It has been one week since the typing ban and my joints and knuckles are one hundred percent better. My fingertips still hurt like all get out. ::sigh:: I tried some experimental typing and ow. Ow.
I am so tired. So tired. We’re at 22K on Diamond Fire and it’s time for the exciting finish. I am zombified. Dictating is a completely different animal then writing. I don’t even know if what we are writing is good or bad anymore. It just needs to die. Finish, finish, finish. Finish. Finish and give the thing to Erika and be done. OMG.
Gordon, looking over my shoulder at the Love Nikki game: Mermaid suit?
Me: Yes, but it costs a ton of diamonds. I would have to spend real money on this game.
Gordon, in a seductive voice: If we finish Diamond Fire today, you can have the mermaid suit.
Finish, finish, finish.
L writes,
“I feel like this is a dumb question but I have to ask in order to prepare my self for for Magic Triumphs, also because I’m trying to be optimistic. I know that everywhere on here says that Kate Daniels will consist of 10 books and Magic Triumphs will be the 10th book. I just want to know if it will be the final book in the series. I honestly need to go into this book knowing if I have say good bye to these characters. No idea if I’ll get an answer or when I’ll get an answer but thank you in advance!!”
We’ve answered this before, but here it is again just in case anyone missed it. Kate and Curran deserve their HEA. They worked very hard for Happily Ever After. However, we are not leaving the world behind. There will still be 2 books in Iron Covenant, which will feature side characters from KD world. There will likely be shorter works, like novellas, or possibly a series with some side characters. It is likely that this will be self-published or, if it will be with a publisher, it will be in the future.
We are exhausted. We are six months into the year. We finished 2 full length books. We have at least 30K on the Sweep of the Blade and Diamond Fire will likely clock at 25K plus. We will have to do a book tour for Magic Triumphs. There is no way out of it. And we still will need to write the first Catalina book. We need a break. So we are going to be careful about planning future releases. 🙂 I can’t promise you that we will write more Kate novels, but I can’t promise you that if inspiration hits, there won’t be a surprise side novella or Curran POV. But the main series arc concludes with Magic Triumphs. You will have closure.
Ok, have to go write Diamond Fire. Finish, finish, finish.

Sending more virtual tea and chocolates for your fingers and for writing inspiration.

I’m glad to hear about improvement in your hands! For an author, this would be HELL. You depend on your hands to make a living, after all. Please rest as long as you need to and snag Gordon or see if one of the kids can stop and type for you for a day. I realize you have contracts to fill and that’s critically important, but take care of yourself, too! =) I know I will be around no matter how long things take! =)
Avril says
Sending you happy thoughts that you will finish today. You deserve a mermaid suit and a break. I love to read anything you are willing to write but make sure to take care of yourself.
danielle omo says
You guys have been so busy and doing so much lately – you definitely deserve a break! As much as I love ALL you’re writing, I hope you’ll take some more time to relax. Thanks so much for all you do!
Maria says
There is going to be a Catalina book???? !!!???? Whoo Hoo!!!! I somehow missed that!!
Hope your fingers and hands heal up well and soon for your sakes. It must be very painful and very annoying!
Take care
Tina in NJ says
As I understand it, and I don’t think I got this first hand, Diamond Fire is a bridge to a Catalina trilogy, which takes place a few years after Diamond Fire. At least, that’s what I think they have planned.
Andrea Smith says
I’m guessing it’s Catalina on the Diamond Fire cover. Which was a little confusing because it’s Nevada and Rogans wedding book. I was happy to see that she had a shirt on???
reeder says
Very happy for a Catalina book!
Wouldn’t it be fun to have a Leon novella or POV at some point in the future? I wonder how he’ll mature.
Thank you authorlords for your dedication. I hope your fingers feel better soon. Please do take a break!
Keera says
Thank you so much for all your hard work. After Diamond Fire and Magic Triumphs tour take a vacation. You guys deserve it. And hope those fingers feel better!
I am planning our Christmas vacation now, since this overseas move back to the U.S. is causing us stress and oddly enough some culture shock. Planning it seems to help de-stress everyone.
Amy Ann says
Yes, please take a few weeks vacation so you can de-stress, heal and recharge. I know it is hard when you run your own business, but you guys have had so much on your plates both professionally and personally–you need a break. If you don’t want to take a full break, then just throttle down some. And not overcommitting on book releases going forward would be a good thing. You’ve been riding yourselves real hard. Sending good thoughts your way.
Ms. Kim says
Yes, yes, yes. Time for fun in the sun (and sand and surf – Florida is calling)
EarlineM says
Moving back IS stressful. You feel slightly out of sinc, but it’s home? It was a long time before I stopped carrying a lot of cash, because I always worried I wouldn’t be able to use my card.. wierd stuff like that. It’s kind of cool to see home with a new perspective though.
trailing wife says
since this overseas move back to the U.S. is causing us stress and oddly enough some culture shock.
That’s normal, actually — and the better one adjusts to being an expat, the more disconcerting the return home. Shame on your HR people for not preparing you. The expat experience changes one’s outlook, and while one was away all sorts of small and large cultural changes happened. The past really is another country! My adventure was some time ago, but when we came back everyone had a cell phone, Sex In the City and Friends had made used clothes and coffee shops chic, and I was the mother of two schoolgirls instead of one baby.
The answer is to look at your location as just another new country, exploring it and discovering its possibilities just like you did the exotic places you lived in “out there”. Be open to meeting others who have lived elsewhere, they’ll understand what you are going through in a way that your family and old friends can’t.
Dear Authorlords, you have spoilt us dreadfully by giving us so many wonderful books over the past two years or so, and we are grateful. But please don’t destroy your health doing so — we can reread our collections while awaiting the next opus, truly. We want you to be happy writers, not desperately exhausted ones.
Debi Majo says
I am so happy to hear your hands are better. Every thing you guys write is awesome! I completely trust your judgement on characters, etc. I plan to reread all 9 Kate books before #10 hits the stores.

Give us the book and we will kill it for you, oh great one!!!
(Glad that your hands are getting better and may it continue with the fingers)
Claire M says
So glad your hands are healing!! Even if it’s still a struggle. You’ll get there. I know too well what it’s like to burn out so I really wish you guys strength to get what you need to done, and then have a well deserved break!!
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I will happily wait and take whatever content you give us, in any format, whenever you feel able to do so! If it’s a couple or several years, I will still be mega excited for anything new from you. And in the mean time, very happily continue to reread your extensive backlist!

I hurt for your hands. I don’t know which would be worse, not being able to type or not being able to knit.

Glad to hear your feeling better. You guys are awesome and really should plan a a couple months off, or something, after this crazy year. You some how just keep amping up your work load.
Also Gordon really needs to give men lessons in mental seduction. I might not be single if more men realized game add ons and yarn is better than champaign and fancy dinners. ?? lol

I’m so sorry about your hand pain but very happy to hear there is improvement! I love your work and become giddy over each and every publication. I reread the Kate Daniel series 4 or 5 times (at least) a year. And the Hidden Legacy series. And the Innkeeper Series. You are my #1 Go To author/s (P. Briggs, J. Frost, and A. Bishop). That being said: take your breaks, your vacations, recharge and get well so you can be healthy and inspired for years to come. Thank you for every work you put out! ?

