More in Wildfire.
Ooooo…..wondered about that. Thanks for the answer.
Thank you! Great book, as always you all deliver
Thank You
Thank you! Thank you! And here’s praying that the retail gods are kind and sales go way up. I’d run out and buy another copy if that helps!!
I bought one in Nook and one in Kindle and am seriously considering one in paperback, so that I can possibly get it signed. I love all of your works and have multiples of several. This series is really resonating with me and I also love, love, love the Baylor family. It’s got some of your best family dynamics, yet. I’m feeling very happy about Wildfire’s impending release in less than 2 months! Thank you!
I bought it on nook and in paperback!
I bought it on kindle and in paperback and have just started listening to Renee read the audiobook!
I am a rereader of favourite books and really love that the story is exciting, the romance is great and the world building is awesome. No wonder there are 1000 plus comments on the spoiler discussion.
Nook and paperback for me. I can read e-books but my sister has issues with blue light from computer screens. And she really wants to read about ninja ferrets.
We’re not worthy, authorlords…..thank you for yet another amazing read….
You guys are amazing. Thank you.
Loved it, can’t wait to read more!
Yay! Thanks for answering! I hope the sales are good.
Your consistency in world-building is one of the many things that I admire and appreciate about your writing. I also appreciate you two providing these answers for us when you have just come off a promotion tour. Thank you so much!
Ditto to this! Said it so much better than I can! Also, giggling at the “Less than 60 days away comment”. As I try to speed up time 😉
Nice try comment killed me here.
Honestly, ferrets, amazing, suspense and laugh out loud, create scene on commute to work humour. Loved every page, have ordered all three but would love more…always!
What happened to Bern & Leon’s parents?
Confused about what took place for Evil Grandmother to be Nevada’s grandmother. Can you please
clarify?
Yes, I can. Wildfire.
Lol, can’t wait.
I’m very sad to hear that UF/PNR is on the decline as it’s my favored genre. I’m glad you guys are persevering. ?
Me too! It’s my favorite! ?
Mine too! If a book is so beautifully written, why wouldn’t you want more?
Glad you’re home safe. I’m certain all the furries are now shunning you because of cruel and unusual feline/canine abandonment. Thanks for the wonderful read.
??? Oh there is nothing quite like a displeased cat. I ink the older the cat the longer they give you a view of their back.
No joke, mine is pissed at me atm. I got home from work 2 hours ago to find my A/C was out and it was hot. So I packed her and a bag up and we went to my folks place to be cool. She is very displeased with me over getting packed up and moved in the middle of the night, who cares if the A/C is working or not?
IKR? Sophia used to follow me from room to room and then turn her back on me very ostentatiously so I would KNOW that I had sinned.
Thank you so much for taking time to answer questions!!
Well, yes, 60 days is too long! 😀
LOVE that you’ll self-published a fourth!! Though I really hope sales are awesome as I’d love to see much much more of this universe!
Thank you!!
Really hoping for great sales!!! Loved the book.
Fantastic!! Thank you so much for the answers and the hope for more books. This is the news I’ll end my night on, rather than the horrible news from London. This exhausted Brit thanks you for making her smile, and is finally heading to bed.
PS, the book was fantastic! Me and my 2 besties agree. We’re so excited for book 3, but 60 days seems so far away!! And 2 more words…ferret heist! ??
It was great to meet you guys in Portland and to hear you talk about your books, and writing in general. When Ilona talked about Benedict Jacka, I realized that I had bought and read the first Alex Varus book years ago, liked it, but then the series had fallen off my radar. I’m now listening to the Audible version (amazing narrator!) and enjoying it. Thanks for the recommendation!
I tore through White Hot on release night, and then listened to the audiobook after. Not only did Renee Raudman outdo herself, but I picked up on a number of details and plot points that I had missed in my speed-reading. If I can, I’m going to try to just listen to the audiobook of Wildfire first when it’s released, and prolong the enjoyment, rather than devour the Kindle version and miss stuff because it’s 3 a.m. and I really need to go to sleep but I have to finish it there’s nowhere to stop OMG it’s so good just one more chapter…
Get some rest, enjoy yourselves. You guys are awesome.
Thank you so much for answering some of our head scratchers! Can’t wait for Wildfire!
First, Thank you for such a fabulous book. Also, for answering all these questions after your exhausting travel. You are so good to us. I’m sure the news next week will be all you hoped for on the sales. This book, this world of Nevada and Rogan are a fine succession to the Kate books. I hope you’re proud.
Please, go rest.
You and your books are all that and a bag of chips. With a milkshake topped with whipped cream and a cherry. And a side of bacon. Because bacon is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Thank you for all of your wonderful universes and the amazing stories you tell with such charm and grace and imagination. And imagery. Awesome sauce!
“Bacon is proof that God loves us”. If you don’t mind I’m going to steal that….
Thank you so much!
Are you willing to reveal Bern and Leon’s level of magic (eg minor, average, notable, etc) or is that a spoiler for a future book?
I really hope Augustine gets his own book. He’s my favorite secondary character and I’m dying to know why he hates the name “Julien.”
Wildfire.
I *knew* you were going to say that. So excited that it’s only two months away!
Since Augustine has thawed out a bit since BFM, I’m more interested in him. Especially with the personal background Rogan shared with Nevada. I’m curious as to why he hasn’t married. Is he too self-conscious to reveal himself minus all the glamour? I hope this is revealed in WIldfire.
Yeah, I could go with an Augustine book. Though I expect he will be personally jealous, not just professionally, toward Rogan when Rogan ends up with Nevada.
