Give away POST A COMMENT March 1, 2019 by Brandi

Hey Yall,

I’m back, and this time with an exciting & exclusive giveaway! Y’all have probably realized from the title that Ilona Andrews’s has placed me in charge of hosting the giveaway of 5 signedKinsmen Collector edition copies. This is a super awesome event, for obvious reasons. The copies the lucky winners will be receiving are hardcover & have yet to be even unwrapped.

So how do you win? That’s a good question! Here’s how you can qualify for one of these amazing Kinsmen Collector Editions. On this post, leave a comment saying who is your favorite character in the Kinsmen series and why.

This giveaway is open to all readers; 3 copies will be awarded to US residents and 2 copies will go to international readers. Please be sure to tell us what country you are in to be eligible for the international giveaway. Replies to other comments in the thread do not count as entries.

This giveaway will end on Friday, March 8th.

On Friday, I will use a random number generator to select the 5 lucky winners. Like I said, it will be completely random. But to even have a chance of being selected, you have to comment!

Artha snuggling with her copy

Really, y’all should comment. I mean, just look at how cozy Artha looks cuddling up under the blankets with her copy. That could be you! Except you can probably take yours out of the plastic, she can’t because her track record of eating books rather than reading them.

Once the five winners have been selected, I will make a post officially closing the giveaway. If you’re number was drawn, I will personally contact you to give you the good news & retrieve your shipping information.

That’s all you need to know before you enter a chance to win, so on your mark, get set, comment!

Good luck,

Brandi & Artha

Oooh, I’ll play. Meli from Silent Blade. I bought the ebook back when I was discovering the Hidden Legacy series all through that lovely summer when we got White Hot and Wildfire within months of each other. I loved seeing all the little forerunners for the Hidden Legacy world and Meli would fit right in with the Houston Houses.

Meli. Defintely! Cold, smart, played the long game. And eeath by ribbon? Okay, that counts as a unique weapon (outside of being used as a garrote)

    Yay!!! I love give away!!
Meli is my favorite. Her life gets ruined by stupid boy, but she makes a different life and then forgives stupid boy for love.

This is easy. Claire from Silver Shark is my favorite. Silver Shark is so far my most re-read Ilona Andrews story. It has something that picks me up when I“m down. Claire manages to win against overwhelming odds; you just can“t not like her.

    Oh, I“m from Germany.

Claire Shannon is my absolute favorite. She has had such a horrible life and she knows it.
She is not whiney (I would be whiney). She’s not unrealistically Pollyanna either. She’s loyal and dangerous and well-written.

I loved Venturo from Silver Shark. He wasn’t an asshole, just a guy trying to survive within the world and the rules he was given. He somehow managed to maintain his scruples despite the fact that many in his position could do as they pleased.

Claire from Silver Shark is my favorite. Despite such a hard life, she adapted to her new circumstances. She grew into this beautiful and complex heroine. I love this series, they are two books that I can always count on to cheer me up. I’m in the US.

Claire is my favourite. She has spent her entire life in an extremely rigid, oppressive society, but when exposed to a different world that gives her more options in life, instead of closing down in panic, she adapts and then flourishes.

Claire and Meli are both great, but Venturo stole my heart. He was so good to his family and his scruples were intact after being dissed. A hard worker and sooo confident. And as Jack Palance said, “Confidence is sexy.”

  27. Chris Petty says

    March 1, 2019 at 1:33 pm

I like to watch Claire literally and figuratively bloom from a drab creature in dire circumstances to a vibrant, competent person, who allows herself to grow. Not many would after a lifetime of war.

I’m torn between Venturo and Claire from Silver Shark. Venturo because he kind and has principles, and Claire because she is a survivor and is kind. They definitely deserve each other.

Claire Shannon because as hard edged as she is, she has a softer side – then just when everything gets resolved and you think it might turn terribly romantic – she basically says to Venturo, lets go play psyche style…

While I love both heroines, my favorite is Captain Claire Shannon. By whatever name she uses she’s an unforgettable character. Using her wits and determination, she survives a horrible situation, and finds a way to thrive in a totally unfamiliar place & culture. And she remains true to her friends & values. She’s been the most deserving heroine of a happy ending I’ve come across in a long time. (Those others would be Kate & Nevada!)

  122. JoJo says

    March 1, 2019 at 2:28 pm

My favourite character is Claire Shannon. It’s because of this sentence: “Your hair is too bright.” My mum was brought up in Eastern Germany when the Berlin wall was still standing and this is more or less her story, safe for the magic. The houses were grey. They were monitored by their own Courtneys. They were taught these values, that are described in the book perfectly, since childhood and were told that they were winning, until the end. The kindness of telling someone that their hair is standing out too much is something that would have happened there. She struggled a lot after the country reunited. She was never in the Stasi or anything like that.
She was a geologist. But she lost her job, her skills and values weren’t worth anything and then there was this feeling of being overwhelmed. She once told me a story of trying to buy chocolate. Before, there was one
kind of chocolate bar you could get. Now she was in a store, standing in front of a whole wall of different pralines and flavours, my sister was starting to cry and she panicked and fled with her child. She had nightmares about this for years. I think it’s like being overwhelmed by a flower planet all of a sudden. Questioning everything you know and are and restructuring your entire inner world like we can see with Claire’s forest takes so much strength and courage. That makes Claire really amazing, just like my mum. You can’t just be “freed” or escape a drab system, you have to work hard and be incredibly brave to be a free person. First of all, your thoughts have to be free and that’s something not many accomplish.
Also, “waste” is actually a magical word for my grandparents. My grandfather once drank a whole bottle of dish soap, because he thought it was sirup that was going to waste. He got food poisoning. It must have tasted like crap.