This current mermaid hell event was one of the early hell events in the China server, about 2 years ago I think, so the art doesn’t look that great compared to recent suits.

Wonderful news! So delighted to hear that there are no underlying physical disorders. Thank you for letting your readers know about the hand situation. And congratulations on your successful launch of Iron and Magic. Just finished reading it for the second time.
As to Dragon Speak, I think you’ll find that it is going to open a whole new creative dynamic for you. It is normal to do a lot of self censoring when we type vs when we speak. I would not be at all surprised if you find that your creative subconscious begins to expand with new ideas/creations and new ways of expressing them.
Best wishes to you and your family. Hope you both have a wonderful summer. Thanks for your hard work-the results are apparent in your popularity.

I’m not a gamer but absolutely love the colors in this suit!
Tylikcat says
It’s pretty isn’t it? …I just wish they weren’t so bikini-centric *makes face*. I used to compete in butterfly (I was the only girl on the team in my age class willing to, and, well, pity to waste the shoulders) so I bet I could learn to be efficient with that tail fin.
Michelle says
and the shoulders last FOREVER!
Tylikcat says
Mine prefer regular maintenance? (And they have a list of things they’d prefer I’d avoid, for that matter. I’m totally convinced on the rotator cuff injuries…! Let’s not do that again.) It was kind of fun being, oh, eleven and twelve, and being, oh, maybe 5’9″ and being pretty well into puberty, and having really pronounced arm and shoulder musculature. I’ve learned to embrace it, but when I was young I still struggled with the sense that this was really not my idea of feminine and attractive.
Michelle says
Oh trust me, I so understand, I spent about 5 years with bilateral rotator cuff tendinitis from work related stuff.
I added insult to injury by rowing crew in college after swimming in high school. Thirty years later (OMG, how did that happen) the basic blueprint remains unchanged, even if there’s some difference in the insulation.
I’m pretty happy because all my parts get me around and do the important things, but shopping for formal events (which I just had to do, yuck!) can still take me back to feeling like an insecure high school kid.
Tylikcat says
That sounds awful. I tore up in my rotator cuff in one of the car accidents, and other muscles in my shoulder in another. None of it troubles me now, but I remember how long it took for that rotator cuff to heal all the way.
My father was a linebacker (from Wisconsin). I took after him, so the wide shoulders come with the a huge ribcage (older half sister is a opera singer), the height, etc. So while I suppose I was taken aback as a twelve year old to gain that much visible muscle, the rest of it was sort of it proportion? I just wish I could have words with the boob fairy, which is the biggest source of my clothing issues. The second biggest being that my height and proportions are just wrong for most lines – I find it easier to find clothes that fit when I’m carrying extra weight in many ways.
I haven’t bought formals *for* an event in years, and I think that makes it a lot harder. …and I haven’t attended much above cocktail, really, and a lot of that the academic version thereof. The last formal I bought was in a boutique where the owners new me well enough that once we’d found something with the right fit and cut, they just smiled indulgently as I dropped into crouch stance and did a lotus kick to make sure I could move in the skirt. (I still have that dress, and I love it…) But having the right people, and the lack of pressure makes all the difference. A good relationship with someone who does alterations is also high on the list.
KimberlyR says
You’re amazing! I cannot wait for everything else planned for this year! But also, please take care of yourself. You deserve to not be in pain every day for the rest of your life. Even if you end up publishing at a snail’s pace or taking a real break from writing for quite a while, please do what you need to do for yourself and your health.
Christine Eaton says
I play Love Nikki too!
(Yeah, real money to get that mermaid outfit. Not enough diamonds saved up.)
I’m cheering you on!!!!
Lynn T. says
Okay, Ilona Andrews, I usually say thank you for the post because I do appreciate the posts and all you both do. However today I have to wonder if you actually heard and comprehended/ understood what the doctors told you about your hands. Do you not get the meaning of absolutely no typing for 2 weeks to let your hands heal? For someone so intelligent and highly imaginative
. …
I apologize if I have offended either of you as I thoroughly enjoy your works. You are one of 2 authors I collect ebooks and dead tree books. [Patricia Briggs is the other.] So i want to continue to read your works for many years to come.
If dictating to Gordon is too difficult then use your Dragon software. Yes it is slower because you have to verbalize your thoughts instead of putting directly to script. But the more you use it, the more the software adapts to you and your linguistic quirks. It just takes time and there is a learning curve but it does get faster and more accurate even with the idiotic autocorrect.
I am already on list for Diamond Fire so when it is done, it is done. Sounds to me like the two of you need a real vacation away from work. Take a recorder with you if you are worried about losing inspiration. Then have Gordon transmit home daily on a secure line, so that if recorder has a fatal accident then you do not lose that idea. I suspect kid 1 and 2 will successfully hold down the home and assorted pets while you two take a real vacation which would be whatever the two of you would enjoy. Or take a 3 day weekend once a month. Explore the new town. Explore Texas. Do whatever you both find relaxing and rejuvenating. Good luck.

Ilona/Gordon, you folks are just too darn talented and entertaining. From the blog posts to the amazing books that y’all have written, I can always find something that makes me laugh, cringe, or sigh. I hope you can get a longer break soon. Thank you for all of your efforts. I really love your (& Gordon’s) books:).
PS: Sorry for making Gordon look like an afterthought. I couldn’t figure out how to include him and be grammatically correct.

I really hope your hands get much better and y’all do deserve a break. I’m not worried about future releases, you’ve built my trust and I know I’m going to enjoy anything you put out. And I hope I don’t speak just for myself when I say I’m not going anywhere. Don’t run yourself into the ground. I loved Hugh’s book and am very excited to continue on his journey in his other books. I’m STOKED about the new Legacy novels because that’s my favorite world y’all have built.
That being said- I have my fingered crossed so hard for a spin off with Derek and Julie leaped forward like 5/10 years. Maybe including her dragon school mate and throwing in Roman for a little chaos…and mischevious baby brother Conlan mucking up the works from time to time…so many powered individuals with colorful personalities……fingers crossed so hard. ?