I loved the book and very excited about the series. I can’t wait for Wildfire. ????
I loved seeing y’all in Portland. Drove 2.5 hours to see you and it was totally worth it. Loved seeing you and Gordon’s wit and banter. I absolutely adore and love all you write and appreciate you coming out to meet fans!!!
Get some well deserved rest!!
Ditto on seeing you in MI! It was my first time going to an author event and I enjoyed hearing you and Gordon reflect and answer questions. I wanted to ask you, both, at what point you decided that writing together was more successful and satisfying than writing as individuals?
I really enjoyed WH and agreed with all your answers to reader questions. I love how the magical talents are being revealed in the younger characters and Catalina’s storytime had me cracking up out loud. I still don’t trust Augustine and keep waiting for him to reveal he’s playing for the bad guys.
You guys are awesome!
That is all.
Loved it! pre-ordered Wildfire today 🙂
Absolutely loved both books and have preordered the next.
I’ve read it twice since yesterday….60 days seems so far away! Loved, loved, loved, loved, loved, loved it!!!! Did I mention how much I loved it? You guys ROCK, thank you so much for everything you do!
“paranormal/UF is in decline” – I didn’t know that, though, of course, there is no reason that I would, as I am a consumer, not an author. But I’m curious- is it just PN/UF, or are there other genres fading as well?
Ya’ll are great! I love the plot, the humor, the whole thing!! Keep up the great work!!!
Thank you thank you, the only thing that would make this better is a really long snippet of Wildfire 😉
What all your fans said. Plus a double scoop of Awesome Sauce. ?
Thank you!!!! White Hot was awesome! More Rogan POV would be awesomer. ?
I tried to order wildfire, and Amazon said that I’d already ordered it, but it isn’t showing up in my que at all. So, if it doesn’t appear on schedule, I’ll re-buy it.
Aaannnnd, now I have a dilemma. If you self-publish, I’ll probably have the 4th book in my claws sooner. But it’s better for you for sales to be awesome and the publisher to want a fourth. But then I’ll have to wait. FOREVER. Crap.
Thank you for being so engaged with your hoard!
Had that same problem. I reordered about 12 noon on the 30th. Not sure if Amazon’s restructuring of lists had something to do with it or not. So annoyed at new (lack of choice in) filters and sorts.
I had this totally surreal experience a couple years ago with a john Sanford novel where I pre-ordered it as soon as I could. and then one day, it was in my kindle. oh, the joy! gobbled the book down, then reread the last few, then went to read new one again and it was gone. I was frantic. when I went back to amazon, the publication date was over a month out. could NOT figure out wtf happened, but on the publication date, it was back. so I don’t know if it was accidently released, they released their mistake, and yanked it back or if I hallucinated the stupid thing. I tend to think not hallucinated since I knew the ending when it reappeared, but it did make me doubt my sanity for a bit.
Thank you for your answers!! I’m doing my share, with two copies of BFM (one paper, one kindle), one each of WH and Wildfire (so far!). Love your books.
I pre-ordered Wildfire already and wrote a review of White Hot on Amazon. I really hope it does well! I really really LOVE the world of Hidden Legacy and could see the potential to expand the series to include books on the other Houses (I’m super interested in Augustine’s story myself). So glad that there will at least be a fourth book.
I loved White Hot and can’t wait for Wildfire, but I nearly had a heart attack at the end of White Hot when the Wildfire snippet said it is “Available August 2017.” I had to rush to my Amazon account to verify that the release date for them was July. 🙂
Thank you for your time and this wonderful series.
I was just checking Amazon and White Hot is best seller in ‘Paranormal Ghost Romance’. I don’t remember any ghosts, but hey, ‘Best Seller’! Congrats.
Thank you!!
Thank you for the great books! Rest and enjoy some time off!
Well, you’re still listed as a best seller by Amazon, with ranks of 1, 4, and 5. And your author rank is #7 in paranormal books, so I’m thinking sales are looking good.
It will be interesting to see when the New York Times bestselling list comes out. Fingers crossed that they are either number 1 or in the top five.
Thanks for another fantastic book! I read it twice back to back and then after wading through the first 800 comments in the “spoiler post” I’m reading it for a third time. I love that Wildfire comes out on my birthday AND the same day I have a long plane trip needing reading material AND as I learned with White Hot, apparently iBooks releases at midnight Eastern time…and I live in Pacific time. Woo-hoo!
I know exactly who Caesar is. I knew the first time the name was used.
Spill!!!???
You think it’s Augustine Julian… I beg to differ – too obvious.
Thanks for answering what’re probably the most FAQs by Hidden Legacy fans. Loved White Hot! Looking forward to Wildfire.
Thanks for being so responsive! Despite your fatigue, you took time to answer some questions — with your signature humor!! The one good thing about being sick this week is that it allowed me to borrow in and read White Hot in 24 hours. After waiting 2 years, you can bet we devoured it!!
Love that you opened the Spoiler post — was so much fun to read the different theories.
Thanks thanks thanks — can hardly wait until July 25th!!!
Thank you! Thank you for sharing your immense talent and for being good people. It’s gratifying to support authors who are kind and care for their fans … and have a fabulous sense of humor. Now counting down to Wildfire!
Thank you from the bottom of my very happy heart for such wonderful stories!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
I am sorry to have missed you guys in Portland this time but I so excited that Wildfire will be out so soon!!
You guys are so great and I’m so happy and thankful to have you in my life, can’t wait for wildfire, hope sales are really good
Thank you for another fantastic book. I suspect you must have had a good giggle when reading the discussion thread. I also suspect you must have had quite a bit of fun just writing “Wildfire” as he answer to numerous questions here. ?