I definitely have to go with Meli. I love all the characters but she has always stood out to me. She had her world rocked hard and was embarrassed and shamed but she stayed on her feet and pushed through. She’s incredibly independent which really resonates with me as I’ve been that way all my life. She’s strong and brave and those are traits I’ve always tried hard to have myself through some horrible times. She wows me with her perserverence and ends up being such a bada**!

  246. Kechara says

    March 1, 2019 at 3:23 pm

I think my favourite would be Claire. She has had a difficult upbringing in a very dark and gray environment, yet she has made attachments, developed a conscience and regard for others. She is a good judge of character and knows who to trust, while keeping herself guarded. She shows adaptability, even when exposed to a totally new environment that is a sensory overload. She is strong and intelligent and quite capable. She is willing to risk her life for those she considers people she owes for the care of her mother. At the same time she doesn’t diminish their efforts or belittle those who aren’t as strong I appreciate her protective instincts and problem solving abilities. She doesn’t compromise her values for personal gain and goes toe to toe with those who threaten others.

I liked Meli, she was not treated right by someone who wouldn’t even give her a chance and she stayed true to herself. She didn’t let it make her bitter she just took care of it.

  319. Pang says

Have to give it to Claire. There was so many different aspects to her character. Also it was pretty cool that she basically managed the company when Venturo went MIA to go find her ‘cyber’ version.

  320. Jennifer Worm says

    March 1, 2019 at 4:00 pm

Meli is my favorite character because she is so dynamic; she has been through a lot in her life, but has not let it ruin her. Also, her way of getting back at *ahem* someone is entirely unexpected (at least, it was for me the first time- I loved it!). Her experiences have honed her into a confident, self-assured, talented person of power.

Just for fun, I pick Kosta because he reminds me so much of my 5th grade students when tricked into getting excited about learning science and history. I giggle every time I read it…”You should’ve seen him. He was bouncing about sniffing flowers. His eyes were this big.” She opened her hands wide and held them by her eyes. “It was all, ‘Kosta! Don’t touch that, it will eat you. No, don’t touch that either. Don’t pet that giant monster… Like trying to walk a kitten on a leash.”

Meli, because first she did everything to transform herself into the ideal partner for Celino and after he snubbed her she became a kickass assassin. And she hatched the perfect revenge plot and even though that backfired on her she held out a really long time before she finally forgave him (and herself). (Switzerland)

    Meli for me.
I read Silent Blade years ago and just had to go back and reread whenever I didn’t have anything I felt like reading. I have thousands of books to choose from that I own or from the library. She is why I have read it so many times. She is strong, but still vulnerable.

    I am from the US.

  372. Alex says

    March 1, 2019 at 4:38 pm

Meli is unquestionably my favorite. Her character development was so rich, and seeing her in the many hats that fate forced her to wear made her one of the best developed characters I’ve ever come across. The fact that the story was so short just enforced the skill it took to write such a well rounded, intriguing character. She was nothing like the assassin I expected… and was everything I want from my future dark horses. I especially love the form of her revenge – brutal, effective, and far more poignant than the knife in the dark I was expecting. I wish every writer made characters like Meli – wise beyond the basic solution, with the brains and the imagination to really stick it where it hurts. <3

Even if I don't win, I'm so happy you guys published these stories into a book. And if you ever decide to revisit the Kinsmen Universe, I would love to delve deeper into their world.

Meli is a choice favorite. Why? In the end it was her integrity that stood out. How she withstood all that was thrown at her without compromising her standards. How fiercely she demanded that she be seen as a partner, not someone who would be dependent on anyone else. How much she loved and expected to be loved, despite everything. How she was worth it in every way.

    Claire
held her ground doing her duty in a war she didn’t believe in. She held it together when she cam out of the meld to find her superior officer killing her crew.
Knowing she was in a fight for her life she committed to survival. Yet was willing to jeopardize her escape to help those (apt. Community) who helped her (mother).

I liked her style, her determination & her willingness to go after what she wanted. To know what was herself & what was the circumstances that surrounded her.

MELI is cool but Claire had more in depth development.

I really love Claire! I found that she Had her flaws but she stuck to her code of honor. I think she was very relatable and awesome ?

A curvy, ass-kicking heroine? Yep, it’s Meli ftw! Besides, how many of us gals know the pain of doing everything that’s expected of you and more, only to have it not be enough? So, I love when a story has me mentally shouting, “Kick. His. Ass.” (especially since I’m more of a disappear quietly type in real life).

Thanks for the chance to win a copy! I love this series so it’s difficult to pick one favourite character but if pushed I’d probably have to go for Claire. She’s so strong to deal with everything she went through and still want to help people!

I haven’t read them yet. I was waiting on the Audible version to be released and can’t wait. I would definitely love to have a print copy to read.

I’m going to be different. While I love Claire and Meli, I think my favorite is Deirdre. There’s just something about her willingness to step up that I find awesome. I would love to read another story about her and Lord Nagrad.

It’s a tie between Venturo and Claire for me. Although Mellie is quite awesome as well. I’m from Canada.

I think Claire is my favorite – she grew up on a world, in a community, that did not value love and connection, but she fought to make a life for herself in a brand new place…and was still willing to help others despite putting her own life at risk.