No, no, no, please (1) don’t type again till the recommended period of rest is over (and then slowwwwwly reacclimate) and (2) don’t kill the book (me lurves Hidden Legacy and Innkeeper and the Kate Daniels series and The Edge series, etc, etc)! :'(
Very happy to hear your hands are better, but please follow your doctor’s orders. I’m sure it’s difficult, awkward, and a nuisance, but think of the long-term gain and the health of your hands/fingers/wrists. :0)
I’m with several other folks who’ve suggested taking a break, be it a few days or a week or more, to just rest, relax, recharge, and recalibrate. Maybe try to work it into your schedules going forward that you don’t have so many deadlines (whether contractual or self-imposed) on top of each other, as well as include breathing space in between projects? Health and family should also take priority, as you already know.
Sending you continued healing vibes. 🙂

not trying to be pessimistic but have you ensured your hands if I in your profession and was as successful as you I would

I don’t know if she could insure them as the fingers are not the only way to write. There’s dictation, and on ipads you type on a flat surface, so you don’t have to pound at all. Her writing is more like intellectual property, so copywriting her characters, world, whatever the contract says is probably the closest she could come to insuring her brain.
Joanne says
Still can’t believe how fast you’re churning these out. Rest is super well deserved. Even your NY vacation had work meetings! I say take time off to go do something on your bucket list! Ireland? Iceland?
I know the book series list has Magic Gifts as Derek novella #1 so I assumed a second one was planned! The world is just so well developed that we’re grateful for anything that comes our way in it!

I use dragon regularly for medical transcription. Pain in the a**. Don’t get me wrong, there are good features. But plenty of bad ones. Sooooo looking forward to Diamond Fire later this year ever since the most recent snippet/tease! LOL However, I don’t want you to rush. What I would like is for you to pamper yourself with a spa manicure at least once a month. You deserve it. I luuuuurve the hand and wrist massage they give when you get a manicure. I don’t realize how much tension is in my wrist and hands until their thumb is digging into my palm. Also, 10-20 minutes in the massage chair is a godsend. Having a desk job, I need to release tension in the neck and shoulders from time to time. Ilona, get your self care on!
Tink says
Your fingertips hurt? You mean the tabs or the very tips? I guess I’m a little confused as to what you actually injured. I thought in the Twitch session you said something about splints or something, which I pictured being along the side of the fingers, or I guess where the fingers bend, but I can’t figure out what you could have done to the fingertips. Did the doctor say you press too hard on the keys? Although it still seems like that would travel up the fingers, not hurt the tips.
Sorry, just curious about the actual injury. Joints I can understand. The fingertips are throwing me off.
Michelle says
In addition to the other problems she also had splinter hemorrhages underneath her fingernails, which means the tips of her fingers were so abused they were bleeding under the nailbeds.
Tink says
Huh. I’m trying to figure out how that happens with typing. I’m sitting here paying attention to my fingertips as I type, and I guess I do hit them a bit. One of those things you never really notice until it causes problems, I guess.
sarafina says
The angle at which your fingertips hit the keys may be a factor also.
Olivera says
Omg, after all this you need a month long vacation away from all of us, preferably somewhere away from civilization , internet and cell reception. Good luck and hope for quick finish

Shannon from Texas says
Ilona, when was the last time you and Gordon took a real vacation? Away from home, no kids, no fans, no publishers, etc.? That question is rhetorical, the answer is certainly none of my business. Neither is this, but I’m going to voice my opinion anyway.
I think you ought to plan one. Schedule it, book it, and treat it as unbreakable as any other commitments on the calendar. I know, you’re probably thinking, “When we get x, y, z done, we’ll think about it”, but by then your to-do list will be 8 months longer. Even if it’s just renting a house near the beach in Galveston for a week, and taking a pre-paid phone only the kids know the number for, You Have Earned It!
And keep it going – every 2 novels and a novella should equal 10 days vacation, plus sick leave, comp time, etc. You really do need to treat your workers less like slaves!
Cerulean says
Exactly. Self care is real. It’s important to maintain a balance that means you both can be healthy and happy.
Nancy C. says
I was going to ask the same thing. Y’all really need a vacation. A magical retreat to just unwind and admire wild ponies at a beach or whatever ?
Just some time to revel in not doing anything other than working on your tan.
Michelle Paige says
I agree! That much work deserves at least a weeks vacation time. Shannon is right it has to be planned and unbreakable or you’ll never go. Take it–you deserve a break! Thanks for all the amazing stories! Now go get a Mai Tai 😉
kommiesmom says
I think she’s got a very good idea going here, except perhaps a page count instead of a set number of works? Or equivalents – 2 novellas = 1 novel or 3 short stories = 1 novella? Something you two can live with, anyway.
Every self employed artist needs to remember to pay him/herself a living wage. I think benefits should be included – e.g. insurance, sick leave and a paid vacation. I bet Brandi gets these and you should, too.
No matter how much you love your job, if you never take a break you will eventually regard your beloved career as something to be endured, not enjoyed.
Meg says
I love your books and I have the utmost respect for you both. Please t ake a nice long vacation away from us, writing, moving, water damage, deadlines, all the crap you’ve had to deal with for the last what, two years? Three? We will survive. Please, please take care of yourselves.
lea says
I agree with all of the above. Even if you stay at home and give yourself a week or a few weeks of sleeping late, eating well and doing nothing that involves work, you will be refreshed. Sometimes you get so close to problems that you can’t see a forest because the trees keep getting in your way.
We will wait. There is no one in your reader universe who is going to refuse to buy your books just because you take time off. Turn your comments off so that the rabid complainers can’t get in a shot to savage you from behind and then turn your computer off and breathe a big sigh of freedom.
Jan_nl says
….There is no one in your reader universe who is going to refuse to buy your books just because you take time off……

You are amazing people, not just writing machines! You deserve a lifestyle that is sane, doable and allows for the normal human need to recover and recharge.
While we devour your work and appreciate your generosity to your fans, we care even more about you as people. We want you to be able to enjoy writing and do so from a place of centeredness and strength, not burnout or pain.
We love your work, but we love you more! Take the time you need to keep life vibrant and worth living. We will wait. Let me say that again: we will wait as long as it takes and squee with joy when the next piece comes out. We are blessed that you share your vivid worlds and characters with us. We want you to be just as blessed in the process of making that happen.
Blessings & peace!

We just bought a house too! Staycation so far this summer has been great. It cab be so relaxing just to hang out around home…
Erin Valentine says
I’ve been reading the series since the first book was published, and I’m really picky about series. I usually won’t read them unless they’re finished because I am far too impatient. You are one of five authors to whom I’ll commit the time to read a series as it’s evolving.
That said, and as much as I adore Kate’s books, I’m glad this is a stopping point. Probably because you’ve proven that you are more than capable of developing other worlds and other characters that I love just as much as Kate and Curran. Sometimes a series begins to feel as if it’s being dragged out for sales purposes rather than creative endeavors, and since this series is still as good as it was in the beginning, we’ll never have to see that sad fizzling out. I trust you completely to write an amazing resting place for this story and still give us glimpses of the characters in the future.

My takeaway from this… Catalina book?? Yayyyy!!! I’m so excited for all the books! :):):)

Ps, I love how often you update the blog. It’s like a little treat whenever I come visit. Thank you guys for being so awesome and sharing that awesomeness with us!!

Let’s see, Catalina? Isn’t that the island off California where goats are raised?