As to reading White Hot, unfortunately I somehow had the release date wrong and I thought that it was a day later. Once I realised it had downloaded onto my kindle I had to politely suffer through previously agreed commitments whilst all I wanted to do was turn off the world and read. I blame the time and date difference between Australia and the US. It will not happen on July 25!
I hope we have the chance for many more books beyond Wildfire. I love this series. Well, I’ve loved all your series, but this is my current favourite. Perhaps that will change again when KD10 releases.
Ummm, can I just say I love you guys, and I’m so glad I waited to post my questions, cause you answered every single one (I’m a speed reading demon and miss important stuffs all the times :p).
Seriously, thank you. This was an amazing book, and I can’t wait for Wildfire!
Hey, fellow speed reader! I tend to “gulp down” favorite books too, so end up buying the Audible versions, and it’s almost like reading a new book!
Yay! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Love you guys! Very sad I couldn’t make it see you in Woodstock for this release. Thank you for being so much fun!
“We won’t leave you hanging. ?” And that’s why you guys are THE BEST!
The book was amazing. I have read it twice already and can’t wait for Wildfire!!!
I was wondering about the pending moderation. Thanks for letting us know. I live in Japan but on a U.S. base with a wonky IP address so I guess my comments will always be in moderation.
Rest up from the tour. You guys gave us a great book, cant wait for the next one.
Loved the book. Thank you!
I agree! Loved the book! I told everyone I could think of! I too hope it does well not only for your readers but for you all too!!! Hope you both have a wonderful rest.?
As always, thank you for answering questions from fans! Fingers crossed that the sales numbers are good so the series can continue beyond one book after Wildfire. Would love to keep reading more from this world.?
The book is awesome. I have already read it twice, now to go back and reread BFM, then WH.
I am thinking that my younger sister needs to get a copy of this series for her birthday this year. 🙂
Sorry I missed you in Portland this year-had other commitments-darn it! Loved the book! A+ all the way! Can’t wait for the next one! Your world building & character development is amazing! Thanks for the great read!
Thanks
Love you books I hope the numbers are good not just for more in the series but so you know you are acknowledged. Loved the audio book she really brings the charioteers to life. Got the E book as well so. Can go back and read parts Can’t wait till end of July
Thank you for all the answers! Another book would be great, that’s the consensus. If I may make a request, please finalize Nevada’s and Rogan’s relationship in WF, don’t leave us hanging /begging with puppy eyes/.
I hope this series goes on forever. I may even like it more than the Kate Daniels series. But they’re both so awesome and offer different things so it’s close.
I think I know who Caesar is! He showed up just briefly in White Hot, but from the way he was described, I could see why his followers would consider him “above reproach.”
It is not a proper question, but I am wondering if Mrs. Rogan is going to appear in third book. And what she is like. Connor talks about her way more than about his father and she is still alive, if away. I am curious what attidute would she show toward N and C relationship.
I’m curious about Rogans mom too. I hope she makes an appearance.
i’m re-reading bfm now, and his mom always referred to in the past tense, so I thought she was dead. Now she’s present tense. Did you mean for her to be dead?
The past tense may have been used because I don’t think Connor interacts with her much. She is apparently not interested in House business, whatever it was before Connor took over.
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions 🙂 25th July seems an awfully long time away 🙁
At least one more self-published? Yay.
But these sales might suck? Let’s all hope they soar instead.
Thank you thank you thank you…
I hope the sales are so good that we get numerous books
Damn it, i am not sure if you self-publishing the next book wont be better. I mean, cover, really? My eyes are weeping. Anyway, on the other hand, self-publishing is tricky and not easy and so i am seriously considering buying more of your book with intention of gifting it to all my friends. Or just buy a lot of them. I am sure human can live a few weeks from the air and sunshine and the happy feeling i willl have from the stack of your books. And the tiny chance there will be another sequel. 😀
Love white hot and i am so happy wildfire is practically knocking on the door. :))
I was not crazy about Burn for Me. It was good, but my opinion at the time put it somewhere below both the KD and Innkeeper series. But White Hot was _fantastic_. Can’t wait for more fantastic. Suddenly invested fantastic. I hope we have the opportunity to learn more about this world. Using the cistern was a nice touch. Not sure why it was Miriam rather than Milam street, but it didn’t bug me much.
We try to make up at least one or two streets to keep illusion of fictional setting and so we won’t get sued. 😛
Smart…..very smart. 😀
Loved White Hot! Thanks for answering questions. I enjoy the realistic development of a relationships in your books. Your world building & character development is fantastic ! Thanks for the great read! I hope the sales are great, I’d love to read more in this universe. I’ll be hoping you self publish, I’m not forgiving Avon for the forced long wait between books. But glad to for the quick release between the last two books.
I have a questions. Since reading Burn for Me, I was wondering if it’s possible for two (or more) people to work magic in the same circle? Or boast someone’s power? In WH, Rogan worked his own magic inside someone else’s circle. Is it possible for Rogan and Nevada or Nevada and her sister to work within the same circle? This is triggering my potential for butt kicking curiosity and shouldn’t be spoilery ?
Theoretically yes. Arcane circles channel the user’s power so there could be a way for two people to power the same circle, provided the circle separated them enough.
You guys are awesome! Thank you!
Thank you
Thank you! You inspired me to do a couple of Italian finger-kisses in the direction of the screen. An answer for everything! *happy sigh* Now to go and plug White Hot so Avon gives you another advance…
Thank you!
