    • Me, too! In Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries Series, Carwyn is a perfect example. He was my favorite supporting character. Go figure.

    • Ditto on the category.
      I do like games and puzzles, but have been geeking since 1967. (My first programming course. I was fascinated, but not very good. – We used punch cards and our computer was the latest thing – only the size of a chest freezer. I could probably still think in Fortran with a little time to refresh.)
      I don’t have to fight anyone off my computer these days. Maybe I could finally get better?

        • I wrote a program using punch cards. It broke the machine which took a few days to fix. No one was able to find the error – on paper it was perfect. After that, I was graded on written programs but they didn’t run them. I passed with a very nice score but was encouraged to find a different career path. By the way, I am a water mage.

          • Breaking the machine with my program was my fear — I date back to the end of punch cards, too. My programs always worked beautifully on paper, but I deeply resented the way the material world threw in bugs that needed to be found — a card in the stack backwards or upside down or out of order stopped therunning cold even before searching for the inevitable typos. There was the time I dropped the box…

            The funny thing is that two of my siblings became programming professors after I went in a different direction.

      • Ha! FORTRAN was my first real programming language (okay, my dad started me off on basic, but I soon moved over to what his grad students were using because I liked to play around with their code.) I took it off my resume about a year after I started working in industry, and will semi-randomly claim to have forgotten everything about it if that gets me out of horrible legacy projects. (Though a good friend sort of blackmailed me into helping him decode a molecular simulator written in modular FORTRAN and commented in hebrew a dozen years back… See, this is why forgetting is important!)

          • I’ve mostly never really taken classes? (I’d say this is family background, but there are all kinds of subjects in which I never took a lot of the basic classes. Languages – languages I take the basic classes for, though hopefully as intensives! My education is so fucked.)

  12. I got Aquakinetic. Which definitely works, but I felt like it could have gone a lot of ways? I suppose it might explain the compulsion to throw myself into icy pools while hiking 🙂

    • +1. I don’t understand why I have to choose between board game night or dancing in the rain. I mean, there’s plenty of time for both!

      • I did a re-run flipped the answers that were “tied” and came up with empath… which historical reasons left me both huffy and amused (but also works).

      Since I’d rather have you as an ally than a competitor, perhaps we should talk? And any unattached young relatives? (Especially young women who are into men? I have this nephew… and while I wouldn’t promote arranged marriage*, there’s no harm in quietly arranging for them to meet in a low pressure social environment.)(And if my nephew is horrified, well, all the more amusement for me. <= we're close, but it's that sort of relationship.)

      * …especially after my own experiences. Ugh.

  17. Herbmagos over here! Which explains my literal cabin in the woods! Not much of a gardener, but I prefer my surroundings to be natural plants over the concrete jungle! Lived in an apartment once & spent the entire year longing for greenery & trees!

      • Not so very strange. I’m a Master Gardener, love it, but boy, I killed a whole lot plants until I got good at growing stuff. If you like it, go for it.

      • Same here…. Since I have just spent most of today planting out various baby vegetable plants (but, oddly enough, my home office remains absolutely full of seed trays and baby plants), I have to concede that in my case this is a fit.

        I would like to point out that my apple tree is very healthy and very looked-after!

    • Me too! Which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I totally expected Magister Examplaria or animal mage. I’m a software engineer and animal lover in real life, and I rarely predict anything successfully.

    FYI: there are 17 possible magic types because I wanted there to be as much variety as possible. I did leave out a few magics, mostly because it became too difficult to incorporate many conclusions in the answer choices.

    • I got this also, which initially surprised me, and then I realized that I do this already. I can’t tell you how many people have walked into my home, told me how relaxing and pretty it is, and almost immediately fell asleep on my couch. I know that falling asleep at other people’s homes is not normal, but it happens all the time.

  40. Animal mage. The German Shepherd looking over my shoulder concurs. The cat in my lap has some doubts. The chickadee that will occasionally land on my shoulder at the feeder doesn’t care as long as I keep the feeder filled..