Humming – 26 miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is waiting for me…

So glad your hands are better. Now keep resting them!! You guys are amazing and churn out so much content. Give yourselves a break. Maybe after your tour for Magic Triumphs schedule some down time. Vacation or even a staycation! Just stay home, do nothing. Rest. Keep yourselves in top form so you can continue to bring us books for many years.
Ps Loved Hugh’s book & so happy it made all the bestseller lists. Yay!
Andrea Smith says
Wow! I’m sure you have broke some kind record with books/words written in a year. On top of moving this year. Superheros!

Trust you about KD series. Glad to hear about side characters. Hope Conlon would be included.
Just reading on all you have done in 2018 is tiring. Away time is definitely needed. Your health and happiness more important than our insatiable reading appetite.

It’s sad to hear that you guys have to deal with asshats on top of everything else that’s going on. I’m a die hard fan of all your series and have read almost all of your books. (I’m checking for any gems that I might have missed). I love Innkeeper the best.
Y’all are right up there with the greatest story tellers of this age, in my opinion. Take your time, take care of yourselves and each other. Family first! Your true fans will patiently wait for you respectfully!

Agreed! You guys are AWESOME, everything you write rocks, and actually you guys are SO fast, some of my authors I’m lucky to get one book every two years I can’t belive people are so insufferably rude as to complain! I’m glad your hands are feeling better, and I hope that you do get a proper vacation ? (and speaking from experience with sport injuries, wait until your doctor/physio gives you the ok, people who think it will be fine and push it too early are the ones that do more (and sometimes permanent) damage)
Love all your stuff!

I’m so glad your poor hands are making progress at least. Would it help when dictating to be able to see the words as they pop up on the screen? Or maybe close your eyes and recline? Random thoughts. Good luck finishing off the book. Sorry you’re in the “die hated thing die” phase. Have a great weekend!

Yes, I confess, I did the happy dance!!

Ilona, glad to hear your fingers are better. I went through chemotherapy this winter and ended up with neuropathy which caused numbness in my fingertips, which made for some interesting keypunch errors when I was preparing tax returns this spring. Time is the cure for that as well, and six months on I’m almost back to 100%. Thank you again for your regular blog posts and all the great novels you and Gordon have written for all of us to enjoy.
Tara says
Considering how busy you guys are, it’s doubtful you’ll see this comment … but it’s a necessity! I’m VERY glad you posted that question/answer. I think sometimes devoted (AKA obsessed) fans of a series need to hear from the author oodles of times that this book is, in fact, the final book. We’re in denial. I’m already grieving in advance like many other readers, but knowing there are other Kate’s world books in the works takes the sting out of it. And you’re right … they absolutely deserve their HEA! Just know please that your fans ADORE Kate’s world, and are hard core loyalists! Even if they aren’t fans of this genre in general, you’ve converted MANY. I’ve read the series again and again, each time a new book comes out actually. And every time I get something new out of it. You guys are the best! Seriously. And very happy your hands are better – lots of love and we’ll wishes go your way, all the time!!! XOXOXO
Tara says
Math lesson, 7 does not equal 14. The doc said 2 weeks. Stick to the 2 weeks you difficult patient you! In fact get an extension and take a vacation. And NO TYPING!
Also: Oh my holy crap 5 full length books (rewrite of Kate 10) and a novella?!?!? Knock it off you two! I sincerely don’t want you to suffer burnout – purely altruistic reasons…

Love your books. Love KD and Curran. I’m hoping to read more about Derek and Julia. I’d love a story about Roman. Is there a short about Barbaras and Chris? I couldn’t believe I got so wrapped up in Hugh’s story; I shouldn’t have be surprised, you character rock. You develop characters so well I feel as though I know them. I love the I’D series so much that I chose book 1 for my book club. None of the ladies read these kinds of books so I’m hoping to get them hooked.
Vetita says
I hope to read about Derek and Julia too.
Ms. Kim says
On the radio, host and guest were talking how they think through their fingers as they’re, in one case playing the banjo, and in the other case, writing. It gave me a better appreciation now of your difficulty in dictating what you want to write. Hope you get better soon, but please don’t push it.
Christina says
I’m glad to hear your hands are healing. Sorry you’re still having pain when you type.
Can’t wait to read Diamond Fire and Magic Triumphs. Everything you guys write is awesome so I’m sure Diamond Fire will be too. Iron Convenant is amazing!! Can’t wait to read the other two books in that series.
Sounds like you need a vacation. Hope you guys can take some time off to relax. You both deserve it.
Rena says
I agree with those who posted that you need to take a vacation. Maybe it will have to wait till after your book tour, but take a couple of weeks and go to the beach, the mountains, or wherever you can R&R best.
You gifted us with 3 books last year, there will be 3 this year and already Maud’s story for next year. Many authors only put out 1 book a year. The extra from you is very appreciated but I, and I assume my fellow posters here, would much rather you take care of yourself than to burn out.
Mimi says
The mermaid dress is delightful and confirms my long held suspicion that deep inside you, Ilona, is a frustrated couturier. In my dream world there would be a book or website with detailed illustrations of all the various gowns mentioned in the books, especially those Sophie wore in Steele’s Edge!
And am I the only one ironically amused by the fact that poor the aurthor lord’s hands took a serious turn for the worse while writing a book about a man with incredible healing powers?
In lieu of a Hugh to make evrything better I echo many others, take some time and go somewhere where all you need to do is relax and perhaps have several of those charming drinks with little umbrellas!
Susan says
“The FIRST Catalina book.” O joy!
Cheyanne says
Becuz of health issues with hands I use dragon too. What helped me is learning to visualize thru meditation. Then I visualize writing in layers. I’ll do background etc details. Then character and small action. Motivation feelings another layer. Dialogue. Print it all out. Color code paper. Sit edit merge then go back andbdictate order.. that get sent to type and merge. Back to edit by hand. Now dictate entire section by reading.. new color paper to typist. Edit blah blah. Slow but works with practice.
Annemarie says
I haven’t read all the comments yet, but this is just pushing to be said (I’m going to nag – like nag nag nag 😉 ): the doctor said 2 ! weeks no typing, so please, please rest your fingers!
Yes, relaxing is something hard to do, when you’re used to be the one doing it all, but I had to learn a similar lesson 2 years ago after a sports-accident and a broken shoulder (+ right body side & left leg were completely bruised badly) and I wasn’t able to even go to the toilet by myself for 2 months (embarrassing). I’m still not 100% because I overdid it as soon as I was able to move again.
Yes, I’m one of those insatiable readers, but have the patience – if necessary years – as long as I know in the future there is a book calling my name where I can get loose in a world created by some fantastic authors and I don’t care if it is KD or HL or whatever you like to write about.
So take this nagging together with those from your other fans, relax and book a vacation.
sarafina says