I don’t really make comments online and I’ve certainly never commented on an author’s blog before. However, I was compelled to because last week I read ‘Burn for Me’ and ‘White Hot’ and i think you’ve put done yourselves. Congratulations! If the sales suck you can blame that on your publisher for not marketing it correctly!!! These would make awesome movies! I don’t know why Hollywood keeps writing lame blockbuster scripts when there are so many awesome stories available in Fantasy.
Thank you
Agreed!
I blame the covers.
The books are amazing. The world building is fantastic. The storytelling is compelling.
The covers are…off putting.
Agree!!!!!!! The HL series front covers are….meh. Sadly the inside cover photo on each book (with no people) is better.
Did Avon do ANY marketing for White Hot?
Someone should let y’all know how flipping awesome y’all are. Just back home, exhausted, and you answer the Book Devouring Horde’s questions complete with references. Sigh. We love y’all. Now get some rest.
Yes, this. Thank you for being so good to your readers when you are just off an exhausting tour. And for another outstanding book. I’ve read it twice now and I just marvel at the complexity of your characters and plots! I hope Avon realizes the potential in this series and offers you another contract, because self-publishing is so much more work for the author and there isn’t an advance payment to live on while writing it. I’ll certainly be plugging it to everyone I know!
It was the most awesome news ever that 2 seconds after finishing the book I googled when Wildfire was coming out. Only 60 days yay! But now that seems forever haha. You’re my favorite author, thank you for sharing and for all your hard work!! Also, please come to New York!!! You can stay with me, I have an indoor pool ;). Thanks again, be well!
51 days! 😀 7 weeks 2 days! 😉
Not like the Book Devouring Horde is counting down or anything…….. 🙂
Yeah, but 2 of those weeks I will be working 72 hours a week. I will be so ZZZZZZZZ that I won’t notice the time passing. So for me it is really like 5 weeks and 2 days, which is like about a month, which is no time at all really.
You can rationalize almost anything into sounding better. 🙂
Thank you!
Any chance you can update your Magic 101 with the new types of magic you threw out? Does a barrage mage have a talent similar to Nevada’s mom? I’m curious to know what you wind up calling Catalina’s, it seems like an offshoot of a Manipulator.
Thanks for the explanations. Now I have to go back and reread for a third time with a highlighter. Fourth book in whatever published format, YAAAAYYYYY!!!
It’s difficult for me to believe paranormal/UF reading is on the decline? If so, what’s taking its place (rhetorical)?
Can’t wait to see Nevada go head-to-head with GFH (grandma from hell).
Book sales have been down in most categories.
http://www.bookbusinessmag.com/article/book-sales-start-2016-ebooks-decline/
“Publishers’ book sales for Jan. 2016 were $991.7 million, down 6.7% from $1.06 billion in Jan. 2015. These numbers include sales for all tracked categories (Trade – fiction/non-fiction/religious, PreK-12 Instructional Materials, Higher Education Course Materials, Professional Publishing, and University Presses.)”
Publishers’ book sales are down. But what about book sales overall?
Amazon numbers should tell that tale, but given that writers with the established creds of the authorlords are willing to contemplate self-publishing as a viable alternative to give fans what they want to read, and some writers are making a solid living self-publishing through Amazon without going the traditional route at all, I have to wonder.
White Hot was fantastic. I read it straight through and then a few more times before rereading the whole series together. Fun, realistic personalities (the teenagers are just hilarious), unexpected events, and grounded and gifted Nevada standing up to Mad Rogan using his power and position to protect her. (I love the part where he just builds an army camp around her house because he’s so paranoid.) Anyway, the book was so creative, fun, and well written. Thanks!
Thank you! Thank you! (genuflecting) We are not worthy!
Dude (nodding head vigorously)…
Waiiit…. paranormal/UF is in the decline? What? Why? When? How?
I mean I read tons of stuff but but but…
Don’t tell me it’s because of the flood of it in the Kindle market that’s mostly sub-par schlock that came out of horribly written fanfiction?
*sighs*
I agree Sarah. Trying to wade through the massive amounts of garbage fiction in Kindle to discover worthy material has become a horrible, torturous experience for me. I used to bemoan the lengthy publishing gaps and scant offerings of the “traditional” hard print book companies. But in retrospect it was so much better because they filtered out the crap authors during consideration and also provided quality editing before publishing. *woeful sigh*
It’s because publishing is fickle and goes in waves. Everyone gets excited about a particular trend, the publishers throw money and contracts at anything hitting the trend, then the market becomes oversaturated and cools. For a while we had a UF/PNR wave; while there was romantic YA trend, fueled by Twilight; then dystopian YA, fueled by Hunger Games; then the UF/PNR stopped selling like hot cakes because people got tired of it and looked for something new, and we had a billionaire trend and a biker trend. Established series are not affected by this as much, but starting a new one in a down-turning market is a gamble. 🙂
I have to say I’ve discovered several authors on KU that I would normally not hv tried if they were in the $8 range and believe the to be just as talented as some of my favorite authors. Some, not so much. A lot of the really popular UF authors hv gotten up into the $10 – $14 dollar range, so I offset this with less expensive authors. I’m just thankful IA is still reasonable
Thanks for the answers, looking forward to Wildfire. Great series – would you make more money by self-publishing future books?
Ilona has broke down self publishing vs traditional on the blog. One can make more money per book but has to deal we the financial side and paying taxes. She mentioned traditional publications have perks edits, promotional, book tour etc. I’d suggest searching this blog… She breaks it down great.
I read that. I believe she also said the sales for the Innkeeper books outsold everything else at that point. I know there are upfront costs like editing, but didn’t know if the actual return would outweigh that for HL.