  44. Herbmagos! Fitting since I live in the country. I have a green thumb and start some veggies for our big garden every year. This winter I am experimenting with have a gro-light set up that’s on 12 hrs & off 12 hrs. Got my Christmas cactus to bloom and an amaryllis to re-bloom. 😀

      • No kidding! I changed one or two answers (because some don’t really fit me) and ended up with Wind Mage on one, Empathy on another and Seer (I think it’s called) for another.

        • I might do that…but on thinking about it, it does kind of fit. I don’t really like fighting and I want to make people happy. I just don’t have the patience or talent for things like flower arrangements.

    • I am a herbomagus, which is good because I like my garden. But I do have to say that for several of the questions I really wanted a “Absolutely none of the above!” choice. 😉

    • Exactly! Even with a good idea of the answer possibilities, I couldn’t always predict which would lead to what. Which only halfway annoys me — on the one hand, I always try to do interesting quizzes multiple times until I’ve seen all the answers, and if I can’t manipulate the answers, I can’t do that here. On the other hand, I don’t mind being a water mage ??‍♂️ so much.

  70. Hmmm, I got Elenchus. Truth-teller. I wonder how that goes with lawyer. May explain a few things. As always, these quizzes can be fun. I recently took a quiz that was supposed to predict your age by how you answered some random questions. My responses would have made me age 23-26. It was only off by 4 decades!

  94. Wow. That was a fun quiz. I had to seriously guess at some answers because none of them fit my solution.
    I don’t think I could be as blood thirsty as some of the quiz answers but some were too mellow.
    It makes me want to do it again with different answers just to see how it changes.

    Not that I object to the results, but some of the answers just did not fit right. Wish there had been a “none of the above” on a couple of the answers. Like, the t. v. shows…none of those are my favorites…I don’t watch them, ever. Music was off, as well. Ah well, it was better than some I’ve taken, and empathy isn’t too bad.

    Oddly accurate, people only play with me if I let them use the dictionary and then they take forever to go. For a while in the family it was a joke to see who can come second to me but my brother has vastly improved and we get some proper competition going now. It can get quite intense – but not as bad as monopoly which is banned from our family get togethers in case of death.

    • I got M.E.too, When I first read about the M.E. in the H.L., I thought that was a great description of me. I just took the quiz to see how accurate it was and “bingo!”.
      I thought that the the only song that you could play for a whole trip was hilarious, and could very well explain why driving anywhere here (central Fl.)is so crazily hazardous, if the other drivers got that list and thought that the one song- per-trip was the law.
      But I don’t play any board or card games or video games. I once played shoot the chicken for 4 hours and thought that I had only been on the computer for about 10 minutes. Also, I once beat at chess a very close friend in what seems like 8 moves.The friendship was gone in about 2 seconds! I love jigsaw puzzles, but once I start one, I can’t leave the table until it’s finished. Those things are all like potato chips – you can’t eat just one. I would much rather create something, so I have something to show for my time, go for a walk, spend time with my husband and other friends, or read. We are even dropping Netflix, because we hardly ever watch TV. This blog and a couple of knitting sites are my only social media.
      The older you get, the pickier you get with how you spend your time. The question about how you would spend your last day on earth just keeps getting more and more reverent every day.?

      One of my friends put Rock Lobster on repeat for 8hr road trip to see who’d break first. Her or her passenger. Nope, the phone refused to play it any more after 5ish hours.

    • I got M.E. too. No surprise there since I am a biostatistician. I started to laugh when I read the description. Even when I argue with someone, I use logic to the point the person gives up. 😀

      For the music, there were at least three I could’ve chosen at once. This is why I’m glad to have different play lists on my iPod.

    In real life I suspect I am more a magister exemplar, but there are times the ability to call and direct lightning strikes would be very satisfying.

    • Lawyer here and got magister exemplaria too. And I suppose what I do can be compared to sitting in front of a computer solving puzzles. Ha!