Tiff says
It’s great that your hands are improving, they need a good long break! The BDH will devour anything you make and demand more, but will survive perfectly well on a more manageable diet. You guys have been crazy bookmachines this year, I hope you can bring yourself to have a good rest.
Soniya Kaur says
Lots of love to you from London. Hope your hands get better soon. I have been reading your Kate Daniels series since the first and and I absolutely love your work. I tried to get a Netgalley for Magic triumphs and unfortunately didn’t get it. I did want to ask though, with Magic Triumphs being the last book in the series, would you release a box set of the series. I would really like to buy a box set and get it signed by you guys and keep it with my other all time, will love this piece of art for the rest of my life, important part of my life collection. Do you think this is a possibility?
sarafina says
That is probably a publisher decision ($$$, you know). If a LOT of letters in favor went to the publisher (in a co-ordinated or unco-orinated push) it might help. I read another author (Seanan McGuire) where we are trying to get her short stories collected and published. I don’t know if contacting Erica Tang, Anne Soward or someone else would be helpful.
I don’t know if Subterranean Press does projects this big. I think they have published all the Harry Dresden books, but individually, not as a set.
I know I would buy such a product. Paper and audio. Maybe Ilona and Gordon could sign special (because there are 10+ books) book plates to be added.
Monica Martin says
You need to do what your supposed to and NOT type lol. Of course it hurt! Doc didnt tell you not to do it just because. I know its hard becasue thats just what you do and doing the voice thing is way weird especially when it doesnt cooperate. Be a good girl! 🙂 Kate and Curran totally deserve their HEA. They fought like hell for it! I’m ok with it being the end because I know they get their ending. 🙂 I’d be totally stoked with more of course but you guys have worked so hard. I’m good with whatever you wanna put out or take a break on. XO.
Angel says
I’m so glad you are feeling some improvement to your hands!

Ok, I didn’t read the other comments. I am good with the end of the Kate series. Am I happy ? no. Am I resolved? Yes. I understand why and I am able to understand. Thank you, as always , for your consideration and let’s enjoy the future.
Tery Gohsman says
Have you tried soaking your hands in very warm epsom salts water. May not help them heal faster but should alleviate the pain.
Patricia Schlorke says
You two are overachievers. I agree with everyone about taking a very nice and long vacation. Even if it’s at home take a vacation. No writing/dictation, no looking at emails (Brandi should take over), no nothing. Hibernate and forget the world exists.
I don’t think 2 weeks are over that your doctor told you to take off for not using your hands, Ilona. Now I see where Kate gets her stubbornness with Doolittle from…. 🙂
LauraR says
I’m glad to hear your hands are improving. Has this impacted your knitting? I hope not, since it is a good source of relaxing and recharging for you.
Just finished Iron and Magic yesterday and am totally amazed at how you were able to rehabilitate Hugh. Thanks for the great stories and take care of yourselves!
Debie says
Wow, have just read all the comments and agree with them all. You two are amazing and deserve a good long break, with or without the kids. Take time for your selves, we will still be here. If you ever do a book tour outside the US I hope you visit Australia and the west coast.
Frances says
Debie, if they visit Australia and come to Brisbane but not Perth, please fly over ( its only 5 hours!). You are welcome to stay in our spare room and we will go to the Ilona Andrews event together, trundling our suitcases of books to be signed. I keep hoping Supernova brings them over as guests ( Patricia Briggs came to Gold Coast Supernova last year so there is hope).
Jessica says
Omg, I started playing the Love Nikki game because if your previous post. It is oddly satisfying and addictive. So thanks for that! Hope your hands feel better soon. I love everything you’ve ever written, and will gladly wait however long it takes for more.
Susan says
Your books have gotten me through a major health issue and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please rest the hands , the body and the soul and continue to write those wonderful stories.
rcarey says
Ilona I’m so happy to hear the wonderful news about your hands. I hope that they/you are healing nicely. Can you say “I need a timeout”? Please take a break for as long as you can afford to as I know your writing is your “bread and butter”.
I’m not going anywhere (God willing) and can wait for whatever Ilona Andrews bring to the table in the future. Please relax as soon as you can and recover.
I so agree with your “Kate and Curran deserve their HEA” comment – they definitely do. I’m so excited about the release of “Magic Triumphs” next month. I haven’t read any of the snippets posted for “Magic Triumphs” (not because I didn’t want to but I want to be surprised when I receive my preordered copy – sigh. I am currently re-reading the series again as I can’t seem to get enough of the world of Kate and Curran as well the other characters in their realm. I seem to re-read this series at least once a year. I’m almost finished with “Magic Slays” and will begin “Gunmetal Magic” tonight. Please know that I love all of your works but my heart has always belonged to the world of Kate and Curran.
On that note take care of YOU. xoxo
Katrina says
Take care! And hopefully you get to enjoy the mermaid suit. 🙂
Cat Kimbriel says
Very glad to hear that your hands are improving, and yes, I find talking the book out to be a very different animal, too. Sympathies.
(Gordon, you seducer, you. . . .)
Deep breaths and a good break in the schedule for you guys, after a few of these are out the door! Or so I hope. Thank you for all the wonderful stories.
WS says
No experimental typing! Respect the ban! You do not want to end up hurting yourself more and be given an even longer ban.
And, yes, make sure you guys plan a real vacation for yourselves. I realize this is a business and continued promotion and exposure is part of that, but don’t destroy your hands, your fingers, and your overall health in the process.
Vanessa says
Kapow…whip cracking… As much as I love your books, I don’t want you to burn out. I just finished Iron and Magic. It took me awhile to get myself to read it because I hadn’t forgiven him for his role in torturing Kate and Aunt Beas death.
You did a masterful job in making me root for him. I eagerly look forward to future books.
Carol says
I agree completely! Recovery deserves time.
I also had a similar experience with Iron and Magic! I am … not surprised … wowed … that’s it! Wowed at the realistic transformation that Hugh went through. I don’t think it would have been possible with anyone other than Alara. He still has the roughness but more of the compassion that he demonstrated with Renee is coming out. Great work developing a complex characters!
Chris says
Here’s a plan, ALs…Have someone stock the house with goodies; put the word out that one of the kids will be house-sitting for a couple of weeks, so, neighbors, don’t worry about any noise you hear or lights you see; Make a big show of driving off, then sneak back home, and vege out by your gorgeous pool in your great home and do nothing but what you want. Answer the door only for goodie deliveries. Cheers! ?
Susan Linch Ravan says
Please rest your hands at least for two weeks! No relapses. A vacation is a great idea. All work and no play is not a good thing.
Judy says
Kill the book! Then, ahhhh rest. And mermaid suits. And more not typing.
Respectfully appropriate supportive hugs.
wont says
I’ve known Kate 10 was the last for a long time. I still hate reading that. However, I worry for your health. I’m glad to hear about the hand improvement. So, at least you know that remedy will work. Between you and Gordon, I’m sure you will finish your current projects. I agree you need a break, and a real vacation. I hope you get both very soon.
We love your work, but burnout is too real. Please pull back. Take care of yourselves.
Hugs.
Anna Strait says
I am just curious to know if the doc thought you could get any help from a parrafin wax bath. I have Rheumatoid Disease and when my hands act up, parrafin wax dips really help.
I also wear compression gloves to help with swelling and knuckle aches.
Cheyanne says
I do both of these things and they really help. Get your bath with a lot so all you need to do is plug in. Compression gloves are $8.95 from Amazon. Also they have a muscle rub oil from weleda and mix it with drops of CBD oil before gloves helps too. PS that would be LID.
Ilona says
When it was really bad, icing hands helped.
Judy B says
I have to ice my heels,,, and I agree, it really helps. I have one of those wrap around thingies that you keep in the freezer, and Velcro around the back of the heels,,, I’m betting the drugstore probably has one for hands as well.
Gloria Springfield says
Just finished Iron and Magic and it did not disappoint.? only you guys cod makee like a bad guy. I know you said you might have more stories in the Kate Daniels world, will you have anymore with Julie and Derick or Andrea and Raphael?
Njb says
I agree with all the comments so far, most importantly that 7 does not equal 14. Don’t rush it despite the frustrations, please. And you need to build vacations into your schedule! Real ones of at least a week. (nagging from fans , who knew?)
Several authors I follow are talking about burnout or health issues from their workload and needing to make real changes to their schedules. And not one of them has your output either. So do not feel the slightest bit guilty in doing whatever you need to for yourselves. We will still be out here waiting for your next gem. And rereading our favorites while we wait! Thanks for your blog, by the way. So nice of you to take the time to keep the fans updated.