Thank you for your answers (especially for taking time to answer while tired) T-T !!
I love many things about this series, but what I love most is that there is a “Beast Master” aka Cornelius and he even has ferrets!! I loved that movie!! Well played!!
Me too. I hope for a Cornelius spin off- tragic handsome hero with tiny daughter and a dobie named bunny, how could they go wrong?
I am hoping for some Cornelius spin off too. I would like more of the teenagers as they grow up.
Exactly. I had a Dobie, Nycademus, and miss him every day. So, I’m totally on board the Cornelius train. Now if they would just add in a Ragdoll cat then I’d be a fan forever! 🙂
Have you ever tried the original books?
Yes, I’ve read all the books they’ve written. 🙂
Thank you for the answers and for White Hot who was just fantastic and that I finished in four hours before rereading it.
And I am also glad it was delayed (now that I have it) because I have so much questions and the next book is in two months. I would have probably lost my sanity if I had to wait a year.
Thank you so much.
Today – the SBTB business update survey of what sub genres that readers are reading listed paranormal as number three and fantasy romance as four. As a very longtime reader and lover of paranormal romance, UF, Sci-if romance and all things in between this made sense. It was my mom who hooked me on sci-if and there was always some romantic elements in those books. It drives me nuts when publishers say it’s going out of style. One reason I love e-books is now with the self publishing option authors can now continue to write some stories they love when they are told there is no market for it.. I have all your books and your books in audio and ebooks (including the novellas – love silver shark!) and a few in paperback. Also your comment on about some Jack Campbell audiobooks a couple of years ago on your blog – turned me on to his books. So please keep writing and sharing what you love read.
Lov
Such benevolent Author Lords to apologize to their fans for the long wait for White Hot to be published.
I have a glorious book hangover – but it’s Sunday, there’s no football, and it looks like it might rain later, so I’ll take a nap.
You made it absolutely-without-a-doubt worth every minute of the wait for this book, too! As usual, your work is superb and my family thinks I’m nutz as I react out loud as I read. It feels like you’re right there in the book and not sitting in your living room reading. Amazing!
❤️❤️
Hmmmm, are Catalina and Arabella by chance, in any way possible, even a tinsy-winsy bit modeled after your child-units, siblings 1 and 2?
I find it interesting the use of Spanish names for the Baylor siblings, Catalina, Arabella, Nevada. Probably mentioned, but I forget.
Having read some of the AL’s bios, I also wonder if Troy is a little or a lot of Gordon.
Connor Rogan’s mom is a Basque from Spain (imported by Connor’s dad for her magic), but I can’t see any connection there – Tremayne is a name from Cornwall, England, but we don’t have any clue beyond grandparents, and not all of them.
I seem to recall a snippet about “Sergeant Teddy” online. Was that scene cut or is it from Wildfire?
Thanks again for such a wonderful series!
I wondered the same until I got the paperback of WH. Sgt Teddy scene is in the sneak peek for WF (yay!).
I agree with all the posts…..thank you very much. Please rest before the next go around next month. We don’t want you burning out (sorry…..re-reading Burn for Me).
Not much longer for the BDH goes into raptures of happiness with Wildfire and another long spoiler comment page. Yay!
Thank you so much for writing. I love your books. Would you think about coming to New York for your tour of WildFire. And thanks for the explanation can hardly wait counting the days.
I love the books. Can’t wait for more. I was wondering if you are or have created a full house/family tree/ magical ability flow chart. I would love to see a full layout of all of the families how they connect and what they are all possible of.
Since uf is in decline, have you thought about a lit-rpg series?
thanks for your books, I love your writing!
Thank you for making my day brighter. I can escape with Nevada and Rogan on demand and enjoy the ride. This is a rich world that you are creating and I look forward to more stories about it.
Thank you, thank you — oh yay! not left hanging. This world is fabulous, and I am so glad you wrote it. He is hoping the sales are astronomical.
I Love this series. Paranormal an u/f may be down in sales generally, but your books are always great stories with nice character development, conflict and feeling. The plot moves, and they’re never repetitive like so much in the genre has become. They are always good. If you write more in this series, full novel or short stories I will by them self published or otherwise.
Oh!! I love you guys… thank you very much for answering and for not leaving us hanging. Great work!!
Just wanted to say Thank you! You and Gordon are amongst my favourite authors! We really appreciate the worlds you create and the effort you put in to interacting with your fans 🙂
You both are awesome!!! Thank you for writing the books and stories that you do. You make my life as a reader a pleasure. For readers of the urban fantasy we will still be purchasing your and their books. Editors don’t always seem to understand us the fans or what we have on our shelves, eBooks. I have purchased all eBooks, and audiobooks. Look forward to reading each of the series. I do hope the editors are not thinking they need move on from your brilliant story telling. I enjoy all the books and series. I am greedy and want more.
Thank you
Loved White Hot. Was looking for a gal to outpace Kate Daniels and looks like I found her. August, you say? At least I will have marked all the exams by then.
Thanks for your answers – so helpful. I’m still hung up on levitating the car, though. Sure there are people in it, and we know Rogan’s power won’t work on people. But we also know his control is off the charts because he can shave thin pieces off a chopstick and arrange them beautifully without breaking a sweat. Why couldn’t he, say, throw the undercarriage into the air thereby lifting the whole car and any biological contents? There’s nothing about people being nearby that prevents his power from working. We obsessive nerds want to understand!
Is it possible that when Rogan moves the nonbiological material it would slices through or compresses the biological material. That would not be good for a human body. Rogan can move things but can he move people without harming them?
Should read: it slices through or compresses the biological material. I need to earn to proofread my posts.
I see it more of a case that he generally doesn’t go around making cars jump into the air. This is an instinctive reaction something on the road swerve out of the way or move it out of the way. For instance, See him clipping the curb avoiding the squirrel in “Burn for Me” If he was one of the Duke boys from Hazard county, he might have instinctively tried to jump them. Or if he were an air mage who see up as a very convenient location to move to thing might have been different.
Boomie, one more time: Rogan can’t levitate an object with a human in it without killing the human. This is a feature of the worldbuilding. It exists, because I said so. It is canon. This subject is now closed. 🙂
The canon is the word! Thanks a lot for this clear explanation!
Yes mom. Perfect answer
The law has spoken.
“It exists, because I said so.”
Did you just pull the mommy card? 😛
Nah, just the AuthorLord card.
I know–I KNOW–I should let this go, but what about in “Burn for Me” when Nevada and Penelope were going to hit their garage door to save Grandma Frida? Rogan stopped their car–was that also nudging?
Many thanks, and sorry for pushing for this again…
He did the same thing to them that he did to the tanker truck in White Hot, although he was obviously gentler on her van than the tanker truck. (Not that the van lasted must longer — only two months.)
So stopping something or moving it laterally is not the same as LIFTING. Lifting (levitating) is where people do not survive well. Apparently. According to Mama (Author)Lord’s canon.
He created a soft wall.
Hmm. So if he wanted to kill a bad guy etc. he could just levitate their vehicle.
Or just bounce the guy up and down in the car a lot until his neck was broken on the roof. Like a cartoon bad guy.
I am so glad you will tie up the series no matter what. I like a solid HEA ending to a series. Open-ended drives me bonkers. Thanks for letting us know!
Thank you! I reread Burn for Me, then read White Hot, and now I am rereading White Hot. As always, you guys blow me away with your awesomeness!! I will gleefully devour everything you write (in the Hidden Legacy world or any other) and beg for more. ^_^ Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us – it makes my world a happier place.
Thanks for all the info on this Hidden Legacy series. May i ask a question on Hugh’s book- since it is going to be self published how hard has it been lining up an editor? I think it will be a fun read! You guys are spoiling us this year. Cheers!!!
Loved White Hot! I laughed out loud scarring my kids when Leon did his commentary on the mercenaries being killed. Thank y’all so much for answering questions and always being reliable with good, entertaining books! Rest up and enjoy some down time…hopefully it doesn’t rain to much there!
What sales numbers do you need to achieve? I am trying to help. I bought both the kindle and paperback versions. Does one format count more than the others? Love your work and especially the Hidden Legacy books. For once I am not sharing books as I am telling my friends we each need to buy one.
Good luck, Kathy
I also bought a kindle copy and a signed paperback but that’s because I like both formats. I can’t find the blog post, but I know Ilona has said in the past that we (the reader) should buy the most convenient format for us and not worry about which format is better for bestseller lists. I hope I’m not misremembering what she said! Tell me if I’m wrong, Ilona.
Yes, what Di said below. Thank you for buying our books. Buy them in whatever format makes you happy or if you can’t afford them, borrow them from the library. The only thing we ask is that you don’t pirate. Sales and lists are our problem, not yours. 🙂
So glad to see I’m not the only one who buys them in multiple formats!!
After the ferret heist, Nevade fell asleep in the RV, and then Rogan carried her asleep into his HQ, right?
And when the phrase, teleportation doesnt affect living things, it just meant Nevada was teleported with her shockers intact, right?
shockers are probably not plastic or some other non-organic substance (aren’t they a disgusting eel-like organism?)
Yay, Sgt. Teddy!
I just finished White Hot, and after all that tension and drama, what was my burning question? “What about the bear?”
I’m not sure what that says about me, but I think it says your story detail is effective.
I just finished reading “White Hot” and I have to say “Wow.” It was wonderful, full of plot and action and romance. And humor. I love the way that you describe things. You had me laughing just a short read into the book when you said something to the effect that Nevada slammed the door shut on her train of thought so hard that her brain shook. I don’t remember the exact wording, now, but I had to stop and laugh out loud at that. Thank you for another good book.
Thank you, I love White Hot. My main problem is that it was too short. It’s a mistake you also did in Burn For Me. I understand that Wildfire is basically done and you have other little details (like your own lives and other series) to take care of. But this lack of chapters should be corrected ? Otherwise, thank you for the amazing characters and stories.
I only have the audiobooks so can’t comment on word count, but in the authors’ defence, the books – kd and hl – all seem to me to be of a similar reading length. For example Magic Binds was 13 hours and White Hot was 13.18 hours. There were definitely less chapters, but they were longer in length. Could that be the difference you noticed?
You gave me too much credit ? Greedy creature that I am, I don’t think I’ll be that easy to tame. Perhaps with 30-40 chapters? Tesis lenght probably required to elevate my level of satisfaction 😆
Would somewhere around the length of War and Peace suffice? 1,225 pages? 🙂 The problem is the Authorlords write so well I don’t think even that would satisfy the BDH!
Hmm that we’ll be exactly right, actually ? Let’s start a Change.org campaign! ?
Round it up to 1,500 pages—-that’s a number that satisfies my OCD tendencies… Aww shucks, just go ahead and make it an even 2,000 pages length tome. bwahahaha
I’m good with that!
Dear authors,
Could you please post snipnets of Wildfire every week or something?