So so glad that your hands are doing better! I can’t imagine how hard it must be to dictate instead of type, so I really feel for you. I’m sad to leave Kate, but as a devoted fan, I’ll honestly read whatever you write. I’m convinced that even your grocery list must be a great read. ? Needless to say, I’ll be patiently waiting to gobble up whatever I can get. Thank you for all you do!
Kellie says
…and Iron and Magic was awesome! I wasn’t sure I could see Hugh as a hero, but it was silly of me to worry. Just loved it!
Marianne says
Just a note of thanks for all of your hard work that results in magic for your readers! This is your business, and as such you know it better and it is really none of mine. That said … I can’t help but throw my hat in with your other devoted and concerned fans and say I hope you follow doctor’s orders Ilona and rest your hands as prescribed, and I hope you both take some time off as soon as you are able. You have had a lot happening on the home front as well as business wise, more than enough to drive a sane person a bit crazy. I love, love, love all your works, and I can wait as long as it takes for your next book, novella, whatever. I hope that you are able to create a schedule that works well for you, and doesn’t force your health (and or sanity) to suffer as a result of it.
Thank you once again for all the many hours of tremendous enjoyment you have brought me with your creativity, talent, hard work, sense of humor, sarcasm, sense of morality, romance, and wit. You two are incredibly gifted, make a fiercely talented writing team, and are incredibly generous with your fans. I hope that all that good karma returns to you a hundredfold! ?

++1 to what Marianne so eloquently said.
Marianne has given a comprehensive and accurate list of qualities that your writing shows but I would add two more: maturity and wisdom. I could give many examples where your main protagonists have modelled mature behaviour/ wise reaction to a challenge that I would hope the young people in my life would follow if faced with a similar situation. I’ll content myself with one example: in “Wildfire” you avoided the usual plot device of using “ the big misunderstanding” to separate Nevada and Connor and actually had your characters have an argument (Nevada and Connor) or a conversation (Nevada and Rynda) to clear the air.
I also admire your decision to complete the Kate vs Roland story arc at book 10. Kate and Curran ( and Andrea and Raphael and George and Eduardo) have worked hard for, and earned, their HEAs.
I am hoping inspiration strikes you and you choose to revisit the world of Kate Daniels. Ascanio is maturing into an interesting young man so perhaps one day there’ll be another April Fool’s day joke which morphs into a novella. I, like so many others, am gobsmacked at your skill in writing the perfect woman (Elara) to complement, match and manage Hugh. I’d love to read the book where Ascanio meets his romantic fate.
I hope that you hands and arms continue to improve. Thankyou again for sharing the gift of your writing with us.

Okay. We all have favorite characters..favorite books.
But. You are two of my favorite authors.
Listen when your body says “Enough for awhile” .
Let your characters loose. .They will not die as you rest.
In fact, They may indeed be up to more mischief.
Breathe deeply. Love wisely. Sleep and Wake smiling.
Your characters and your readers have your backs.

Much love to you, glad you’re feeling a bit better! Saving I&M for vacation reading, it’s killing me but future me will be so happy ?

Who knew leaning back and putting your feet up while talking out loud would be so very hard to learn? Kinda like books on audio backwards.
But, a helluva lot easier on the hands and fingers.?
Take good care.

You had Gordon where you wanted him and you didn’t negotiate for a cook, a maid and the best yarn. For shame! 🙂 Please don’t hurt yourself any further on our account. Yes once these ones are done you both deserve a long rest.
Sleepy says
Glad you are feeling better!!
Take some rest, we can wait 🙂

So glad your hands are better than before. I can say that gloves with or without parrafin baths help, but time and rest help most – without these two the others are at most temporary fixes.
By all means kill the book already!
Know that I (and suspect I am not alone in the BDH) love your books and am delighted to read whatever and whenever you write, and have No Problem at all re-reading and re-reading…. in the interim.
Wishing you both a good weekend, a finished product, and time to yourselves!
Rest is good!

Catalina book??? I must have missed hearing about this before. Please share with an eager fan. Can you back of the book kind of blurb?

We have the same humour, taste in characters, games, and now apps. I wake up and play that game. I spent 180 diamond today to get those mermaid dresses. I’m trying to pace myself. I hope your hands are doing better! Don’t destroy the phalanges!!
AngelMercury says
Nikki will steal all your money if you’re not careful! All suits come back with the very specific exception of the ranking suits (Eng vers. got 3 before people campaigned heavily against ranked events) so you can always craft it later. It will still cost diamonds but you can save up or spend as you want and not have to pay for all the suits between you and the mermaid. Of course it’s hard to argue against ‘But I want it now~!’ 😉
I’m glad Kate and Curran are getting their HEA. They do deserve it, and there are so many other wonderful characters in the Kate world that it would be great to see more of. Rest up!

I admire your work ethic. You have done amazing work. And an amazing amount of work. The majority appreciates you and knows that you produce a ton of amazing gifts to us. And this year has been A LOT. Please take time for you to heal and then for you to live and enjoy life. We are here for support!

Just take it slow and easy. Finish up what you doing if you have too but then take a break and seriously rest those fingers of yours. PLEASE, do not try and rush back into typing. You have to put your health first. I am talking from experence here. more often then I like to remember I had to put my health second to make ends meet, the result, I am 55 and am living on disability and have been now for 7 years and am only making ends meet because I am getting both VA & Social Security. You are a talented story teller, do don’t risk losing the ability to write down your stories by rushing to get better. Has I wrote last week when we was 1st informed about the typing ban. I am more then willing to wait for I know the result will be you in good health and happy and it will show in your work with an awesome story when you do get better. So take it easy and Gorden, you stay on her and make sure she take care of herself.