(Or once a day if you feel generous)
It doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence is fine. I am dying here. lol
I reread BFM (before rereading WH) and was chilled by the prologue. It takes on a completely different meaning after you know about Kelly Waller’s true intentions. Bravo!!! I eagerly await WF.
Same here! The entire scene with Kelly Waller and Rogan changes when you know that Kelly is just setting him up to be the stooge.
Now that I think about it, I hope her kid is also going to therapy while serving in the military. Knowing your mom sacrificed your future for her own ends will definitely screw with your head.
Thank you!
I’d buy a shopping list if you guys wrote it….. fingers crossed for astronomical sales!
Thank you for the answers 🙂
Thank you for looking after the animals. I watched a movie the other day, I won’t mention the title where the male and female protagonist were fleeing on a horse. They crossed a bridge about to be blown up with the horse running full tilt. The bridge exploded. Afterward, we saw both of them and how they survived by no one mentioned the horse, nor was it seen again.
Stuff like that more and more bothers me for the subtle message it sends. Too many news stories where people imply if not outright say animal lives are somehow innately less important than human lives. Too often humans seem to forget they “just animals” too. So it’s nice to read something where the animals are important.
And I quite enjoyed the book even with its, hem, cover… but seriously this reads more like paranormal romance to me so the cover seems okay.
I can’t imagine that your sales would not be astronomical. I hope there will be good news soon. It is hard to wait foe Wildfire. I want it now….
Well, I accounted for 4 sales, LOL. 3 paperbacks that somehow Amazon shipped me and 1 Kindle.
I gifted the extras to many squees of joy from patrons at library who were otherwise waiting for
the book to come in and were in line to get it…. 🙂 I second the snippet every few days even if its
just a few sentences… like the scene with Zeus, whom I am oh so eagerly waiting to find out about!!
Yes, please. We need more Zeus ? (even if it feels like I am asking for drug 😆 Please a bit of Zeus with a Sgt.Teddy on it ?)
Oh, wow! I didn’t realize you were answering questions. As no good deed goes unpunished, I’ll add mine. 😉
How could Rogan buy the mortgage? I thought Nevada said in WH that she had to approve any sale. Am I misremembering? Is the mortgage R bought not the business mortgage? Enquiring minds (or detail nerds) want to know.
Rogan bought the mortgage on the warehouse. Augustine holds the mortgage on the business.
What Kristi said. Augustine can’t sell Baylor Investigations without Nevada’s agreement.
Why aren’t Nevada and family stuck with being part of House Tremaine? Why does Rogan think they can form their own house–It seems unlikely that the powers that be (Primes and Houses) would allow “rogue” children to go form their own House.
Since James pretty much emancipated himself – and his family with Penelope had no contact with Tremaine, I think Nevada has a good case. And if Rogan, who knows more about Houses than anyone but IA, thinks House Baylor can be formed, I’ll go with that.
I remember what I wanted to ask!
Was the lightning-throwing power the one you asked for suggestions on a few months ago? Seems like that was too recently asked to have made it into this book, but maybe you asked for suggestions further back than I realize.
I don’t entirely buy the telekinesis-can’t-lift-people theory. I can see that, if the magic can only grasp living things imperfectly or not at all, it would be difficult and unsafe. It would take a lot of control or a lot of power. Rogan has both.
Rogan can use a piece of clothing to choke someone. That same type of pressure, applied to the shoes, should lift them into the air. Without control, the person would loose their balance, fall over, and likely get hurt. Catching someone who jumped off a bridge, without damaging them, would be extremely difficult, because of the high velocity and short reaction time.
Rogan can move entire chunks of buildings. He could certainly move a slab of concrete. There doesn’t seem to be any reason why he couldn’t also move a human who was sitting on top of that concrete. Move the slab and the slab moves the person. Not a terribly practical or safe way to fly, but it could be done.
That could be applied to a car as well. Maybe. If Rogan could lift just the car, or just an axle with the car attached, the humans should go with it. If his magic can’t distinguish between the car as a whole and its contents, then it would mess up the passengers.
Making himself fly, with or without the car, might be a bit harder. From the standpoint of Newtonian physics, he’d be using his telekinesis on the earth, moving the earth away from himself. The earth is, however, significantly larger than a single city and probably beyond Rogan’s strength.
There’s a simpler explanation for why Rogan would turn the car rather than make it fly over the kids. In an emergency, people tend to react without thinking. Rogan drives cars every day. Even if Rogan could lift a car with people in it, he knee-jerk reaction would be to swerve. Squirrel!
It is not a theory. It is an irrefutable fact. It is this way because we said so. We are the gods of this universe.
Yea verily I spaketh unto you, the Authorlords have spoken, and thus IT is so!
I love the world building in books. It’s like its own separate character.
I loved this book so much! Thank you for writing such an amazing book. I couldn’t put it down for even a second. I did have a question though. Why didn’t Rogan call her for 2months. Was it just because he was busy looking for the people behind Pierce and he was waiting for a “counterproposal” because those seem like flimsy excuses considering how much he cares about her. Was there some other underlying reason?
She did tell him “No” very firmly yet he did send her the books, letting her get stronger and possibly keeping him in her mind. Like you said, I think he was busy looking for Pierce’s backers, which led to Nevada being flung into his arms.
How sneaky! I just realized one of the answers is from Wildfire. I guess we’ll see the context later this week? By the way, how is Leon’s magic computer-related (as per the FAQs for the HL series in your site)?
If levitating objects with people inside would turn those people to hamburger, Rogan has a very interesting offensive power. I mean, if he ever decided to use it as a weapon, no enemy could come after Rogan in a vehicle ever again. Just a wee bump of levitation and boom! Enemy hamburger.