Please take a break. Take care of yourselves. It’s no fun reading the books if you were miserable while writing them.
Hope you get better soon!

Admittedly I know less than nothing about cycles in the novel writing world, but looking at your production schedule of the last few years and the overall time span on KD, I’d make my vacation a minimum of a month or three. If you’re laughing hysterically at the idea, that’s fine but I stand by this. At the ten year point the best forward thinking companies now offer a 1-3 month sabbatical for this very reason.
Regardless, love you both for all you do and have done. Hoping you’ll take the time for all the healing and renewal it can bring you; body, spirit, mind and soul.
Kim says
I am genuinely grateful for all of your books, but I would like them to keep coming for a long, long time. Your output over the last few years has been amazing, both quality and quantity. Please take the time you need, both physically and mentally. It’s safe to say you’ll have plenty of us here waiting, whenever you finish the next story.

Glad to read that your fingers and hands are improving. Give yourself more time to heal before starting to type again.
Hope you get that mermaid outfit soon!

Wait, are you using your hands to play lovenikki? I certainly hope not! Glad the rest is beginning to pay off. You can rest now, or rest a lot more later. And how many years have you been typing? Dictating? Did I get the impression you expected a complete transition in one week? I know you guys are ambitious in your work expectations of yourselves, but that seems kind of overly optimistic! Love your books, so please slow down. I selfishly do not want you to get burnout!

I was wondering what type of keyboard you’re using? If you’re using a standard, flat keyboard, maybe you’d better off with an ergonomic one. That might be better for your hands, especially with all the typing you do. And, as far as I’m concerned, you shouldn’t worry about being in a rush to bury yourself in Sweep of the Blade (a sentiment that I’m sure will make me VERY unpopular) even though I really miss it. You’re right about you needing a break and I hope you take one.

I’ve forgotten who shared the OrbiTouch Keyboard idea, but I’m still having a great time imagining you learning to write with this keyboard 🙂 or (was it Caroline describing herself) pacing the floor conducting symphonies as you dictate to the Dragon 🙂

Leanne Ridley says
I’m so glad Ilona’s hands are getting better – what a relief! I’ll add my voice to those urging you both to take a substantive vacation once your immediate contractual obligations are met, where you don’t do ANY authoring and let yourselves be pampered by others, and your only exposure to books is reading good stories written by others 🙂
Colleen says
Remember how good you felt during your last vacation and schedule yourself for another as soon as you kill this book and get past the tour. You guys REALLY deserve it and we care. Burnout would be awful. No one should truly hate their job.

Shout out to Ayryn Hadley, i tripped over her on ‘ When We Were Kings’, i liked the ride >>> then i stumbled upon
‘One More Day’ coffee houses, artists, tattoo parlours, recovering alcoholics & battling cancer; which tumbled me into ‘Flawed’ gamers & gaming & opioids.
I don’t do genres, say i about myself. Louis L’ Amour lead my charge in grade school, Robert Heinlein in high school gordon dickson & georgette heyer & a host of others filled
in blank spaces. G-d bless harlequin for the lean years when the industry was learning Readers; Read. Thanks to NR for showing that writers write. Along with the previous commenters I am awed by the talent, dedication and sheer work the two of you have accomplished this year. Thank you. I hope that you truly comprehend how much your creations mean to so many people.
That said, please take care to not overwork yourselves. Life can so easily get away from us and spin out of control. Schedule that me/us break time and be firm with it.
Now to a silly image that has been bugging me. From your comments I’ve gotten the impression that you type as you’re creating and so the physical movements of inputting to the keyboard have become an integral part of the process. So making a switch to strictly verbal dictation must be really uncomfortable, stressful and driving you a bit batty. 🙂 I keep getting a mental picture of you sitting with your fingers “air typing” in front of you while trying to dictate and being distracted by the difference in the rhythm when the words appear as well as odd transcription errors that happen. Must be strange.
While training a new brain/body habit can take a lot of time and effort it seems as though it would be well worth it to have an alternative method to give your poor hands regular breaks in future.
Thank you both again for all the real pleasure that you give your readers.
Michelle says
I actually imagine writing or typing when dictating certain types of reports. I wrote them out for so many years that the physical motions are part of how they are organized in my head and dictating without the paper/screen leaves me very discombobulated.
Susan says
I pictured the air typing also!

Heh – I was an accountant until I couldn’t sit in a chair any more. I can’t add 2+2 without wiggling my fingers; I need a spreadsheet to double a recipe. How much worse it must be with words!

I am used to there being a year or more between books in a series which is bearable because I read and enjoy many series… have even found a few young adult series I really like. My only problem is my memory… I tend to forget characters and details. Sometimes there are things written that will jog my memory, but I do best when I read a series back to back. Once I catch up though, there’s the wait and time gap between books. Don’t know if there are others with this problem who have suggestions to refresh memory for the best experience with a book… this has happened quite often where I draw a blank on names and what happened and even read an entire book still without a clue which really bothers me. I do find brief reminders/recounts, etc., written in the story help, but I have so many books in my to be read pile that I don’t have time to reread books. I have cut down a little, but still find myself trying another author or series, from time to time. In real life I have trouble with names, but am better with details. Maybe my head is too crowded, but I don’t want to give up any of the established series I love which does include more than one by Ilona Andrews.
Sorry… just looking for help with something that is becoming more and more of a problem! Almost 60 with lots of sleep problems so that doesn’t help. I have seen many comments from people in different posts on this website so believe there may be some good responses from others who read the comments. Finally, someone asking for advice!
I do have ideas that may help with the typing problems besides listening to the doctor! A key… hehe… word is pounding. I know when you are full steam ahead, that things may get intense, fast and hard, but that puts a lot of beating on the fingers! I can understand there may be major adjustments dictating versus typing… a scenario with you using your husband as your personal secretary who you dictate… uh, give dictation to was included! Do not know the dynamics of how you both write together, how each contributes, etc., so not sure how you can both adapt to doing things a bit differently, but even after your hands heal, there do need to be changes so it doesn’t keep happening along with more breaks, time off, rest and maybe deadlines that aren’t so stressful.
A different keyboard that has a comfortable wrist rest and set up in such a way that there is speed without pounding, though that may need to be a habit to break so it doesn’t break you, could do wonders! It is worth searching, going to stores and trying different things to find the perfect match.
I have a job with lots of repetitive motions… when my wrist starts to get twinges, I do things a little differently and that has helped me avoid pain and advanced carpal tunnel. Consider ways to do that with your fingers. Continue to give the speech to text a try… it does take time to adapt to something that different. I know most of my creative process is in my head, not verbal, and feel more comfortable expressing things on paper, typed or written, versus spoken. Things could be proofread, changed, etc., and with time it could become a more comfortable way of doing things, not only in the physical sense, but that may involve time.
In the meantime, finding a keyboard or different way of typing is an option. Right now I have been typing on my iPad which does not involve the same force as a computer keyboard, but I also saw some nice keyboards, even good for gaming along with writing, on Amazon, though stores where you can actually try it out has advantages.
Again I’m sorry, this time since this advice was not solicited unlike mine! LOL!
Anyway, I hope you do find something helpful to make the needed changes so you will be all right physically, emotionally and with every other aspect of your life! Also consider that secretary scenario with your husband! Hahahahaha!

DHA/EPA Fish Oil, 2-4 gms/day. May be good for memory, inflammation, skin/hair quality. DHA is the largest component of myelin which insulates nerves/brain. Quite lovely.
Susan says
Where do you find this? Sounds like something my husband would also benefit using. He actually gets confused along with forgetting, though I keep urging him to see a doctor. Thanks, Michelle!
Michelle says
It’s just concentrated fish oil in a supplement. There is a prescription version but it’s very expensive and probably has no advantages over the highly concentrated over the counter fish oil. You just have to be careful about reading the labels and doing the math.
Google the DHA/EPA, there are a lot of interesting studies out there.
Shannon from Texas says
Susan, please please please, see a neurologist? There are a couple of dozen things that it could be that have easy fixes, but there are 3 or 4 that MUST have early intervention. For Parkinson’s dementia, for example, there are meds that will stop you from losing memory and function, but none that can give it back once it’s gone. I so desperately wish I’d known this before my grandpa lost everything that happened after 1994.
On the “it’s just life” side, do you use a Kindle? I’ve found that, with “denser” books, I type notes all through the book like “story of Roland starts here” that I can view notes, find, and re-read just that part. Literal example, for the Hidden Legacy novels, I put lists of character names, relationships, houses, magic type, etc on the first few words of each book. Easy to “go to beginning”, check the note, go back to reading. And for the last book (so far), I put story date/time and basic scenes of each chapter on the word “chapter” because so much happened in so short a “time” and there was a mystery to solve. Keep trying, you’ll find what works for you! But make that appointment ASAP!
Susan says
I am due for an annual complete physical so I will mention my memory issues, though I know sleep deprivation, stress and other things can also be factors, plus I do read many series! Yes, I do have a kindle, but that is only for certain series… mostly I buy in print and/or have on audio. I have both with the books/series I really love like Ilona Andrews, J.R. Ward, Nalini Singh, Patricia Briggs, Cassandra Clare, Gena Showalter, Robin D. Owens, Karen Marie Moning, Becky Chambers, Iris Johansen, Tess Gerritsen, Lara Adrian, Jeaniene Frost, Kresley Cole, Eileen Wilks and a few more. Maybe I need to take notes like you do that can be reviewed before reading the next book to get more out of it and refresh my memory. With George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series, writing a book would be needed to accomplish that! LOL! Thanks for responding, Shannon!
Shannon from Texas says
You’re welcome. Thanks for the list of authors to try!

+1 I too would love to read that POV, especially since Gordon would be the IA team member writing the Curran POV and Ilona can sit back, offer unsolicited advice and commentary, and when he growls

So realistically I am just happy you do not write like George RR Martin. I am thrilled to see the HEA in this series . I am unsure if my other author will be alive for his series to end . I love y’all. I know it’s the end but realistically you have proved your not a one trick pony. I’ll love whatever you write or dictate. So rest up. Hugs

Have you thought about working with a occupational therapist developing a less damaging way of typing for your fingers? Stopping for a couple of weeks is good for the short term, but you need to work on a long term solution. Much like a singer needs a good voice coach to have a long and successful career, a good OT could help you develop good typing habits so you don’t need to go through this painful grief every couple of years. Wishing you all the best and a quick recovery.

I managed to trip and break both wrists, and I type on a computer all day for work too. I used Dragon Speak and wow, it was a frustrating learning curve in the beginning. Sometimes when I proof-read my own writing, what it thought I said was so far off what I actually said, I was too stunned to remember what I wanted to communicate. You deserve a medal, or better yet a really relaxing vacation, for your persistence with your writing. Thank you for all you do.

That’s quite a plate full of books for one year! Y’all have a kick-butt work ethic, but feel free to slow down so you don’t get burned out :). I think that waiting to plan more books is an obviously wise move :). I hope, someday down the road though to read about Arabella. It just seems like there should be more to the whole Metamorphose story and it can’t be as eliminated from the population as it seems, y’know? Dangerous waters though. If not that, I’d still love to read about Arabella, just because I like her, and she needs an HEA without being beaten down by the world, not that she likely world be, but I don’t know how it works happen. I’m sure you guys could do it though, if anyone could 😀 But not now. Maybe a few years down the road or something

Honestly, I am amazed at the way today’s writers, such as yourselves, manage to turn out so many books in so little time. I’m in my 50’s. I remember when it would be years between books from the same author. I didn’t get newsletters, if they were even available, about what the authors were doing until after the interview became readily available to everyone. So I find it terribly rude when some of your readers start demanding more of your works, right now, this instant! Please, take what time you need to get the story where you want it to be. I understand you have deadlines set by your publisher, but take care of yourselves first. I’ve learned to be patient and wait for a good read.

I think that would drive me insane… and that is still immensely cool. Especially the touchpad version. Gloves?? The possibilities! What about air-typing with gloves that recognize point in space? Hahah… how weird would that be….

Wanted to post a happy positive note of gratitude. I would love to see others start a gratitude frenzy here as well. I stumbled across one of your books in an airport and read it on the flight. Loved it and purchased more. I love your two’s sense of humor, the way the story flows and it is “tight” writing. I am grateful you spent so many hours typing (or dictating) to provide a bit of a “break” for me and others in their daily lives. I am also grateful how you two are honest and real in your blogs. Writing is tough hard work. You are real people with real lives just like the rest of us. I am grateful you have the strength to share those moments – not all do. Thank you for your gift you have given us.

Hi, please take care. If you need to rest your hands then do so. Your fans will wait and severely damage any one who tries to make you feel bad about it.
I have enjoyed your works. I read very quickly and I love that I can re-read your books and enjoy them. I do hope you do some short stories about raising the baby. The parent conferences in school when the little fellow just wanted to play with the school mascot. Which one looses their temper? Or when the baby snags a vampire for a playmate. Or the baby gets kidnapped and the kidnapers beg Kate to take her baby back. Just think in a couple years you could have Kate’s son fall in love with Hugh’s daughter. There are so many possibilities out there. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Hi
Gotta start with – I say go with the virtual KB with the cushy foam ? We need those fingers protected ….
Started with Kate – from the very 1st book – loved her and her world from the beginning. Her and Curran.. What a show.. now HEA time.. (Small boo! strictly selfish I get it but I’ll miss her – but hey I got nine – almost ten great books, right?)
Now I’ve read everything. I’ve got a fund with your name(s) on it. Pre-ordering everyone you put out. ?? Only author I’m currently doing that for.
Iron & Magic , already finished…??? .. Intriguing. I say no more.
2 more to come? ?
So rest up, do a cool vacay…. percolate those imaginations…I’ll be waiting. Be well.
Oh, and thank you?