That would save the enemies’ cars from battle damage too, so Grandma Frida could sell them later. Just a little reupholstering…
So I noticed that the release schedule page is outdated – because a friend and I got into an argument about when Wildfire was releasing. Apparently, Google leads straight to the release schedule page when you search, and she doesn’t stalk your blog like I do. Her argument was, “They’re professionals, they would’ve updated the release schedule page if it wasn’t releasing in August.”
… to which, I pointed out that you were probably swamped. This is mostly FYI.
Meanwhile, I’m marking off the days to Wildfire, and Magic Burns’ Kindle edition is on sale ($5.99 as opposed to the usual $7.99) so I bought that as I wait.
Before anything else I should mention I am something of a bookaholic I devour them in considerable quantities and require at least one a day to maintain mental stability else I get withdrawal symptoms (not pretty) so please publish as quickly as you like. It takes about 3 to 4 hours for me to read a standard size paperback.
First time through a book I mainly pay attention to the story if I like it I will re read it and I tend to pick up more detail on the second go through. Third time through is generally for a series book to make sure I have the plot straight before the next one comes out, its also where I tend to start seeing queries.
So I’ve just completed the third read including the preview of wildfire it reads, Rynda was an empath with a secondary telepathic talent but in Whitehot it reads Rynda is a powerful telekinetic and an empath. Have I missed something or can a person have 3 abilities?
Also are all declared magic users ranked because I don’t recall seeing anything about the level of power the other adult members of the Baylor family have, type of gift but not rank. When you mention registering a new house you talk about testing, and also stated that the ice mage David Howling retested several times. Given the mother and grandmother were both in the armed forces it would seem probable that they have at least been tested but I’ve either missed or you haven’t given a rank for them. If I’ve missed it could you give me the book name and page number so I can look it up.
Thank you
Thank you!
As a military wife, I’ve gotta say the speech by Daniella gave me chills. So, so beautiful and absolutely spot-on. We civilians do not, and cannot, understand what kind of changes a soldier goes through during service. In your writing, you treat those in the military with bald, stark blackness, but also reverence and compassion. War will create demons but with the help of comrades (who are the ONLY ones who understand) and loved ones (who will never understand completely but give love anyway), those demons may be kept from taking over. Thank you so much.
Anyone else finding the wait til Wildfire release excruciating? I think it’s because usually you resign yourself to at least a years wait – so just have to settle down. But with the next realease so close I am maintaining the excitement by just re-reading everything constantly. So much fun. Still thrilled that I got the release at 11pm the night before and managed to read it all through by 3.30 am (and still manage to function at work the next day) and currently on umpteenth re-read. Like many others scheming to have the day off on Wildfire release (although probably busiest month of the year at work) but I CAN DO IT!!
Do we get to see or meet Bern’s and Leon’s mother? Is she still alive? From BFM I thought Rogan parents were no longer living but it turn out his mother is still alive..how about his father? so I am wondering will we get to see more family members of the other Houses. Augustine’s siblings, Rogan’s other cousins from his mother’s side?
I’m re-reading for the third time and here are a couple of questions:
In the opening of WH, why couldn’t Augustine cast an illusion over Nevada in the Amy Madrid interrogation rather than just supply a costume. Could have made her look like a man, taller, etc.
What kind of distance could the Prime egocissor work? It seemed like Rogan had the building locked up pretty well. How many people could she control at once and does it work like a command vs seeing through someone’s eyes and manipulating them?
When the warehouse was attacked by 4 ATVs and a semi, why couldn’t they have started by shelling it (grenade launcher or other explosive ordinance, shooting from a distance? Assuming they were 1 mile away (assuming Rogan bought 2 miles square around them), a grenade launcher effective distance would be just outside of the 1mile outside border)
Can someone without will-based powers withstand Manipulators / Egocissors? Does it matter if someone is Prime or not if they don’t have will-based powers?
Probably because there are ways to see past the illusion, in particular when viewing a recording. 🙂
Dumb question that I saw on re-read: When Nevada needs to contact Bern at 3am she repeatedly texts him to wake him up. Why not call him? I know i’m the old millennial who still communicates with phone calls and not just texts
because she was hiding in the bathroom and if she called him Rogan or Augustine might have heard her and known that she was sending the video to Leonora early
Is the beta-reader Sandra Bullock the actor Sandra Bullock?
I am curious about the state of Texas in your Mage novels. From the comments the characters have made I gather that the map of the USA looks much different in that reality. There was mention of Native American ‘countries’. The USA is mentioned, so it still exists. But what exactly is Texas? Is it a state within the USA, or is it a separate republic. The characters seem to view Houston as the centre of their universe, but that would only make sense if it is the capital of a independent nation. But Rogan seems to have joined the US army, which implies he is a US citizen. Or Houston is some kind of magical centre, but I can’t see that happening, given the demographics of the 19th century.
I realize it is rather silly to worry about this, but whenever I read your books the issue pops up and pulls me out of the story in a way that magical flying people don’t seem to:)
Texas is a state just like ours, but because of the war with Mexico, California and Texas were focal points and became regional centers. They attracted powerful magical families, wealth, and military, and everything that comes with it.
Thank you for the book – I had a lot of fun reading it. Please don’t give up on the series. This world is great!
Why is the conspiracy still a secret? Pierce clearly had help in BFM. Why is Rogan the only person who seems to be searching for the conspirators? I would think other primes, government agencies, and the press would all be hunting. A conspiracy is secret only until does something overt, and the theft of the fragment from Lenora was nothing if not overt.
